  1. This was yesterday, but needed to get the blood pressure down. Ran by the credit union to deposit a check and get a little spending money back from it. Then the teller asked me if I wanted to make a car payment (loan through them) since it was due on the 2nd. Told her I'd already made it and had made the October payment also. Was told no their rules don't allow early payments and I was now late on my Sep payment. I replied I send them in with the appropriate coupon for the months I was paying and were did it say on the coupon that I couldn't send them early and why the hell did I have a coupon booklet if I couldn't make payments with it?!? Was told you'll need to talk to a service rep so I'll put you on the list for one. So what was going to be maybe 10 minutes running in and cashing a check turned into an hour waiting to try and clear this up. Anyway was told that was their policy on all loans, the other payments were put against the principal and if I made September's payment now they'd waive the late fee. Then I asked about October since I'd already send it in. Was told I'd need to come in and do it across the counter since I didn't have a payment coupon. So I asked what the payoff amount was. I can cover it so am thinking about it just to get rid of it. This place's customer service had just when downhill over the last couple of years: closing local branches, fewer tellers, trying to force everything on-line or to your smart phone (which I don't have, can barely use the flip phone I have). Do have another accounts, but they're with Wells Fargo and all their BS has been on the national news the last few months. To quote an old, long time friend, "I'm glad I'm old and won't have to deal with this much more". And I'm more cynical and depressive them him.

  2. I'm still hopin' to squeeze out a few more weeks of summer, as the car show/cruise nights are still going on through the month of Sept.

And here in Phoenix we're looking towards October when usually temperatures start being consistently under a 100 and the car shows start back up. I'm looking forward to being able to get out and really do some walking again and heading down to the river preserve. Just can't handle it over 90 anymore. Which is why I used to work 2nd and 3rd shifts and sleep during the early morning and day.

  3. Just saw that. I loved that band. Them and David Bowie pretty much got me through the early-mid 70's with all that country rock and sensitive singer-songwriter stuff.  Then finally the Ramones came along. When they got back together and started touring in the 90's I spend way too much money to a scalper to get a ticket. Don't remember what I spend now, but sure do remember that show.

  4. Here's a photo stolen from eBay that shows all the parts.  The 2 side enclosures are at the far left.  The tailgate and 4 posts are at bottom center.  The roof extension is on the right side of the photo, just under the body and on the same sprue as the tonneau cover:  So would say to make it an Advanced Styling kit the took out the roof pieces and service truck parts; then added those front and rear extension pieces with the parts needed for them. Also has a sheet of upholstery and a piece of sandpaper. Think I took the dried up tube of putty out many years ago.

Finally got my lazy self up to shot a quick photo of some of the green box stuff, its somewhat different. As you can see its an instruction booklet with different custom parts, different decals, not in photo but the clear red instead of the single light for the dome has 2 lenses for the rear custom piece.

  5. Thanks, looking on U.S. eBay just now I saw them in the SMER box and also releases by Heller and other companies.  With a wide variety of prices.  I have the Atlantis double kit.

I put a typo in my post, the company name is AtlantiS (not Atlantic).  Stupid fingers!  According to the Atlantis website, they only issued 500 of the double kits world-wide.  I just saw one on eBay for $25, so they don't seem to be fetching outrageous prices.  Yet.

The Heller Lago-Talbot kit is a different version of the car from the next year if I remember right. Like all race cars lots of detail changes from year to year if not from race to race depending how picky you want to get. Having had any luck finding the Atlantis double kit or replacements for the individuals ones that were stolen.

  6. Wayne ,   I hit Paydirt on this one !!!! Looks like I have BOTH the boxes that AMT produced the Ranchero kit in for 1961 . First , AMT released their Compact series as 1.39 originally . These were "Curbsiders " as engines weren't offered in these kits . HOWEVER, UNIQUE to these kits were the smaller 13 inch tires and today , they're near extinct . These tires were NEVER re- issued in the remakes of the Ranchero and if you look closely, you'll see them on my Sedan delivery .
One of the things that remains a mystery to me is that the "Port holes" pictured on the AMT Compact kit box were NOT in the parts inventory . I guess one could raid the Round Port holes from a Ford Econoline van kit to duplicate the Box art model . The reissues of the Ford Falcon Ranchero did indeed supply the "Padded roof extension " needed to allow the Sedan delivery option to mate to the cab's roof.

