  1. Finished this, other than not sure of putting the hubcaps and skirts on the kit. Color really does not show up well in photos. It is painted Boyd's Ice Blue Pearl, then the Testor's Clear to Purple flip on it topped off with Omni urethane clear. The purple shows up a lot more in certain lighting, other light it looks really washed out. I kept the car box stock and was using up colors I had laying around on the rest of the kit. Interior is Tamiya white pearl with blue pinstriping. Engine is pavo purple, undercarriage, orient silver base, testors gloss black on frame, different blues over silver for shocks, wheels are surf turquoise.
  2. There is a resin 72, forget who did it and they have been starting to pop up on Ebay again. I got this for a reasonable price, I think with shipping around $25. Pretty nice casting, need to have bumpers plated, Alclad or paint to match body.
  3. I have owned both, a 70 Super Bee and currently a 70 RT. Both have the body color between the bumper sections. The piece that is painted is a sheet metal piece over the chrome bumper. I am sure if cars were ever in an accident this was not replaced. From everything I ever researched, all Super Bee and RT had this, all literature shows it. When you talk to people with one of these cars that does not have it is when you hear about it being optional. There is no fender tag code for this so I really doubt it was an option. To go along with this, the bottom of the front valance is supposed to have a trim piece, missing on many of these cars and most if not all have wheel lip moldings. Dodge line was more upscale then Plymouth. Road Runners do not have wheel lip moldings or chrome marker lights, Dodges do. Interesting fact, notice a 70 Superbird marker lights next time you look at one. The front fenders on Superbirds are actually Dodge Coronet fenders. The marker lights for Dodges are chrome, so the front marker light housings on Superbirds are chrome and the back ones are painted like a Road Runner. This makes it more difficult to buy some parts for my RT as you very rarely ever see front fenders or marker lights listed as Coronet items for 70, they are always Superbird so the $ go up.
  4. You got the part right about what was important and the award is not it. Having fun, meeting people, learning some new tricks are the reasons you should go to any show, judged or not. Same issues with 1:1 cars, I always tell people that are upset at shows I judge that if you spent all that time and money just to win a $10 trophy, you got into the wrong hobby. Same goes with model cars. Remeber it is a hobby first! Or should be.
  5. Just a guess, but are you working on the 57 Ford on the cover of Hot Rod? I would like to get those decals too if he makes them for you, let me know.
  6. Was looking at some of the parts this person is selling on Ebay and they look familiar. Wanted to get the pro street tubs. Anyone get parts from this Castenparts person and if so, how was delivery and quality? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Resin-Pro-Street-Back-Half-Chassis-W-Tubs-/221309191326?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item33870e449e
  7. That is awesome. Really 1 of a kind.
  8. Other shots to show color of real car.
  9. It is a factory color, or at least Scale Finishes version of it. The color code is 501. Here is the real car I was trying to replicate.
  10. Finished this last week. It is the Monogram 1/24 BelAire kit. It is painted using Scale Finishes Regatta Blue Metallic and Testor's white enamels. No clear coat was used. Bare metal foil and a Morgan automotive distirbutor finishes the details. White walls were painted using Vinyl white paint.
  11. I think good source to get the mirrors is the 68 Vette 2n1 kit. The custom mirrors are close and you do no have to trash the kit becuase the stock Vette mirror is also in the kit, and yes you get 2 sport looking mirrors. I used these on my Gremlin kit. Awesome job on the 71 Charger. I have seen the real car in person and I think you hit a home run on the model looking like it.
  12. I have the 1/20 AMX to build and a Rebel Machine. This is my 71 Hornet SC360, Missing Link resin and 69 Rambler donor used.
  13. Color is actually called Samoan Coral. If you got on a Ford, and it is rare on that, it was called Bittersweet. Mercury had it as well, ver uncommon. Is usually a little more pink to it. Here is a link to some cars taht color. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0PDoQ2zl0xSbhUAM_qjzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBxbGdlMTFzBHNlYwNmcC1hdHRyaWIEc2xrA3ZpZXdtb3Jl?p=1964+samoan+coral+thunderbird
  14. Great show! Was nice to meet people. Jeff396, sorry I did not see you there. Thanks again for the engine that was in the 71 Hornet on the Orphan table. Here are some pictures I took. http://public.fotki.com/Kevin60brd/three-rivers-2013/
  15. Finished this up today. Kit is 1/32 in scale with no engine detail. I built it box stock but tried a few new things. First time I have bare metal foiled the details first, painted and then used a toothpick with lacquer thinner to clean them back up. Car had no chrome parts, so the bumpers were done up in Wisconsin and the rest of the parts like grille, hub caps, mirrors, wipers and tail light were done with Alclad chrome. Color is Boyd's Ice Blue pearl with Omni urethane clear. Top is Duplicolor Low Gloss Black enamel. Bare metal foil for all trim.
  16. Here is some inspiration for you from the Mopar Nationals this year.
  17. Couple of projects I am working on and started with the same color so wanted to show them both. The Datsun is 1/32 scale and will be boxt stock/curbside. Cars were both painted with Boyd's Ice Blue Pearl. The 48 Ford I wanted to try something different and cleared with the newer Clear to Purple Flip Flop of Testor's. Not sure I am thrilled with the results. Car does have purple hue to it, tough to see in pictures. Looks better in flourescent or low light, get it in bright light and it gets a washed out look. Hard to see the differences as much in photos. I ended up clearing both with Omni urethane clear. One word of caution on using the flip clear, I sprayed a spoon in low gloss black enamel and then used the flip to purple clear hoping to get a cool subtly effect, instantly turned the black to a really cool shade of purple, no flip flop, cool metallic purple.
  18. Welcome! If you ar looking for a group that shares the same interest try the North Coast Automotive Modelers. We meet first and thrid Tuesdays each month. Next meeting is 9/17 and we meet at Garflield Hts. Civic Center. Come by and check out a meeting. Bring some models. http://northcoastautomotivemodelers.webs.com/
  19. Someone did cast it for a while, but I do not know who. I bought this one at NNL East 2 years ago. I know Bandit Resin makes the 70 GTX and Missing Link makes the 70 Road Runner grill so you can probably make the Roadrunner from the Bandit kit. You do not get an interior tub with either kit and the bumpers were not chrome when I picked both of these up. The Bandit kit is makred $40, but that was probably 4 or 5 years ago and was picked up when he was at a show. The quality looks good. I have not dealt with him on line so I am do not know how long he takes to ship or if he still makes them. Just offering this to let you know what you might find on the internet or at your next show. Here are some pictures.
  20. Add the Cleveland Indians still using 'offensive' names and advertising. Some colleges have changed names and some have not, probably depends on money. Doubt Florida will ever drop the Seminoles, but some of the MAC schools have already changed, I think Eastern Mich and Miami of Ohio have dropped their Indian names.
  21. Welcome! I live in North Royalton, OH. If you ever want to check out the North Coast Automotive Modleres club, we meet 1st and 3rd Tuesdays each month in Garlfield Hts., it is only 5 minutes off the highway. CHeck outour website. http://northcoastautomotivemodelers.webs.com/
  22. No "Camping" trip this year??????? Hope you can go. I am sure Mike will not be going this year with me, the twins are due in September so we mat not see him for a while!
  23. Here are some pictures of a super restored supercharged one going for auction http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=DA1011-114932
  24. Looks great. Are the wire wheels really detailed like that on the 1:1 cars? Looks nice and not trying to knock your model, I was just curious if that is how the real cars are.
