Gotcha, I’ve found Rustoleum can be hit or miss on models. I have been mostly using Duplicolor Perfect match paints since I like how they coat, as well as Tamiya for some colors. The paint from Automotive Touchup is my ultimate favorite to work with, but it is pricier and takes several days to arrive.

Don’t give up though, it’s coming along well otherwise!

I did just get some of the Duplicolor paints, I am looking forward to trying them!

    Thanks for the confidence.

  2. I'VE DONE IT!!! I think I finally crossed that pinnacle line in my skill set. I got this near perfect paintjob out of my very finicky airbrush. I was so pleased with this finish, that I immediately knew I had to share it. This is the best paintjob I have ever ever ever done, and I am so proud of it. It isn't as good as anyone else here but I worked *dang* (whoops) hard on it, and it paid off.

    Using Mission Models Deep blue:

It looks quite workable so far.

I wish you better luck on this go around.

Thank you, even if the paint isn't smooth this time, I am going to let it go. I can't afford to keep redoing it.

I may have missed it, but what paint are you using for the body?

Uh.... I never actually said because it is a really really crappy paint. I have done my best with it so far, but it is the Rustoleum Metallic Finish.

I've noticed that the temperatures in Canada are in 50's and it's been a little damp with humidity at around 75%. This could be some of your problems with the paint if your painting in an enclosed space like a garage where the humidity can wreak havoc on paint. Do you have a paint booth as of yet Declan?

Unfortunatly, I do not have a paint booth. If I did, I wouldn't be having such issues. My paint area is in the basement, it is less humid than the rest of the house though. I haven't gotten the 50 degree weather but the humidity in Canada right now is stupidly high.

  5. Alright, my entry is going to be the Revell 1:48 P51.

This is a kit that I fondly remember, and I still have my original. This may sound like yesterday for most of you, but I made this one about 6 years ago. But considering I have only been modelling since 6 years ago, this is one of my earliest models. At the time I made it, it was one of my best. I was super into aircraft and this alongside the F4U was a favourite.

I want to do some aftermarket stuff with this, as I have never done that before and I think it would greatly improve what I have here. From my 6 years of experience, I really think I can make a replica about 10x better than this one.

If this build off is for prizes, I won't win. But I don't care, I love the idea of getting a chance to redo something of my past and showing off the increase of skill I have had in 6 years.

Went ahead and dug into this kit.  I’m pretty excited for this build.  I had a sealed one and then found a deal on this one that was open but complete.

Oh wow! That looks like it will come out nicely no matter who does it.

nice work interesting choice for the name  the ss valiant was the name of the ship the pitted and burned  fight recorder the enterprise found  near the galatic barrier  in 2265   in the second pilot  where no man has gone before

    Thank you!

The name was just a decal I had, and I cut the U of USS as the pirates would not want to be associated with any United star ships. Valiant seemed appropriate as the pirates posses that quality.