Hopefully, these photos will help you identify what kits to be on the hunt for .

Thanks for the info. I have the S1031 green box. I got this kit 40+ years ago. Just dug back through it, no roof parts or reference about it on the instruction booklet. Does have this weird ft and rr extensions to graft on the body...and the 13 inch tires. Nobody does the tires in resin? They would work on most early 60's Ford compacts, even the early Mustang. In my tire buster years, one of the weirder combos I saw was an early 65 (64.5) 260 powered Mustang with 5 bolt 13 inch wheels. Owner said they came out on the 63.5 Falcon Sprint V8 and was used through the 64 model year as a base V8 wheel tire combo unlike now were every early Mustang seems to have came with the styled steel wheels.

When I saw Ranchero Steve's photos of Gurney's cars from the Peterson, thought I'd post these for more info for reference. Not all the best shots since was a bit darker in there then I thought. Was going to get back out and rephoto some, then the money man behind the museum died and it eventually folded. Support your local museums!!! Also I posted photos from the Unser Museum a couple of months ago, think there are a couple of Eagles there also.

  8. Thanks, like I said I couldn't remember the number on Mason's car, too lazy to look it up. Unfortunately the model I had along with the Herb Deeks' photo etch wire wheels for it was in the stuff I had stolen a couple of years ago. Haven't been able to replace it or the wheels.

The closest I know in 1/24 is an older papercraft model that I'm not sure if it is still available. http://papermau.blogspot.com/2013/03/aston-martin-turismo-paper-model-in-124.html

  9. Stay away from downtown Portland, it's weird

Not a resident, just visited several times in the last few years. I think downtown and the Pearl district are wonderful. If nothing else for Powell's Book, Blick Art, Portland Art Museum and just hanging out at the park along the Willamette, bunch of good restaurants in the area also.

Would be more then happy to trade places to get out of the Phoenix area since I think it's weird.

  10. Yep, thanks.  According to an old Art Anderson post, what I meant was Tenite: "Those older JoHan promo's prior to 1963 (and AMT promo's through 1961) were most certainly molded in acetate plastic (trade name Tenite), and for a very good reason: Safety. Styrene plastic in its early years was very brittle, and a styrene plastic toy, when dropped, could shatter very much like glass. Acetate plastic doesn't have that hazard as it is a lot tougher, more resilient. However, acetate plastic has a tendency to shrink after being molded, as well as being affected by humidity, which leads to warping of complex hollow shapes, such as a promotional model car body. For 1962 promo's, AMT switched to a then-new type of plastic: Cycolac, which was the early trade name for ABS plastic. JoHan made this switch for their promo's for 1963 (MPC came along a couple of years after the introduction of ABS."

And I didn't get one of these, but just saw it on eBay (Buy It Now price of $100, so I won't be getting it any time soon, either).  Thought people with a fondness for weird kits (like me) might appreciate it.  This is the "Nichimo 1/20 Honda Vamos Leisure Car Series 4:"

No problem, just figure you got brand names switched.

Nichimo sure did some weird models of weird cars. Would love one of those if it was 1/24-25 which was the other issue with Nichimo is they used a lot of weird scales. By the way has anyone figured out were 1/28 came from. I've seen it primarily on Asian sourced models, including the paper models I mess with, but have never found anyone that knows how it originated. Figure it must be some kind of metric conversion. Anyone??

  11. One of my early PC-leaning teachers used to recommend that "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

So instead of commenting, I guess I'll just go wash my eyes out.

I didn't pay much attention to learning social norms so I'll say: 'that thing is an aberration and affront to car lovers'.
