  1. Hello, I'm currently having a little break from motorsport models, and I'm working on two muscle cars for a magazine article. I have been using Tamiya TS paints, as usual, but there are some annoying flat spots. I've sanded them down until they're smooth but when I spray, I just can't get the paint to be shiny enough. Last night, I sprayed one of the bodies with Zero Pre-Thinned Clearcoat, which I haven't used since I last used Zero paints. It worked well, but needs another coat. Should this stuff give a good effect over Tamiya TS paints? Both of these models have black stripe decals, and I want to clearcoat over these. This morning, I tested the clearcoat over decals from these kits on some scrap plastic I painted with Tamiya TS paint a few months ago as a test. It worked well on black decals, but for some reason, the white stripe decal cracked and crazed all over. My question is: will it be safe for me to clearcoat over these decals or is it likely to cause problems? Jake The black decals worked fine (although they don't look too great in this photo) IMG_0440 by Jake Kilshaw, on Flickr But the white one crazed all over: IMG_0439 by Jake Kilshaw, on Flickr
  2. Thanks for all your kind words I used the Studio 27 photoetch set and Zero paints for the body. The rest was painted with Alclad for metals and Black parts were Vallejo black. Jake
  3. Thanks for all your replies. I have just posted a couple of my finished models in the 'Under Glass' section: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89448 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89441 Jake
  4. Hello, here is another one of my finished models. This model has won a gold in the junior's class at the UK IPMS nationals, and two golds in the senior civilian vehicles classes at regional shows. The Williams-BMW FW24 was used by the famous Williams F1 Team throughout the 2002 Formula One season. The #5 car was driven by Ralf Schumacher, whilst the #6 car was driven by Juan Pablo Montoya. My model represents JP Montoyas car from the 2002 United States Grand Prix, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This was one of the most controversial races in history, with a backfired staged 1-2 finish between the two Ferrari drivers. Williams race wasnt smooth either, because the two drivers collided on lap 2, when Ralf Schumacher collided with Montoya, Montoya finished the race in 4th position. My model took 5 months to build, and I used an aftermarket photo-etch set and decals. To build it as the US GP version, I had to dramatically alter the rear wing, to replicate the low-downforce setup used at the high-speed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Thank you, Jake
  5. Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes, they are. Personally, I've never been a fan of Revell kits, but building this, and the two Revell USA kits I'm doing at the moment has changed my opinion.
  6. Hello, I've just joined this forum, and I wanted to share some of my models with you. I built this at the start of the year and finished it about two months ago. It is Revell's 2009 Audi A4 DTM. I converted this from Timo Schneider's matt black car to Mattias Ekström's very striking Red Bull sponsored car. I wrote an article on this model, which featured in the latest issue of the IPMS(UK) magazine. This has been one of the most fun I've had whilst building a model, and it certainly has the best colour scheme of any model I've built! I am currently having a break from motorsport models and building two Revell kits side-by-side, the 2010 Camaro SS and 2013 Mustang Boss 302. I'll post a WIP of those up on here soon. Thanks, Jake
  7. No, those will be next year. Just normal school exams. Jake
  8. Hey Rich, I've just joined myself, it's a good forum . Which shows are you going to next?
  9. Thanks for all of your replies. Jim, I'll be at Birmingham, and Telford. Are you going to Sutton Coldfield? I'll check out your SiG stand and maybe contact you when I start my 32 Ford. I'll get some models posted on here when I get a minute - but I'm very busy with exams at the moment... Jake
  10. Hi, I've just joined this forum and I'd like to introduce myself... My name is Jake, I'm 15 and live in England. I usually build either 1/20 F1 cars and 1/24 'sportscar' race cars. Whilst on vacation in Florida over Easter, I bought a few Revell kits of two of my favourite muscle cars - 2010 Camaro SS and 2013 Boss 302. I also bought the 1932 Ford 5-window coupe hot rod kit as well. There isn't much interest in American cars on the european forums, so I hope to do a WIP of my Camaro and Mustang which I'm building on here soon. I'm building them at the same time. I am very interested in all kinds of motorsports - F1, MotoGP, NASCAR, DTM, GT3, Endurance, etc. That's all from me now, I'll try and post some progress photos of my Camaro and Mustang in the WIP section soon. Jake
