Glenn Tooley replied to Glenn Tooley's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks! The flipnose hinge mechanism really fought me.....i had to trim them down and glue the hinges on with the hood closed. -

Thanks Jordan. Yes, the die-cast grille does fit if you sand a hair off the top, and a hair off the bottom of it. -

AMT '69 Barracuda Chassis Tip
Glenn Tooley replied to Glenn Tooley's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Like i said before.....still not a great chassis, but it is slightly better. For those modelers who aren't too worried about a detailed chassis. Thanks. -
So while attempting to hack away at the ugly molded-in exhaust On the old AMT 'cuda kit, i stumbled on the Fireball 500 kit that i Had in my stash. Upon inspection, they share the same AMT chassis Except theres NO UGLY EXHAUST pipes/mufflers molded in. A real time saver. Still not a great chassis.....just better.

1971 Plymouth GTX or Roadrunner...Finally painted!!
Glenn Tooley replied to Glenn Tooley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Something i did, you may want to do too....i dropped the front spindles. The stock height is just a bit too high for me, so i took my saw blade on my exacto knife and cut them off, flas as possible, and re-glued them higher in between the a-arms. This trick worked great, and it really looks alot better. -
1971 Plymouth GTX or Roadrunner...Finally painted!!
Glenn Tooley replied to Glenn Tooley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, back in the '80s Monogram made this kit minus the GTX emblems, And this was the hood feom that kit. I found a built up kit on ebay years Ago for cheap, so i grabbed it just for the hood. My lower front end piece seems to fit okay, but it will Require some body filler I think. -
Nice job! Love that vintage NASCAR.

I have considered several shades of Mopar blues....looks good for sure -
I am still trying to decide paint/interior colours. Should i go high-impact, or use a softer colour? Chassis is almost done, just finishing up the 440 six-pack I am using the better, wider wheels and tires from the older Revell 'Cuda kit Front and rear spoilers are being used, but i am using a slightly bigger deck spoiler from an old AMT kit

This one was molded in yellow and assembled unpainted. Found at an antique mall for 10 bucks, i got it because the decals were untouched. Big issues included the hood glued to the body, And i had to smash the taillights to get them out. Other than that, it blew apart easily, and i built it box stock. Paint is Duplicolor Burgundy.

I have been building approx 33 years, building my first model at 6 years old. Me, my Dad and my Brother grew up around pavement circle track racing, with all 3 of us racing at one point in our lives. My modeling interests include muscle cars, pickup trucks, local stock cars, NASCAR stock cars of all ages, and vintage drag racing..... all in 1/25, 1/24 scale.

This build took me about 5 weeks to finish. Chassis, driveline and decals are from the Polar Lights '71 Buddy Baker Charger (with the incorrect body). Body is the old AMT '69 Dodge Charger/Daytona, modified for stock car use, including a filled and smoothed nose-cone and a taillight filler panel. Paint is Tremclad red spray paint.
