  1. Same here. I clean up all the parts and just put them together the way they intended. Haven't had any problems
  2. Here's the kit decals. I'll just use what I can, no big deal
  3. Cool, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure what color it should be. Maybe it was a crate motor replacement from DD? Luckily it won't really be visible under the hood.
  4. Here's today's progress. I made a strap for the jerry can, and mounted it on the fender, then got the fenders on. I weathered the tires with dust, and mounted them. I got going on the interior Some careful masking, and made the appropriate panels black The seat bases were by far the hardest part. Very delicate, and the instuctions weren't crystal clear And I rested the interior on the frame to see how it will look. I'll probably work on the cab tomorrow.
  5. Thanks for everyone's input. That phalanx truck is pretty cool. I was in the Coast Guard, and the second ship I was on had a phalanx on the fantail. We called it the "seawhiz", for CIWS (close in weapon system). It was broken most of the time. I've never seen a HEMTT in person, so my accuracy may not be perfect. This trumpeter kit is great, very detailed. A lot of the decals are unuseable however. I think some things were lost in translation, and some of them are jibberish. I'll just leave them off. Unless someone knows of an accurate set for these. I did a brief search, and didn't come up with anything. Anyways, I love this kit, and I'm having fun with it so far.
  6. Some more work on this. Some small details were added to the chassis. Shock absorbers, shackles, air tanks, battery box, steering box, small superstructure and hoist. I also put together and installed the engine. I put a wash on the frame to make the bolt heads stand out, but I didn't do a great job. Here's the engine. The other half of the turbo is attached to the muffler, to be assembled later. Here's the frame with some small details added and the engine dropped in place and battery box installed I also put together the driver's side fender with air cleaner and hydraulic tank
  7. I'm working on an Oshkosh army tractor. I'm not sure if military is allowed here, but it's a truck with a 5th wheel, so I guess it counts. This is a kit from Trumpeter, in 1/35 scale. It's very detailed, and has 521 pieces. I'm really happy with the kit so far. I'm used to building old Revell and AMT kits, so I'm really impressed with the quality of the parts. There's basically no flash, and no seams. The parts fit together as if they are actually supposed to go together. The fit is tight, with no gaps. I'm used to larger scale kits, with bigger parts. This kit has a lot of tiny pieces. It also has a few of PE parts, which I'm not good at. I have shakey hands, and my vision isn't what it used to be. This kit will be difficult for me, but I'm up for the challenge. I'm building mine in desert sand. I'm thinking of making a part or 2 in green, as if swapped from another truck, as surely happens. I started with the frame. Most of the crossmembers are sub assemblies of 2 or 3 parts. Everything went together nicely without trouble. Then I got to work on the suspension. There's a front assembly and a rear assembly. The steering knuckles pop into place, and are moveable. The tierods glue into place, and won't allow for steering once built. It seems that it could be assembled with the wheels turned one way or the other however. I'm building mine with the wheels straight. These are the steer axles Rear axles. I'd call them drive axles, but this is 8 wheel drive And I got them put on the frame
  8. I just finished this one up. It's mostly out of the box, with the exception of PE dash, and AITM front wheels. I also trimmed the rear of the front fenders to make them more accurate, and changed the hood sides to more closely represent a 353. And I used the 36" inch sleeper from the snap pete I need to fix the front bumper since it sagged a little, and I need to straighten up the driver's mirror, but this one is about done
  9. Thank you, I kind of figured it would be ok. I couldn't find anything in the rules against it. I'll post it, and if it gets deleted, I'll understand
  10. My next build will be an Oshkosh M983 tractor. I'd like to share on this site, but I'm not sure if it's allowed. It does have a 5th wheel
  11. I made some more progress, I have nothing else to do. Body done with paint. Copper, gold, bronze and nickel. I wish the gold and nickel stood out from each other mote, maybe in the sun. Body just loosely sitting on frame for effect
  12. Some more work done today. I worked on making the hood proper. I cut off the fairings Then I cut out the notch for the air cleaner piping Then I made some new panels I cut the cowls off the cab The material is too thick where the cowl was, so I had to thin it out I worked on the interior, Czech photoetch from Jamie And photoetch foot pedals
  13. Engine done I cleaned out the wheel openings. They just took the 10 hole wheels, and closed 8 holes. I took a drill bit and opened the holes to make them more closely resemble budd wheels. And it's a rolling chassis front floats and 6 spoke wheels from AITM
  14. Just started in on the Alaskan Hauler kit. I worked on a few random bits. I started with stretching the frame The chassis will be a copper color I'm using the 36" sleeper from the Snap Pete. The floor was not the proper height to use the support crossmember when snapped into its slot. I want to fill in the slots on the back of the sleeper anyways. So I put in some supports for the floor at the correct height. The back of the sleeper is supported on the crossmember with a pin. I was going to cut the one off the 60" sleeper, but I decided to just make one from stretched sprue. I'm starting in on the engine next
  15. Hi, I am building up a Revell Pete, with the twin turbo Cummins engine. I built one of these a long time ago, but don't have the model anymore. I remember having a really hard time getting the turbos and piping in the correct locations. Does anyone have a couple pictures of a properly built up turbo section?
  16. Just finished this up yesterday. It's supposed to represent on old, well-used old truck running around the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. I think I got a little carried away with the cab rust, but overall, I'm happy with the build. Thanks for looking
  17. Finished! I'll put it in the Under Glass section
  18. A little more progress. Trailer is mostly together, the reach is in paint booth
  19. A little more progress. I didn't take many photos, but I got the headache rack and bunk mounted on the truck. I had to narrow the steps a bit, because they wouldn't fit between the fenders and battery boxes
  20. There was a reissue a few years back, which sold for around $80. This one is older and somewhat collectable. I'd pay $150 for it
  21. Hey everyone, I'm working on designing my next build. I'm making the Alaskan Hauler 353, and I'm not sure which route to go. I've figured out the color scheme, but I'm not sure whether to go with a day cab or sleeper. I did lots of searches on the interweb, and it really looks like 353s didn't have sleepers. But that doesn't mean that someone couldn't add one. I love day cabs, and I could build nothing but those. But I would like to incorporate a sleeper into a build. I really like the lines on the one with the 36" sleeper. My other thought is the shorter wheelbase day cab. What do you guys think? Is a 353 with a sleeper unrealistic? But I do like the "Alaskan Hauler" idea, which would most likely have a sleeper. I'm torn. What's your input?
  22. Headache rack got lost in the mail, finally arrived. I'll post to on the glass once I build a trailer for it. I think I'll wait for the spread axle flat bed
