Working on my 7th digital photo replica, the 3rd for Aztec Transport out of Campbell River, BC. The first two were tri-axle Refers and this one is a tanker that they haul live Salmon in for a client based in Norway. I am testing the lights out that I've installed, with clearance lights and tail lights to be painted yellow and red, the same as the rest of the models. Today I had a short in the trailer and will now have to rip out this set and replace them. Rrrrrr. Still have a fair amount of work as these models are created from the actual digital photos taken of the real truck, scaled to 1/43 size and cut out [as seen in the last photo] and glued on a kit bashed tractor and trailer chassis. The tanker is a chrome tape covered cardboard tube with foam core bulkheads as you can see in the photo of the rear end that I have buried the clearance lights into. I have posted pics of some Western Stars replicated using the same process titled Digital Photo Replicas if you want to see more of this technique. I have a Peterbilt 389 to build after this for a small trucking company out of Guadalupe, CA. and am looking forward to that project.

Dave, you John and Chris are in a Master Model making class of your own. Museum quality work!

Aaron the build looks great! Came across this real cool shot of young Mike Dunn getting the car ready to fire.

I thought rear engine funny cars were the coolest thing at that time. I built this Vega panel wagon in 1972 inspired by Dave Bowman's California Stud.

The year was 1971 and I [the long haired kid] was helping my brother-in-law, Alan Hills and partner Greg Baxter, run their C gas dragster. A 160' Woody Gilmore chassis with a pretty much stock 283 and a Lenco two speed. Photo was taken after an all night thrash to get to bison Dragways that morning were the car ran 10's at 145 mph. The next year we stepped up with a Bob Forzley 170" chassis powered by a bored out 283 with aluminum heads, race cam, Hilborn fuel injection and a semi automatic three speed transmission. We never got this car sorted out and it ran in the 10's at 150 mph. [should have been the low 9's at 170]. These were the Golden Days of drag racing and I was hooked for life.

My Three "California Chargers" .....
Hammerdown replied to Old Coyote's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Great looking builds John, they look like the real thing. One of the classiest paint schemes ever applied to a Quarter Pounder. I always thought wheel pants looked so cool on cars like Hot Tuna, Jade Grenade, Wheeler Dealer, TV Tommy Ivo and this fantastic looking KC car, back in the golden days of drag racing. Thanks for posting your exceptional work. -
No they've never been featured before but thanks for the remarks.
