N-scale 1918 Pierce Arrow flatbed
TheSDTrucker replied to mecklm's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
How do you paint something this small? It looks fantastic! -
Very fine looking rig! I've always loved how those old White trucks look

I have seen a lot of extended sleepers recently on the board and it made me wonder about something. How many of you guys put details into your sleeper interiors? I've seen a Mercury here and there with a painted interior and a bed, but I would like to know if any of you guys go all out on sleeper interiors.

As far as the air compressor, it doesn't seem to matter. I've seen a lot of air compressors on the 71 series that are mounted on the rear gear drive of the engine. I don't think I've ever really seen a belt driven compressor on one but I do know they exist. I know a lot of them had a rear mounted belt driven alternator. I'm putting an 8v71T in my AMT Freightliner, but I used a 92 series as a base and changed some of the features to make it look like an 8v71T rather than an 8v92T.

That helped me out too since I'm doing an 8v71T for my White Freightliner.

I haven't seen many pictures of a horizontal Cummins engine, I would also like to see how these engines worked.- 114 replies

That makes a lot more sense than what I was thinking. Great photos of a pretty rare truck configuration. These charts are so cool! If only we still had a selection like this today..- 114 replies

As far as what I see from the two companies, they're both owned by Daimler. I would imagine quality is very similar.- 114 replies

Freightliner COE Questions
TheSDTrucker replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now days the quality level to me goes from Peterbilt/Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack, Volvo, Western Star, and International. International being at the very low end of the spectrum.- 114 replies

Freightliner COE Questions
TheSDTrucker replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It seems like all Freightliners were oddballs back then. I confirmed the one I'm basing my build off of is a 1972. It's in MUCH better shape than the white truck the link sends you to.- 114 replies

Freightliner COE Questions
TheSDTrucker replied to TheSDTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just found the link, it's in Covington TN. It's in rough shape, but with some time and skilled work, it could be put back on the road. https://www.truckpaper.com/listings/trucks/for-sale/17805745/1971-freightliner-fla96- 114 replies

I built this interior from a damaged kit just to get some practice. While it is decent for a first time, I'm not fully satisfied with it. My new interior will have real leather covering the plastic to make it more realistic. I am modeling my interior after the burgundy brougham interior. I am using a darker red paint this time for any plastic the leather doesn't cover.

I have contacted him, and the parts have shipped and should be here any day now. I kind of expected that to happen since I ordered over the holidays, but no matter, I'm in no rush to complete this model. In the mean time, my leather piece I ordered just showed up, so I will start on forming the diamond trim pattern to use in the cab. I opted for leather because I don't like the cheap look of the plastic.
