That sure is a beautiful subject and you really did a great job on it. Thanks for sharing your build.

You guys have some unreal skills. Thanks to all for posting the eye candy.

I guess I'll be getting the La Ferrari then. At 2.8 million I want to be able to take it through the McDonald's drive through. I was so disappointed in the way my La Ferrari came out that I picked up a second one to give it another go once I have more experience. As I build more kits I'm learning to slow down and take my time. The results are better and it's more fun too.

2k and paint repair? Can it be fixed?
AlbertD replied to AlbertD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Jim. I had a couple of specks that needed to be sanded out. The finish was great otherwise. I started with wet 4000 grit Tamiya sanding pad then 8000 and then to Tamiya polish. I burned through on the 4000. I think it was a combination of things that went wrong. My 2k was probably too thin, I didn't pay enough attention to what I was doing and I got too close to the sharp edge. My next build will be a simple inexpensive kit with no decals to try to get the technique down. With no decals I can strip itmif needed. I also picked up a set of Micro Mesh sanding pads to try. -

Thanks Trevor. It was definitely worth it. Now I need to work on improving my sanding and polishing. It's better every model for sure. -
2k and paint repair? Can it be fixed?

Not perfect but it's fixed. I sprayed the whole panel with the original black then hit it with some clear gloss lacquer (MRP). I may just leave it as is and not polish it. -
Great looking beetle. The engine looks amazing.

No enamel used. The Gravity paint is lacquer and I thought 2k was a polymer or similar. I already put some new black Gravity down with no issues. Will try the clear tomorrow. -

Oops. Sorry for the double post. -
Sounds like a good plan. I know next to nothing about the GT40 so will have to do some learning before I modify anything. I’ll do the first one from the box and concentrate on the external looks and go deeper on a second one. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you more experienced modelers do with the kit.

2k and paint repair? Can it be fixed?

Thanks for pointing that out. It would have left a nice paint ridge. I’ll get the paint on today and decide what I want to try for a clear coat. I do think a regular lacquer would be best. The one big benefit of lacquer is it’s pretty easy to blend and repair. I don’t think the 2k is as forgiving. -
2k and paint repair? Can it be fixed?

I was thinking about trying that. I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's under the rear wing too so that should help hide it. I'll try it and post back. -
2k and paint repair? Can it be fixed?

This was primed with Gravity primer, painted with Gravity Anthracite Black and 2K'd with MRP gloss 2k. I was sanding out a couple of dust specks and got carried away. Can I mask the decals off and spray some new paint then blend in some new 2k? Will it stick to the old stuff? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -
Nice progress. The Corvette and GT40 are my favorites.

I just ordered the Meng kit off ebay. I made an offer of $40 and they accepted it. That's with free shipping. That's a darn good deal if you ask me.

Looks fantastic. I understand these are pretty nice kits. -
Your Ferrari looks really nice. I recently finished the La Ferrari which I think is very similar to yours and it was probably the most challenging kit I have ever built. I made the mistake of adding one of those big detail sets without enough experience. I could never get the doors to work right and ended up gluing them closed and made a mess of it to boot. You should feel proud of your fine looking model.

I'll be getting at least one. I'll probably do one OTB and wait for a nice detail set for another. It looks like a nice kit.

Iwata HP-C Plus airbrush issues

It's part of my regular maintenance now. I was living with it for a couple of months before I got serious about fixing it. -
That's a beautiful model of a classic. A couple of quick questions if you don't mind. How was the kit to build and are the wire wheels from the kit? If those are kit wire wheels they look pretty amazing.

I really like your build. It's a beautiful car too. Im on a bit of a Ferrari kick right now. I can see from the view through the windows that the interior looks fantastic. There are some nice resin kits of cars that are not available in plastic. I may get up the nerve to try one someday.
