  1. And, even if they were willing to sell it would be such an inflated price than no one would pay the "insane" number. I had the same experience here. A local junkyard has a 64 Falcon wagon perched on top of a container. I asked 5 years ago if he would sell it. He said he wanted to wait a while before he was ready to sell.( he never said HOW long.) I asked again last year. The car now has broken windows, the trim is falling off, the front suspension has bent a bit because of the way its been placed on the container, and there's more rust. He said he wouldn't move it off the container for less than $ 40,000. What a fool !
  2. A beat up ( cosmeticly) 1996 Dodge 2500 pick-up. Mechanically she's fit as a fiddle. 240, 000 miles on her, but I try to stay on top of maintenance because she's our material hauler. So far I have replaced a head gasket, clutch, and 2 years ago I replaced the transmission. The only time I had to take her to a mechanic was for the alignment. ( I don't have the knowledge to figure that out by myself... as evidenced by the odd tirewear that occurred after I "eyeballed" it ) And a very tired 2004 Suzuki grand vitara. ( 257,000 miles on the clock.)
  3. Model cars/trucks are all on shelfs. Tanks, planes, ships are all in a very large steamer trunk. ( big enough to fit me and my wife in it... but that's a story for another time ...) Trains, figures, buildings and scratchbuilding supplies are all in 4 cupboard's ( each 2 feet wide x 3 feet tall.) I also have 2 pegboard's of model train parts set up over both workbenches. As well as 4 tackle box's full of all kinds of spare parts. ( and several box's of unsorted miscellaneous body's, and bits. ) And, ... my model vegetation for dioramas ( bags of ground foam, bags of different sizes of rocks, box's of resin and bottles of tinting, and lots of little tree trunks) just seems to be everywhere.
  4. I'm a truck driver ( have been for over 25 years) and my schedule is kinda all over the place. Pair that with my wife's NON-STOP to do list, and my hour or Two a week for myself suddenly dissapear.
  5. Joke is on you because I drove a Hearse for years and only heard "voices" .
  6. Peril is what I come close to sometimes, when the wife finds my hobby store purchases.
  7. Often I find myself wondering just which sentence is the right sentence I should be using for the next post.
  8. Business is booming at my recently opened hobby shop, but I'm my only customer.
  9. Of the top of my head, ... Any of the Monogram "Early Iron " kits , Lil Coffin, Boot hill express, and any of Monograms 1926 Mack trucks. Everybody should have a swing at the AMT 1966 Mustang. And, at some point everybody should build at least one Jo-Han funnycar.
  10. Out of necessity, I carry a big stick when shopping at Wal-mart.
  11. Lennon was a trend setter in Russia, but I'm glad it didn't catch on here in the states.
  12. Often I wonder if I should have stuck to my first hobby of collecting bottle caps.
  13. Fuzzy paint jobs result from my cats using my airbrush when I'm not looking.
  14. 2020 was the "year of the dumpster fire".
  15. Definition of my ab's has gone from "six-pack" , to "beer-keg".
  16. Wayyyyyy back in 1995, a fellow modeler was lamenting about his lack of spare parts. He hadn't been building for very long ( about 2 years, and not a lot of models) I told him I had some spare parts I could give him, and told him to bring his dad's pickup. I gave him 1 ( one) Box of parts .... it was a refrigerator box 6 foot by 3 foot by 3 foot ( these measurements are a best guess, you all know how big a fridge is. ) I never even noticed them missing.
  17. All part numbers are the same.. " take B-34, and attach to B-34." " put sub assembly aside ". " now take part B-34 and attach to B-34. Attach assembly beneath part B-34 and with a twisting motion break part B-34 free of subassembly." "You should now have a spare part B-34 "
  18. I do remember a model railroad company actually doing the block of wood kits. Just a picture of what you were supposed to build, no instructions whatsoever. I attempted one once, but as a 10 year old using Grandpa's band saw to rip individual planks from the block, I gave up on the passenger car it was "supposed" to be and managed just a flatcar.... and it wasn't pretty either.
  19. Plastic injection molding machines were never invented. Model manufacturers give you a box ( with incredible artwork on the top ) but inside is a block of wood. The instructions say " take block of wood, ...make look like car".
  20. Nice ! I like the one and only gauge mounted right where it should be.
  21. This is just my average weekend schedule. Mon through Fri I have to work for " the man" , then come home and catch up on all the farm chores. ( stuff is constantly breaking, and the pigs escape every few days so I have gotten very good at catching the proverbial " greased pig".) I hope to put " the man" in my rear view mirror within the next 2 or 3 years.
  22. So far this morning, I started the fire in our woodstove, switched the power from our solar battery's to the generator, let the inside dogs out to do their business, and took all my medication ( to be repeated later tonight.) Now I'm preparing to go out and feed our zoo ( pigs, goats, ducks, turkeys, chickens, rabbits, dogs, and cats) this will take around 2 hours. Later today, fix whatever is wrong with our tractor ( I suspect the fuel line is cracked) , finish putting up the back wall of the new turkey pen, cut/chop more wood for later tonight, and help SWMBO with the new kitchen countertops. If I'm lucky, I should be working on models by 4pm. ( today's project is 6 ho scale boxcars I got for Christmas . ) In bed by 8:30pm. Rinse, Repeat,
  23. I know some older pick-ups had the tank behind the seats, at the rear of the cab . Just put a fill spout next to the driver's door.
  24. Both. Yea, I L O V E opening a "rare/vintage/ never to be produced again kit. ... and then spilling paint all over it ...
