  1. Hello all, long time lurker, occasional poster here. I'm 45 and wanting to do something out of the ordinary (for myself) annd try and create something like a show car I saw. Specifically, this one: I'd LOVE your suggestions on how to approach a few elements of the build, since I'm just a box-stock guy. 1. Looks like this would be built off the Revell 2in1 68 Charger Kit - with a lot of body work like smoothing out the bumpers, etc. I feel pretty confident in doing that. 2. How do you figure out the cuts needed to chop the roof? Would I need a second kit to use as a donor to fill sections? 3. Similarly, do I need to find a way to trim the glass after a chop? 4. To me, the low profile tires and rims make the car. I feel like I can figure out how to lower the car but how do I find aftermarket wheel/tires that are the right size? I'm worried about anything I find looking small in those wheel wells.I guess the first question is where can I find the right "style" of rim and tire (it doesn't have match perfectly, but something kind of like this Pegasus has some options but nothing too radical. Aoshima has some too but I'm worried theyl be small. .) and 2. How can I be sure they are big enough? 5. Are there resources for things like photo etched grills? 6. Can you get tire decals like thrones on these tires? 7. How does one achieve that matte paint finish? Your input is greatly appreciated! I'd surely love to hear your insights. Best, Rob
  2. Fairly new to this hobby and after searching the forum didn't find what I was looking for so hoping someone can help me here. Are there any resources for large "restomod" style wheels and tires? I don't have a specific style in mind, but more on the "wild" side is my preference. Here's an example of what I want to build: https://lowfastfamous.tumblr.com/post/175796031889/hot-wheels-yeah-adry53-with-some-more-dodge Any suggestions greatly appreciated!! Rob
  3. No pressure buuut...I miss this build so much! I've had it bookmarked on my desktop for months!
  4. @Ridge Rider, this is simply amazing. I've had this post bookmarked for months, checking it every other day or so for updates. Each one is a gift - I love seeing your process and how you craft each part so meticulously. Its an inspiration!
  5. Thanks all. I've been poking around Amazon and the two main brands I see for Compressors are PointZero and Master Air. Are either any good? The reviews for both are all over the place. Also, how important is it to have a tank? I do see that all seem to come with moisture traps, which is good.
  6. Hi all, Buying my first airbrush and I want to make sure I get everything I need. I'm an experienced builder but hanvet used an AB since I was a kid. Getting back into it and dont want to miss any essentials. Looking for advice on anything I might be missing from this list or on the items themselves. Thank you!\ My First Airbrush Iwata Revolution CR Iwata Medea Compressor - do I need an Iwata? Or is there a less expensive model that will work just as well? Iwata Spray-Out Pot AB Cleaning Tools - Do I really need these? Is there a better set to get? Vallejo Airbrush Thinner Iwata Airbrush Cleaner Anything else I need? Any recs on a good set of "starter paints"? I'm doing a military themed vehicle so that might suggest the color selection I'll need.... Thank you all! Rob
  7. Posting to say I check this thread every other day - have it bookmarked even! - and cant wait to see some updates! This is my favorite model build on the internet. On all of the internets actually!
  8. Thank you again everyone, this is incredibly helpful and MGL, that link is enormously helpful -very much appreciated!!
  9. Appreciate the input everyone! Any suggestions for the tires, rims and suspension setup?
  10. Thanks all! I wasn't sure if it was cool to post Wanted ads for just parts.
  11. Hi all, I recently got the intense desire to have a replica of some of the crazy cars from Mad Max Fury Road and in particular, the game. This car, specifically. (Below.) Its a 68 notchback Plymouth barracuda. I'd love to hear how you might approach this. Some of the things I'd love to figure out: 1. I've not seen a notchback cuda kit - only the fastback. Unless I'm missing something? 2. What would you use for the beefed up suspension and tires? 3. And most importantly, since I've not been in the model car scene: is there a venue for buying or trading PARTS only? For example, this car has 5 bumpers on it. I dont want to buy 5 kits but I bet my fellow modelers have extras in their spare parts bins to sell. Is there a good forum for this? Any other ideas on the build approach are very welcome. Looking forward to chatting with everyone! Rob
  12. Hi gang! New guy here. Long time reader, first time poster. I mostly scratch-build scifi but as a lifelong car lover, I'm going to start (back) into building scale auto. Haven't since I was a kid but recently got the itch. Anyway, wanted to say hello. Now, I'm off to General to pick your brains on a particular project I am about to embark on. Rob
