  1. As there seems to be about a dozen different 'Community Builds' and a 'Jairus' challenge going on, I figured it would be appropriate to join the fray with something different (but so alike!). This is to gauge interest in a Ford Fox-Body community build. It wouldn't start until sometime mid-summer (July 1st or so) and would be open to all of Fords Fox cars (1978 Grenada/Zephyr/Fairmont platform), 1982-85 LTD LX, 1979-93 Mustang (including the 1984-86 SVO and the various McLaren/ASC variants), 1979-86 Mercury Capri (again, ASC and McLarens welcome), Lincoln MkVIIs, 1980-88 Cougars, 1980-88 Thunderbirds.......you know, 'those' cars. Any takers? Post here and maybe we can get something going (and maybe it will force me to actually finish a build!). List of participants so far: futurattraction : 1978 Futura Pro Stock (scratchbuilt) davezinn : 1979 Cobra and 'Vanilla Ice' 5.0! Jordan White : Revell 1993 Cobra Wagoneer81 : 87 Thunderbird (turbocoupe converted to a V8) highway : 82 Earnhart racing 'Bird Abell82 : 93 LX Fletch : some sort of cat or bird Eric Stone : 79 Cobra modeler : Maybe a 1979 Mustang Cobra with EFI conversion NJ-Wayne : 93 Cobra twin-turbo and a 79 Cobra 2.5T stroker Tony T : 85 SVO Mustang and #1 Whistler Mustang T/A effort Casey429 : 93 Mustang Cobra (old build resurrection) Harold : 84 Thunderbird Mark Brown: 93 Cobra tube chassis car or 85 SVO (whoever gets there first!) 3men2s: 83GT (custom) gregbbear: IMSA Fox (Whistler Mustang) Jeff Johnston: IMSA Motorcraft Mustang and 1979 Pace Car wheelman: 1993 Cobra GTMust: Cafe Racer Mustang (Monogram kit) whale392 : 1983 Mustang GLX Convert and a 1991 Mustang GT Hatch (model of his real car) Finish time frame HAS BEEN EXTENDED from Jan 01-2011 to Jul 01-2011. Closed as a CBP thread as of July 1-2011. REOPENED AS AN OPEN-ENDED FORD FOX HAVEN AS OF JULY 1-2001. NO END DATE.
  2. Stalled projects; we all have them.

So what is it about the vast majority of modelers (be it armor, ship, aircraft, or scale auto builders) that lends them to more than one project going at once and the inevitable stalling of some projects? Is it a slight case of A.D.D or O.C.D? Do we have a need to tinker versus actually finish? Is it the newness of a build wearing off and the siren call of the next possibility calling us from the current project? I ask partly out of curiousity, and partly out of knowing my problem (and wishing to confirm the fears I have in myself/my abilities). What do you all think? Photographic evidence would be cool too. my below pics are but just a SMALL sampling of stalled projects. you could call this FOX Row......as they are all FOX Mustangs by MPC/Revell. Boxes of FOX kits. , , , , I have so many it is sickening. Not counting the threads I have here, I have hundreds of pics of stalled projects. Maybe this coming year I will pick up some of these forgotton builds and get them to the 'Under Glass' section. Feel free to join in with pics of your stalled projects (I don't want to be the ONLY kid in this camp!).
  3. Ok, time for the REAL truth to come forward. Of all the people who said they would build/buy the C300, here is the gathering spot to PROVE it. Let's see them all!
  4. I got mine a few days ago, and of course had to rifle through it. Some pros: good cast detail and parts count, very full box, great decal sheet. Some cons: non-chromed fuel tanks (this is a little thing I know, but I remember the originals having chromed tanks), some casting flash (to be expected for a kit of this vintage), (to me) an odd parts breakdown (how they were seperated). All in all, a good kit and a welcome re-issue. I have my order in for a second kit so that I might build an extended sleeper version. Thanks to AMT for re-issuing this kit.
  5. OK guys, since considerable interest was shown in the FOX CBP/open ended thread for inclusion of the FOX4 cars/SN95 platform, I have decided to open a second thread for these cars. All SN95s are welcome here; 1994-2004 Mustangs and their derivatives (Cobras, Cobra-Rs, Bullitts, Mach 1s, GTSs, Saleens, Roushes). Go for it guys, make this your new SN95 home!
  6. I am wanting to convert the 1956 Nomad wagon back into a 4 door 6 passenger wagon, but was told the roof height and length was different between the Nomad and the 4 door units. I am starting with the 1/25th scale Revell 56 Nomad kit and a second roof section from a Revell 1956 Del Ray kit. Any hard, fast data on this subject? Are they different heights/lengths?
  7. Turning the Coupe

Since I was one of the most vocal of the 'bad guys' group on this 90LX Coupe, and there are those out there who just love to bump gums about how 'I won't let it go' (you know who you are), maybe I need to 'prove' that I put my 'money where my mouth is' Huh? With the few other threads going here (those who also 'put their money where their mouth is'), it is past time I do the same. This thread will be my 'un-chop' ans 'fix' some of the nasty this kit body has (note I said SOME). Will it be the 'Perfect LX Coupe'? Nope, as no 'perfect' model exists. Will I attempt to get it a lot closer? YUP. So, for those who wish, you can tune in. For those who still want to hate me and hold grudges, you can tune in too. Should be fun either way. Since I now have my CASE of them, I can get started. pics will be up tomorrow afternoon (as I am not home at the moment and Photobucket and my phone do not play well). First Coupe build will be a Calypso Green version with either Gray or Black interior.
  8. Turning the Coupe

