I've done that with small parts ,,wheels.

They eventually hardened back up by themselves. Couldn't honestly say if a whole body would or not.

Wouldn't hurt to just let it alone for a while and see what happens.

    Thanks Steve.

It's been sitting for about 2 years now.  However I am looking forward to problem solving the situation.

The car is still soaking as I tried to fix it before using resin and super glue which is coming off.  I'm hoping to strip is über clean before attempting a restore.

  2. Hi,

Would any one have advise on how to harden a rubberized resin body that was stupidly soaked in an alcohol bath?

I'm stripping it in SuperClean which doesn't seem to be causing further damage.

Once cleaned of any paint etc... my plan was to freeze it for a few days and then slowly reinforce with strategically placed styrene while filling in any gaps, holes etc with Tamiya white putty.

After I feel that the body looks good, I was going to use a polyurethane based acrylic primer.

Is this a good plan?  Is there anything I am missing, should change or add?

The kit is my beloved Fisher 908 and rather then discard, I've decided to restore it out of respect to Paul Fisher, his work and his craftsmanship.  I'm still very sad over his loss of home and business during the Cali Paradise fires as I can relate going through the same thing in the Cali Woolsey fires.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Hello,

Thank you for the posts as I appreciate all of your thoughts.

I see this has invoked some passionate replies indeed.

One thing's certain, this would be a lot of work wether it be a Pixar's Cars character or a functional vehicle.

Man, there are simply so many kits to build I'm really unsure.

I've a seriously stalled FXX-K in my new workshop of sorts from pre-pandemic just looking at me.

Since I must complete a task before moving on to something else or I feel in limbo, I'll finish that one up and then see what happens.

    Thanks again.

  4. Hi,

I was able to pick up a Badger Billion Air 480-1 for a nice price.

Curious what type of oil it uses?

I've seen SilentAire oil which goes for a premium and will get it baring alternatives.

Hoping synthetic compressor oil would work.

    * Update, went ahead and bought the SilentAire oil for super cheap.

Brian, that little compressor has about the same specs as the kind used by face make up artist.

w/possibly re-branding and packaging,I don't know that for sure.  But it would be working

constantly if you are spraying at near its max output. For good even output a compressor with

a tank is IMO the best way to go. More constant pressure w/out the pulses from the pump.

A regulator lets you dial down the PSI so there is really no problem having way more than you

    will actually use.

Thanks Kurt and you are right.  I really like it's design however will pass on it.

I spoke with Bill Cunningham at length yesterday at the Atlanta ACME show, and saw the XP-87 model up close, as well as some development parts, one of the early vacuum molds, etc. He will be selling repops of his work after he gets it fine-tuned just a little more. Look at the ACME Facebook page for info and updates.

He's currently offering a first-generation Chaparral you might find interesting as well.

Wow thanks Monsignor Bill.  I also enjoy your changing avatar, very cool!!!

  7. I agree wth Stanley, get him what he wants.

I'm a relative beginner, started with a resin kit  and it came out fine.

PS If you are able to offer guidance and help here and there, man I bet he would be super stoked.  When my LHS was around, I would go in now and again and pick there brain as this one guy was a commissioned builder on the side.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe a guy named Bill Cunningham has created a 3D printed one.  I have been following his progress on facebook for months.  I have no idea if he is making it available to the public or not.

Well he did a bang up job on the casting that Bill had linked to.

I did look around on Shapeways and so far no XP-87.  I believe another caster actually did this as well and am trying to find the thread.

Worst thing about that kit is that all the panel lines are very wide and very shallow. They look bad but I can't come up with a way to improve them that doesn't involve filling them in and completely rescribing them. The very idea makes my brain hurt.

Hmm, bummer, we don't like brain pain here :)

    These may do the trick;

  10. Man that diagram looks cool.

I first saw that fuel injection throttle body on Jay Leno and thought it was super cool.

Man did you hear him start it up, wow how cool.  The comments were hilarious, one guy mentioned regretting his high fidelity headphone selection as the firing up of the engine made him jump and spill his coffee.

Such a gem of a car, as are all Vettes actually.  And while I enjoy changing things up and evolution of design and function, the new mid engine design looses the swoopyness of the Vette look.

In fact I thought the Aerovette was more true to form then the new one but I digress.

    At any rate thanks again.
