Looks great, like something Bertone would have done, especially the somewhat Montreal-esque headlight eyelids.

I like the 2X3bbl Weber carb setup too, which could be done in reality with some machine work.

The stock one- or two-throat manifolds were milled off and Crown Mfg. 3-throat castings substituted.

Thanks Bill.  Kinda makes the twin, single barrel Solex's on my Beetle look puny!

Ralph who?  Thank for the comment on the paint.  I have become a big fan of Tamiya spray paint.  Looking forward to 'clearing' it.

Beautiful color and both engines look really good!

Thanks Carl,  It's really one in the same engine.  I took a photo of it from both sides and with and without the air cleaners.  I am holding off on attaching the cleaners permanently until the engine is in the car.  Not sure if the engine will fit through the bottom of the body with the filters attached!

  4. Greetings All,

Starting to spend more evenings at my model workbench now that my VW 1/1 scale project is completed.  500 miles and no issues!  Good to have my old friend back on the road.

Purchased 2 resin pieces from Air-Trax last year and I am starting the 'Bertone' Corvair concept car.  I am a bit of a Corvair fan and have amassed a few books and magazines on them but, nowhere have I found this particular Bertone concept.  That includes an internet search.  No matter though, I still like the styling.  I am using an AMT '69 Corvair kit for parts.

The 'kit' from Air-Trax is the body, decklid, taillights, front turn signals, and bumpers, (not chromed).    After cleaning up a few small casting imperfections, sizing up the interior tub, cut out headlight lenses and the window 'glass', I gave it a primer coat and used Tamiya 'Metallic Green'.  Going to use some BMF and then give it a coat with Tamiya clear.   The engine is from the AMT kit with carb setup from '3dscaleparts', (Ebay), and air cleaners from 'Scale Production', (Internet).  More photos to follow.......Thanks for looking!

  5. Greetings All,

It has been a long summer.  Visiting aging parents in Florida and aging in-laws in Arizona have taken its toll.  (All are in Memory Care.)  As most of you know, it is a sad reminder that time is nobody's friend.  My one bright spot this summer is that I have finally completed my 'biggest model car project' ever.  (My wife's words, not mine.)

I've had this '73 beetle since 1985 and used it as a daily driver for many years.  15 years in Florida and about 6 here in Alabama.  Took it partially apart to do some 'minor work' and wound up taking it totally apart because I wanted to build it back 'My Way'.  Work, family life, and everything else got in the way, so........there it sat, in a 'million pieces'.  After 15 years of on and off work it's finally done!

Oh-yea...........it WILL be my daily ride again.  However, since I'm retired now, I don't have that much 'daily driving' anymore!

  6. Greetings All,

After a brief pause to visit family in Florida, I thought posting one of my older 'works' would be interesting.  This is at least 27 years old.  I built this from an old Pyro kit for a VW model contest that was part of a big Volkswagen car show held in central Florida.  The show has been going on for about 35 years.  I believe they only had the 'VW model contest' for one year and it was stopped.  I anticipated a lot of really good, well detailed entries, so I wanted to do something really unique.  I've always been a fan of 'cut-away' display cars, so I gave it a shot.  Of course, my detailing skills have gotten a little better over time and if I remember correctly,....I didn't give myself a lot of time before I decided to enter the contest.  I did a VW bus a few years later that came out slightly better.  That one never went into a contest.                          Hope you enjoy the photos!

Anybody know any place that makes typical under hood decals. Like Caution Fan

Terry, you may like 'Speedway Decals'.  It's under the Fotki website.  Check under the 'Misc. Decals'.  'It has the Caution-Fan decal too!  I use their decals all the time.

  8. Since I've been messing with my background scenery, I thought I might put out another of my older 1/32 pieces.  This is a 'Revell of Great Britain' kit dated from 1963, but it seems the original issue goes back to the early 1950's!  Quite a few of these little boogers were not meant to be detailed very much.  The bodies were molded in left and right sides so........the interiors were very bare and putting in window glazing was a challenge.  Then there was the issue of filling in the seam that ran front to back!  I cut the roof off this one and built it, then attached the finished roof section.

    Hope you like the pics!

Worlds first Donk ?  I like it. Nice work Joe.

Thanks Ray,  wasn't too sure what you meant by 'Donk' until I looked it up!  (No, I don't think so).   However, in some 'pick-up truck circles', it is considered the Grand Dad of the pick-up truck.  IH started building it as the 'Auto Buggy' in 1907.  It could be had with 2 or 3 rows of seats or just a front seat with a flat bed section in the rear.  In 1912 IH decided to build just the truck version and renamed it the 'Auto Wagon' and continued it until 1917.  I'm not really a truck/pick-up truck enthusiast, but I think of it as a very important part of automotive history.

Very nice built. I didn´t find the manufacturer and type on the internet, only a company named International Motor Car in England.

Thanks Hanjo,  The model was made originally by 'Highway Pioneers', (Revell), here in the U.S.  It's an older 1/32 scale kit.  It is a model of a 1910/11 International Harvester Auto Wagon.  International Harvester is an Illinois, (U.S.A.), based company.

You can still find them on Ebay.  Not to expensive.

    Really Neat Build.

    And, Handsomely Finished.

    What Kit/Scale?

Thanks Alan,  It is a 'Highway Pioneers' 1/32 scale kit.  It's an older kit but they do pop up on Ebay occasionally.  Not too pricey.  Check out my reply to 'Mittagskind' and 'cobraman'.
