  1. Funny thing is it'll be a solid maroon, so not too different to the red primer just a bit shinier!
  2. Thank you Rusty, I like how it's gone so far. Thanks Gary, and I will do. Taking a few photos and writing a little bit helps me focus on each stage and make sure I keep moving on. Thanks Snake! Oddly enough, I did have a similar thought about it in primer when I saw how it looked after getting the first couple of coats down. In 30+ years of spraying models I think it may be the first time I've used red primer and it does give a cool look straight out of the can - might be something to consider for another project?.......
  3. A lot of work there, and great to read through your progress on it, both good and bad.
  4. Thanks Tim, all the better for those seats you kindly supplied. Thank you Jerry!
  5. Oh my, that's really nice! What a great conversion you've done there.
  6. Didn't spend as much time on the models this weekend as I wanted to, but the Corvette moved-on nicely: 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Doesn't look like there's too much additional work required on the body, just the odd scratch to fill where I slipped when scribing the panel lines and scraping off the old paint. 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Easily managed to find a set of alternative, narrower tyres. Back of the rim trimmed to suit, they now fit much better.
  7. Been doing little bits on this one alongside the two other current projects, mostly foiling along with a bit of detail painting: 1:25 Monogram Maserati 3500 GT kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr At one time I'd considered leaving the grille completely open, but I think it would then lose too much of its identity. Sadly it looks like the nose wants to part company with the bodyshell - after this long it's not getting stripped to fix properly, I shall touch-up the joint and attach some strips inside to make it sure it stays put.... 1:25 Monogram Maserati 3500 GT kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Most of the foil now done. Not looking forward to fixing the glass, it seems a bit approximate as to how it fits inside the apertures. Side windows will remain open. Should get it finished later this month.
  8. It found its way onto a Japanese kit as well: 1:24 Aoshima Nissan Bluebird Turbo Silhouette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr
  9. Build it, but only when you're confident you've nailed a look for it that you'll always be satisfied with? If you're in any doubt then get hold a of a reissue. I have the Hasegawa road and rally car versions to do someday. Never seen the Revell version so I don't know how it compares.
  10. Excellent, looks as frighteningly complex as the real thing.
  11. It's not something I'd choose to build, but I admire the perseverance and results you're getting on this. For some reason I imagined these to be quite large at 1:1, but from your WIP photos it appears to be the opposite.
  12. Wow! Fantastic work there, subtle but clearly comprehensive changes that have given it a great look, and very nicely built.
  13. Thanks Martin. I have plenty of unusual things on my shelves awaiting their turn, someone has to build this stuff..... I'm mostly with you on the lowering, although when I did it at 1:1 on a Datsun 160J SSS some years ago it wasn't so good. I ended up going through part-worn front tyres at quite a rate due to the negative camber I ended up with, and it didn't drive so well on the bumpy country roads. Worst of all, I couldn't run matching wheels front and rear. Progress during the week: 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Green will definitely be the main colour, champagne gold around the bottom if I'm feeling confident enough to do two-tone. 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Sprayed a white basecoat on last night, which went down nicely and just minimal work required before I can get some colour applied. Interior the next big job. More seats to do in this one than usual......
  14. Thanks Carl! Thanks, and funny to see the different opinions on the Mythos! It's not something I'm particularly excited about now, I much prefer more 'normal' cars, and even then I wondered what I found appealing about it. Honda NSX is one supercar I'd have in real life. My fondness for them was probably encouraged by building this model, same as it was the Lexus LS400/Toyota Celsior - which I'm now lucky enough to be enjoying at 1:1. Deeply unlikely I'll ever have a real NSX however....
  15. Good progress so far. It's not a kit I've seen before, definitely something I'll look out for. Can tell you're a UK builder with all the Halfords cans! What are the small Hycote Double Acrylic cans like to use? I bought one just the other day because I needed a particular colour, a quick test shot showed it to give a decent finish.
  16. Looks fantastic, and what a stunning collection you have there!
  17. Very nice. Some useful reference as to what I need to do on my Monogram '65.
  18. Very nice! Perfet colour choice too.
  19. Snake's "Bring Out Your Dead" topic got me thinking about this one, and I've signed-up to make me crack on and get it finished. 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I bought it around 1989/90 as I remember reading a good review of it in Street Machine magazine's "Small Talk" section. My friend and housemate started it around 1991, instead of spending money going out in town we'd sometimes sit and work on models (she did a nice job on an old BMW 328). The engine, chassis and interior got mostly assembled and the body was brush-painted with red Humbrol enamel. It never got finished and then sat in my parts box for some years, I believe losing its engine to my Maserati V8 conversion project and its wheels and tyres to a Buick. A few years ago I had a tub of brake fluid handy so it took a bath, and this is what I ended up with: 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Since this shot I've spent some time with a knife and scribing tool, getting much of the Humbrol residue removed. Will try and finish that dull job this weekend, then hit it with some primer. Finished look is already in my mind, with a straight, solid colour and wheels taken from an unlikely source: Aoshima 1:24 Nissan Cedric V30 Turbo Brougham VIP (Y30) kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The box art shows it with standard rims, but the kit includes a set each of BBS and Cragar SS wheels. The latter are rather nicely done and I've been wondering what to use them on for a while now, this project seemed ideal. 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr This is without the chassis, if I can get the wheels to sit something like this I'll be happy. Front end seems to be OK, but rear is going to need work: 1:24 Monogram 1965 Corvette kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Job one will be to shave the rim off the back of the wheel and reduce the depth of the lug in the middle. I'll also see if I have any slightly narrower tyres. Depending how that goes, I then might shave a little off the side of the suspension arm and chassis. Interior tub is OK though. I want to keep the wide tyres as I'm looking at the possibility of fitting the engine from this one and I figure it would need a fair bit of rubber at both ends to keep it on the tarmac: Monogram 1:24 1992 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr If not, then hopefully a bid on an Owens Corning Corvette 427 will work out, and that engine could be used instead. Or I'll see what's lurking in the parts box. I want to keep the bodywork standard, paint colour will probably be Tamiya TS-11 Maroon. I toyed with TS-9 British Green, but I'm not feeling it. The Black Rat decals can stay where they are.....
  20. Looks like an interesting conversion project, good luck with it!
  21. Cool, sign me up then! I'll start a separate WIP thread for it, but will give the odd report on progress here. Made a bit of a start the other evening....
  22. An impressive transformation already.
  23. Just had a look at mine, the interior is really neat. This is my version of the Nissan: 1:24 Dragon Nissan Caravan E20 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr It was given to me by a friend, it will get built one day. And what I received in the last day or two: 1:24 Tamiya Honda S2000 (TypeV) kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Monogram Miller Buick Stock Car + kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Shame the decals have cracked and it's suffered a bit of light damage underneath, but the paintwork is very good and it was built to a pretty decent standard. Might just remove the decal and light pod, give it a polish and get it back together rather than completely strip it.
  24. Welcome, looks like you've been pretty successful on all counts there.
