    Wow, thats definitely some exhaustive and detailed comparison work. I would love to see an update.  Great information though as I have had a few 962 projects on the back burner while gathering parts.

    I do have the LMM Gold line kit of the 962 that I acquired for a great deal less than list price, but it was still expensive. Great kit and extremely well detailed, but still not an IMSA 962.

    One thing you might look for is the BRM line of slot car bodies.  They make some very nice molded plastic bodies in 24th scale that you can get pre-painted or in white.  I have the Lowenbrau decorated car body and it fits right on the Tamiya chassis with very little work.  Havent compared it yet to the details listed in your linked site, but it looks good having both the deeper rad inlets and "big hump" intake.  You can find them at Pendlesslotracing.co.uk and 132slotcar.us.

    Thank you David!

    I did see your post from last year about 962 IMSA driveline availability and was a little bummed that no one responded meaning that it probably doesn't exist.

    I love the look that that fat single turbo sitting on top.

  2. This page seems very comprehensive on the subject and does a very nice job of comparing 1/24 962 kits and offerings.

    https://robdebie.home.xs4all.nl/models/962a.htm

    And it seems that the above kit is really just a Tamiya 956.  I'm surprised that a Tamiya 962 body was not included in it.  I mean come on man seriously a 962 it is not.

    They could have at least provided replacement front and rear body panels with the correct wheels/tires.  For some reason this really has me miffed.

    Man I'd love it if there was a real 1/24 962 IMSA/GTP kit available.  Or at least front and read body parts as well a single turbo replacement.  Perry's Resin had one many many moons ago and it looked really really nice.  It's funny, his site has it listed for $50 but something like that would easily fetch $100+ now a days.

    I even went on Shapeways and thankfully some one has taken an interest in 1/24 scale 962, but the parts are expensive.  Is everything expensive or is it just me?

    Well, at least this site is free :)

    Does any one know if a Porsche 962 IMSA/GTP has been scratch built?

    This seems to be a nice kit of the 94' Lemans winner;

    http://www.gts-series.com/fr/voitures/kits-1-24/dauer-n36-gagnante-6385.xhtml

    So far, a decent attainable kit in 1/24 form seems to be the Hasegawa.

  3. Hi,

    Wondering if some one could shed light on this kit.  I had it but it was destroyed in last years fire.  I did get small chance to briefly look it over though.

    I recall that it seemed just like another Tamiya 956 kit with Kremer decals.

    A bit disappointing as the 962 had significant differences to the 956 in my eyes anyways.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Brian, I regret I did  not posting this photo of the Renaissance rear piece which I bought a couple of decades ago.  I do not know if it is the same one you ordered or not but it is TK24/258.  I put a built  up Heller for comparison.

    Hi Gary,

    No problem man, I bought the other version being with out the fins.  I can aways eBay it later but I'd rather use it.

    First, I want to thank everyone who's posted photos and other info in this thread. Very helpful, as there are several 917 projects I have waiting.

    Second...

    The more I look at the photos, which I admittedly have never really studied before, the more it's seeming to me that the noses of the later cars got wider and more squared over time. Not the windshields, but the width of the fenders, to compensate, probably, for wider rubber.

    This would be consistent, also, with the early cars having their headlights staggered to fit in the available space, and the later cars having their headlights side-by-side, as though it was no longer necessary to stagger them because the fenders were wider.

    Further study is required in order for me to come to a fully supportable opinion.

    Ah, very very good points.

    I've never really thought about it before but race cars seem to change season to season, race to race and even driver to driver.

    Oh you can do it.  The blue stripes are wide enough to give you some leeway.  Almost the whole side between the fenders is red with decals for the white.  If the drawings are actual size, you could get measuerments for reference points for the tape lines.  And if you missed by a bit, move the decal just a bit.  I bet the real car wasn't perfect either.  most race cars aren't.  Good luck with if you move forward.   Or send it all to me.  Looks like fun!

