This is a pretty big project for me to take on. I started doing commission builds/replicas as a side gig for a while. This one is for a good buddy of mine and his business out in California. I'm honored he wanted me to do this for him.
Started put with an original 70's release Ertl kit, hacked off the rear frame section and swapped it out for an italeri air ride set up. Shortened the fuel tanks, moved the air cleaner and battery boxes back slightly, Italeri Cummins NTC350 swap, and custom made decals. I am still waiting for the new rims, hydraulic tank, and rear 1/2 fenders to arrive next week. After that, I'll be moving right along on this project! Here's what I've got so far, long ways to go yet.

Well done. These Fords of that era were some of the best looking trucks ever built. I was wondering if this kit can be built as a day cab.
Yes it sure can be built as a daycab. There are resin daycab panels out there, and you can always modify the kit sleeper panel to work

No that's not a typo! This is my rendition of a what if. "What if Peterbilt made an aerodyne style sleeper?" I love how it turned out! It's not my best build, but I do really love how it looks, how unique it is, and how it sits. Definitely turned out better than expected. Here's the mod list in no particular order: Peterbilt sleeper passenger/driver side panels, superliner front/rear panels, and roof. All heavily modified to fit together properly. Swapped a Cummins from the Freightliner FLC kit. 3d printed exhaust stacks, whale tail, mudflap hangers, hood ornament, turn signals, cab/sleeper light panels, rear 1/4 fenders, hub odometer, and the Peterbilt oval rims. Moebius tires. Amt 5th wheel assembly. Rubber mudflaps. Custom made decals. Enjoy!

How are you building these so fast and so good!? I know you just introduced a couple of trucks last week which were also fantastic!
I really like this one, the overall finish is top notch and I like what you did with the frame. The glossy red finish fits perfect. I always thought semi gloss or flat finish would look better for the frame, but this really looks superb.
And all of the upgrade pieces do make the truck look quite special including the exhaust pipe ends spitting outwards! Nice job~
How am I building them so fast? Once I get in the groove, I can build for hours on end lol plus I guess it's just experience building these kits from memory over time! I appreciate the kind words too. These rigs aren't as good quality as yours, but I'd say they're pretty close😎

Haha barely any space left where I am, I'll be getting more soon though thankfully!

Finished up today! This one was quite a challenge. Had to repaint the bumper 4 times, trim/shave the cab mounts many times to fit properly, and a whole lot of other little problems. But it's all done now and it looks better than I expected! Here's the mod list per usual in no particular order= fully plumbed chassis, scratchbuilt air dryer assembly and fuel filter lines. 3d printed: exhaust stacks, 2 hole rear rims, lollipop lights, sleeper lights, bumper, and hood ornament. Modified Italeri Peterbilt steer rims, rubber mudflaps, and custom made decals. Enjoy!

The weathering looks great!
I also like your subtle changes such as placement of the battery box on the frame as opposed to under the cab. All in all, good looking build Al.
I do that on all my w925 builds! The tanks being offset is something I don't like. So I make sure they're even on both sides. Just a little pet peeve of mine lol

But talk about some bravery! I can't attempt something this like, but I see what you did here. It feels like still wet getting out of mud/dirty snow mixture.
Alaskan theme works for being tough and dirtied up performing its duty!
This is my first time ever weathering! Ever single other build I have ever done is shiny. So this was definitely a learning experience for me!

Also finished this one up the same day I finished my Alaskan Hauler project. It's 99.95% done since I'm still waiting for one small part to arrive, but it's good enough to post now! This one is a commission build for an old coworker of mine. So sadly, I won't be keeping it. But, mod list as follows: 3d printed daycab panel, exhaust stacks, rear fenders, and front bumper. Lowered a few mm's, scratchbuilt deckplate and shifter.

Almost seems like you are coming out with excellent builds pretty much every other day!
This was no exception, fantastic looking 359 and I like how you mixed parts to bring out a better looking truck!
It sure seems like it lol I have some freetime now so I'm finally getting caught up on builds!

Thank you everyone, can't say it enough!!

Finished this one up the same day I finished my Superliner project. This hardly ever happens when I finish 2 builds in 1 day, super cool when it works out like that! Anyways, build list as follows: stretched frame about 1 3/4", fully scratchbuilt body/tool boxes/latches. AMT Mack DM800 rear rims, Italeri Peterbilt 378 mudflap hangers, rear fenders, and exhaust tips. And a mix of other scratch built pieces/3d printed pieces. Enjoy!

Wrapped up this beauty today. It came out absolutely perfect! Some flaws, but I won't mention them lol. As always, comments welcome, here's the mod list in no order: Testors pure gold frame, krylon black and metallic clear coat body. Swapped a 12.7 60 series Detroit in it. AMT Mack DM800 front axle and rear working suspension. Fully functioning u joints, and fully plumbed frame and engine air lines and electrical lines. Peterbilt oval rims with hub odometer, and scratchbuilt auto air inflation system. 3d printed front and rear hubs. Amt mercury sleeper and 5th wheel assembly. AMT Mack badges, and AITM pewter metal hood ornament. Plus a whole lot of other goodies. The list goes on and on. Enjoy!

Nice work, really like the color and the added verbal details. Tell me, what is the source of the third-pusher axle, as i am planning on one of these on a GMC General one of these days? Thanks, AB
Thanks guys! The lift axle is a modified amt peterbilt steer axle, springs are modified from an unknown trailer kit in my parts bin!

I'm truly flattered everyone, thank you for such the kind words! This is actually my first paystar dump truck I've done, and I decided I wanted it to be different than the others I've seen. I'm glad everyone likes it! 😊

Just wrapped this one up tonight! It was a great kit, everything fell into place and I didn't have any major issues to report on. Here's the mod list in no particular order: rear axles moved forward 1/8", reconfigured/relocated the fuel tank/battery boxes, aftermarket decals, 3d printed turn signals/exhaust, rubber mudflaps all around, modified the body to be a smooth side and look more modern, added a tag axle with 3d printed rims and moebius tires, italeri rims/tires on the drives and steers, along with other little odds and ends! Plus a cool mural in the bed, enjoy!

Thanks as usual for your comments! I just wanted to build a simple work truck that's in a fleet, but has some aftermarket goodies on it. Nothing over the top!

Finished this up tonight. Quite a challenging kit, but I plan on doing another one or 2 in the near future to get comfortable with these pesky Mack's. The mod list is as follows: air ride suspension from a 352 pacemaker, front axle shimmed a few mm higher, aftermarket exhaust stack, amt diamond reo rear 1/4 fenders, and some other odds and ends. Enjoy!

Nice haul with those IH trucks! The orange one is the Paystar 5000 logger. I wish I could fine the S-Series rig that cheap!
I scored that complete paystar 5000 logger, complete s series, the built up paystar 5000 dump truck, and fire truck for $55 at the show! I haven't fully examined them yet, but they don't seem like glue bombs except for the dump truck.

Absolutely gorgeous work! It came out looking amazing

I'll be there, really looking forward to it after a 4 year hiatus!

This is absolutely fantastic! Not a lot of people rework the front axle width and placement, I'm glad you did. Awesome progress, and welcome to the big rig community!!

Replica Build International Transtar 2
in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Posted
There will be many updates this coming week! The last pieces to this build are showing up Monday or Tuesday! The radio antenna was an after thought. I saw it on his truck and decided I should add it for extra realism lol
It's a very nice build, same with the 4070A. They practically fall together and the detail is really incredible!
