Those 20 year old appliances would have probably outlasted the new ones!

i will never forget when i first moved out on my own in 1999. my family had a really, really old microwave, from when they first came out, so when i moved out, i bought my own microwave. i didnt realize how much more powerful the new ones were vs the ones my family had. the first time i cooked popcorn i put it on for 5 minutes, which was what my families microwave would take, after a few minutes, i smelled it burning and saw it was on fire in the microwave. i put the next one in and did like 2 minutes and they were completely burned. then i noticed there was a button labeled popcorn. i hit it and it was like 45 seconds or something like that.

  2. Kind of a funny story. My wife got me 3x 10 dollar gift cards to McDonald's as a gift.

Today I decided to use it, so I got food and it came out to 14 dollars, so I gave the lady two of the gift cards and after swiping both she said the cards are both empty and tried to take them. I said wat. One of them should hav like ,6 dollars more, so she looked at me and then gave them to me me. On the receipt it even showed a balance. I'm pretty sure she was trying to steal it. She looked at the receipt before saying it and it was very clear there was balance on the cards

  3. Tickie is sleeping with his face/nose against the foam on my slot car track table. I have never seen that before. He slept like that for a long while.

  6. we got the ring camera. it is supposed to have a long battery life, but what they dont tell you is that in reality it only lasts about a month if you keep the motion detectors on and get any decent amount of foot traffic, say 10 people walking by per day.

last night at 4:45 am the ring starts ringing my phone because the battery is low again. apparently there is not a way to turn off this notification either. of course, with it waking me up like that, i had a hard time falling asleep again. i have since turned on bedtime mode on my phone, which is supposed to suppress all messages, but lets see if it works for the ring

Not so much an irk as an observation about a petty annoyance.

The forecast low this PM is 10 deg F...the coldest it's been since I first moved to this area way back in 1969.

Not really a problem, as I've lived in the Northeast and Midwest, and know how to deal with cold.

The "irk" is that the 1930s-built house I'm in, originally built as a railroad crew-change bunkhouse, has for all intents and purposes zero insulation.

And when it's this cold outside, I can't get it any warmer than 55 deg F inside in the daytime, 40s at night. Brrrrrr.

My sisters house had terrible heating and they installed a wood burning stove. In that room it would be so hot and the rest was freezing

  9. I am on week 5 of my covid cough and feeling really tired and weak. i went to the doctor and they told me i have pneumonia and probably bronchitis and that my lungs are still very enflamed from covid.

that is not the worst part of this. since i work from home, i rarely leave my house normally. i get my groceries delivered and i have amazon prime, so i rarely need to go out. anyway, right before i caught covid, i went to 3 places. it was my wedding anniversary and my wife wanted to do these 3 things. one was to go to a specialty food store, one was to get a nice meal for our anniversary and one was to get our new kittens pictured with a santa that the shelter was putting on.

i found out that the person running the picture with santa for the cats and dogs had covid with symptoms, knew they had covid, but kept the event on anyway because she didnt want to disappoint the other people at the shelter group. she never told anyone in the shelter group that she had covid until after. we only found out because my sister in law is friends with the person that started the shelter and that lady told her. my sister in law questioned why she would go to the event, knowing she had covid. then told her that my wife and i got really sick from it.

    her response. it happens.

what is worse, the lady with the covid was there taking the pictures, so she was the person that interacted with everyone because she needed to get everyone's email addresses to send the pictures to them.

nearly everyone has a cell phone with a camera. it is not like this lady needed to be there. anyone else could have done it. shoot, if i had my choice, i would have volunteered to do the pictures over getting covid. also, there is no end in sight either. the cough is not getting any better and neither is the weakness.

i hope there is a special place in the afterlife this lady

  10. This is silly but I'm ready to throw my phone

I have covid and it's not been good to me. I haven't slept in about a week. I finally fall asleep and my phone decided it needed to ring the notifications and woke me up. It was Google maps asking me to review longhorn.which is actually one of the three places that I could have caught covid from.

Now, I'm awake again, still exhausted but now ready to scream

Today's irk is finding that dads personal toiletries that I bought for him to use while he is hospitalized are now missing since they moved him from one room to another. He says that someone threw them out because they said he didn't need them. I asked the nurses who are caring for him about the whereabouts but no one seems to know..😡 I'm hoping its a mix up and they are sitting somewhere. If not..🤔 it's time to to do a little venting.. Boy I could use someone to take all this stress out on.. 😆 BTW dad will be coming home tomorrow (sat). I was up last night till 2:30am breaking down the antique bed and cleaning my moms old room to be ready for the in-home hospice bed coming today. The bedroom move is so dad will be closer to the main bathroom and kitchen instead of way down the hall farthest away. At least the bleeding has stopped. Still don't know the cause and probably never will due to his aorta slowly closing up. Better days ahead? I hope but I have my reservations. I'm just glad he'll be at home for Christmas.

my father in law had a really nice navy ring that he wore all the time. that was "lost" while he was in the hospital before his passing
