  1. And the body now gets the Tamiya clear blue. Once clear coated and polished, it should look pretty snazzy.
  2. After three good doses of liquid cement and some scouring with Scotch-Brite pads, I was able to make it look at least acceptable, so I've now gone ahead with the diamond flake.
  3. I have no idea why I hadn't seen this before, but a previous attempt was made to scribe around many of the body moldings.
  4. Two new kits showed up today from a good friend. The Phaeton really freaked me out, as I feared it only had the chopped top (which I loathe), but it has full fenders, engine cowl louvers and the standard, non-chopped top. The tires look like they belong on a farm tractor, but easy enough to replace. The Willys will probably end up as a cool gasser.
  5. Probably poor engineering by them, or poor prep work by me. I'm going to guess the latter. I just picked up a fresh 20lb CO2 tank today, so I can now resume some more painting on this, which pleases me a bunch.
  6. Finally! I was able to pick up another pristine, still sealed kit of this.
  7. And the (expedited) result. Tamiya white primer, Testors diamond dust, Tamiya clear blue & Testors clear. No issues at all, thank goodness. I'm very comfortable now with proceeding.
  8. More gaps dealt with. For some reason, I just couldn't get the fenders to fit 100% right.
  9. Of all the great advice which has been offered here, and I appreciate all of it, this really strikes home. I use the spoons just to check various paints to achieve a color I like, but ever gave a second though to compatibility issues, as such. So, I intend to try a combination that already worked on a spoon, but try it again on a couple of parts from the same kit (Revell '32 Ford Sedan), that I know I'll never use otherwise, so thanks very much for that thought. I'll post the results here in a few days.
  10. There was a small gap between the engine cowling and body, but I've addressed that with some wonderful Vallejo putty. I love that stuff!
  11. Hood now glued in position to the body, right front fender tweaked for a better fit, and I'm now very close to the painting stage.
  12. I believe I’ve found a wheel/tire combination that will work well for this car (snatched from a Monogram ’29 Ford pick-up kit). Wheels will of course be sprayed with Alclad chrome. Rear tires will receive Goodyear logos as well.
  13. Dupli-Color black lacquer & Tamiya white lacquer. The one with the black primer is the one that cracked all to heck.
  14. Thanks. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I' happy enough to call it done. Thanks very much. My first foiling attempt in quite a while, and I'd like to think what I learned (what to do, what not to do), will come in very handy on some soon to follow projects.
  15. The Testors diamond dust is supposed to be a lacquer, yes. And I agree, experimenting on my kits themselves is an absolute no-no. The thing is, the other spoon, (different primer though), turned out just great, and even allowed for an additional coat of Tamiya clear red lacquer over the clear orange, which I very much like.
  16. This is the first time I have ever experienced this. Looking for an orange combo that I might like, I sprayed Tamiya clear orange lacquer over some (very well cured) Testors diamond dust lacquer, and this happened. Any ideas?
  17. I've never been able to acquire a car model of a single real car that I've ever owned.
  18. Looking great. I'll look forward to seeing more.
  19. I'm going to have to snatch one of these kits. Nice work, I like it.