Cut the brake booster off and will be filling the hole. A 99 Cobra model will be giving up its Hydroboost brakes, drivetrain, and IRS/exhaust for this Coupe. With minimal angle change (not done here yet) the 99 Cobra exhaust fits nicely to the Coupe. There is a 99 Cobra IRS cradle sitting up there as well, behind the Corvette ZR1 wheels. The wheels will get a lip job and will be used on this build too.
  9. Turning the Coupe

Ok, body #2. Removed the door window casings and the quarter windows. Cut the top, added .060" styrene to the legs, and glued the roof back on. I will be adding the needed .080" styrene to the quarter windows and door window casings and gluing them back in after the rest of the major body work is done. Even though my measurements say the roof length was dead-nuts on, I went ahead and shortened the roof skin just enough to get everything to line back up. I also took .080" styrene and glued/shaped it to the rear lip of the rear wheel well opening and used .404" at its front edge. The rear bumper has also been shortened about .020"-030".
  10. Turning the Coupe

About time I get home and am able to show some of what I have done. I have 3 Coupes going right now, with a 4th cut into a Hatch. Work is not the best, nor is the photography. Took the roof off right above the window moldings (after removing the door window casings, to be glued back in when the major body work is done). Looks a bit rough right now, but it will be OK once all of the work is done to finish it up. [/url Adding the styrene blocks to the front and rear of the rear wheel well openings. Got a bit carried away and had to re-add/sand material there. This is the first body. Second body to follow.
  11. Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.

Looking good, Mike. I am doing the trunk right now with some .040" half round.
  12. 1975 Dodge Dart Sport by MPC

So, this combined with the AMT 71 Duster kit= Nice 75 Dart!
  13. Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.

Mike, yours is looking good. I really need to get home so I can post pics of my junk builds!
  14. Missouri State Highway Patrol '90 Mustang LX

Engine is looking good, G. I have an FHP SSP in mind when I get all of the bodies corrected (have the Jetsonic lightbar/siren and decals waiting!)
  15. Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?

Emerald Green? I am playing with mine as well, but won't be able to post pics until I get home).
  16. Revell 1990 Mustang LX 5.0

All 4 of my current Fox Chassis' have Gray primer with a heavy dose of body color overspray. The 88 Coupe I started into the FOX world with was the same way, and the 85 Coupe I just picked up is also Gray with body colored overspray.
  17. Turning the Coupe

You do that. I'll even have the press kits and banners ready.
  18. Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.

You are right Jason. But for those who do want to spend the time to fix this Revell body,at least there are some examples to follow. My first attempt to fix the un-chopped roof was stopped mid-way because Mike here showed a better way than what I was doing. That body (of mine) has since lost its roof and trunk section and is getting a Hatch roof and section grafted on. Mike, thanks again for showing a simpler way to do this. I am using it (with modification) on another body to get the roof dialed in. Maybe I need to start a work-in-progress thread too (or just start it down in the Fox Chassis Community Build thread)?
  19. Roger, last word was (barring any corrections of the body) about this time next year for the drag version. Wayne, I have quite a few pics of the U2 chase Stangs along with the CHP units that served as stand-ins until the USAF ordered their SSPs (they were 85-86 SSPs). And unlike the Corvette (that started out getting its' tail handed to it because of it being so nose-heavy) which was designed from the ground up as a 'sports car', the 1964.5 Mustang was based on the falcon and was designed as a sporty vehicle, NOT a sports car. It was a flashy Falcon. It was only after Lee Iacocca asked Shelby to get involved with the Mustang program did it evolve into a 'sports car'. The Mustang did better in its classes than the 'Vette did for some time. It was only after GM finally took the Vette seriously that it evolved into the car it is. The Mustang has always been a 'peoples car' for the American market, and even today the Vette has to watch its tail when you put the upper echelon of Mustang against even the upper echelon of Vette. For a car that started as a sports car, it could be doing a LOT better at it. It takes a C5R-C6R to make it competitive on the world stage, where a lowly Baer Racing prepped 93 Mustang sat on the POLE of the 'World Challenge' against Vettes, Ferraris, and Porsches. (then again, maybe I am a bit biased too!)
  20. Kitbash 87 T Bird

The Pro-Stock version is (ok, was) a bit nicer than this offering as the body proportions are closer to the subject matter. You will enjoy it!
  21. Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.

No Mike, I am honoring a promise to Ed and Revell. When I first got wind of this project, I swore I would buy a case (which is 12) and so when they hit the shelves (flawed or not) I stood by my word (pre-order notwithstanding!) and bought the case. Now, I have a few to play with and a few going out in trades! With that said, I am building two with the modified roof height, one as an LX Hatch, and one OOB to compare the corrected car to. Even my girlfriend dipped into my case to grab one and try to build it OOB.
  22. Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.

Mike, I see you did yours just a bit different, but with the same results, a much better looking roof. I cut the door window casings out, cut the roof right at the top of the windows, added the material, shortened the roof the required amount, and glued the roof back on. I am in the process of making the drip railing right now. Then again, when you buy a DOZEN of them (putting MY money where MY mouth is, as it was put) makes it easy to experiment with. Also, having the 1:1 does make it easy when reference is right there. Now, how about those who didn't step up and do, now that TWO paths to fixing it have been mentioned/shown?
  23. Revell 1990 Mustang LX 5.0

Time consuming for sure, Ed. The part is only somewhere close to $45, but it is the labor of having to pull the seats, center console, dash, and the core box itself that gets crazy expensive! If you do get pics Ed, could they be posted in the LX 5.0 reference thread? Edit: also take note, the convertible will have chassis braces installed that are not on the Hatch or Coupe.
  24. Kitbash 87 T Bird

Once the touch-ups are done, it should be pretty close to finished shouldn't it? Is this a kit you could see yourself building multiples of?
  25. How about building it as the U2 chase car, all Dark Blue with the 10-holes painted Dark Blue with satin Silver center caps?