    Thank you Randy.  Well I don't have them and probably won't be getting them.

    I have the kit in my stash so you have my interest and am looking forward to what you get as responses.

    Hi Gary,

    I was able to find these;

    https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234925603-simil-r-ford-gt40/

    http://www.modelersite.com/Dic2012/TheBest/English/FordGT_eng.htm

    But not much else.

    Also on this forum a while back;

    Jonathan/martinfan5 seemed to echo what I remember reading about this kit a while back.

    I'm hoping for more build photos of any kind.

    PS I think that if one is serious about building the kit, then perhaps buying the build PDF by Fabrice Marechal from Modelers Site would be a very good idea.

  8. Hi,

    A little talked about kit and one that's almost impossible to find finished builds of is the 1/24 SimilR Ford GT.

    Does any one have a complete build or WIP?

    Seems a real bear which may be why many may have partially started and just walked away from it.

    At any rate I'd love to hear about the kit if any one has one.

  9. I'll probably end up buying the Renaissance corrective rear piece and post pictures of it versus the Fujimi part on this thread.  It's not a huge cost and should benefit our community.  Weather I use it will be a different story.

    I "think" that in terms of "the look", that between shaving off here and there and "perhaps using the wider rear piece, that the Fujimi 917 will look much much better.

    Brian,  I couldn't find the photos that compare the Fujimi and Heller bodies, can you post the photos or direct me where they are in the thread?

    Well, I'd love to oblige but neither can i :(

    I wouldn't be surprised if a member here had both to compare for us.

    I did find these 2 build articles;

    Fujimi http://www.modelersite.com/en/1690/porsche-917k-fujimi--1-24-scale

    Union http://www.modelersite.com/en/231/martini-porsche-917k-22-union-1-24-scale

  11. Hi,

    I've read some older posts here on the topic as it's been discussed a few times before.

    However I thought to bring it up to benefit some of the more recent board members like myself.

    Here is an article I just found which seemed to have nice results;

    https://tamiya.com/english/howto/bike1/tip4.htm

    The gist of it and previous articles are to use a mesh on top of a semi gloss black.  Then lightly shoot whatever color like a metallic grey or gunmetal grey etc... on to the mesh.  Once the mesh is removed you can follow up with a transparent orange, yellow etc... for further effect.

    The devil is in the details being;

    1) Picking the right sized mesh.

    2) Securing the mesh to the surface before spray.

    At any rate,  HTH.

    I acquired the Fijimi kit last year, along with photo-etch and the engine detail set.  I've known about this issue with the body, and have wondered if it's that important.  There is a Facebook - Porsche race cars group, some guys have built numerous models of the 917, so might be worth the time to check it out.

    I think what both you and Bill are eluding to is what Ben Brown also mentions in his Modeling Madness piece; Just enjoy the build etc...

    When funds permit, I may opt for the Renaissance corrective part out of curiosity.

  13. Hi Trevor,

    Here is a link detailing several 917 kits and for brevity, I've quoted the relevant info;

    https://robdebie.home.xs4all.nl/models/917kits.htm

    The kit has a shape problem is the front side, which is too wide (reportedly 4 mm), it's almost as wide as the rear side. The windscreen is accordingly too wide, which is very visible, and the makes the problem very difficult to solve. Heller got the dimensions almost spot-on for a '17" rear tire tail' 917K, as far as I can tell. Here are two forum pages that compare both bodies:

    http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28164

    http://www.forum-auto.com/automobile-pratique/modelisme-modeles-reduits/sujet8495-1260.htm

    PS The problem with getting an older Union/Heller kit is the possible body warpage.

    PSS Another great article from Modeling Madness;

  14. Hi,

    Has any one used the Renaissance 917 wide rear body piece to correct the unusually wide front of the Fujimi 917?

    It doesn't really fix it, but makes the rear wider so that optically it looks a little better, here is the part for reference;
