  1. This is going to be great to watch, you have my vote for the black cover as well. Where do you get kits and parts in this scale?
  2. Nice looking bit of work so far. I dig the rims and hood. Ever thought of chopping the roof? IMVHO some tuners could benifit from a roof chop, to me they look out of scale dropped without being chopped. Either way your doing nice work.
  3. There is too little information in that article to make any REAL informed decision. That little bit of info could be spun into what ever "they" want people to believe. Sorry I just down buy it.
  4. Hi Lyn; Although I'm new to MCM, your situation sounds interseting. I'd be intersted in flying down from TO (Toronto) if your fathers collection is for sale. I'm a builder and would love to see what you have, do you know if there is many if any 1/12 scale kits. Sincerely, Curtis

Nice work on the chopped top, you've come so far you need to finish it.
  6. Nice looking ride, I like the Gun metal gray. Given the weight to power ratio and placement of the engine that little Vega might just handle like a go-kart. I've been watching your WIP, you really struggled with the power plant, nice choice with the Wankle, what was the doner kit for the engine?
  7. lol, I've done it, but you have to mist the lacquer, building up layers. IMHO it's not worth the effort. I've also sprayed Tamiya lacquer over Tamiya acrylic, on helmets and goalie masks, with the same results. The lacquer is too hot for it an "eats" away at the acrylic. Although on a helmet and goalie mask it's worth the effort, (I learned the hard way) the lacquer is so tough I've see work I did 10yrs ago on golie masks still look pretty good considering the element they are used in. Tamiya lacquer is super tough IMHO.
  8. This looks very intersting, I'm really intreged to see how your going to be able to complete this. No disrespect intended with that comment, turly. I like where this is going.
  9. lol, it might. Kind of like stuffing an Aliston in an early '70s 240Z.
  10. I've had this sitting around in the kit box for about 10yrs. It's the Tamiya 1/12 312T4 kit, I only managed to get as far as completeing the engine and tranny assembly before it was boxed up. I decided to take a look in the box and found the completed engine (which I had forgotten about) and thought I'd put it up on my shelf and aslo share it here with you guys. Maybe seeing it sitting up on the shelf will inspire me to get back to finishing the kit. The screens on the intake stacks need to be redone, they're not to the standard a 1/12 Tamiya build should be.
  11. Although I've never used a dremel tool to achive the "worn" look on tires I'm not sure if it would give the same results as the following technique. I've only ever "scrubed" the tires with 80grit paper to get the worn race look. Always wanting to get the fresh hot lap look I finally came up with the following technique. With a little practice I was able to creat a very real looking hot lap tire. Steps 1. Start with 120grit paper and sand the hell out of a spare tire so as to acumulate tire "dust". 2. Mix white glue and semi gloss black acrylic paint. 3. On a flat smooth surface spread a small amount of the "dust" 4. Next using a flat wide brush, brush on a thin coating of the paint/glue. 5. Now roll the tire in the "dust" covering it completely, working quickly roll the tire on a smooth flat surface to embed the dust. 6. Repeat steps 4/5 until you achive the look you want. Finnishing step optional...you can also sand up different colour plastic and 200grit paper and sparingly sprinkle a very very tiny amount to give the tires the look of picking up "garbage and pebbles" while rolling through the pit garage or into the winners circle. For motorcycle tires you can do the same except you only do the edges so as to leave the smoother "not so worn" straight line wear mark down the center of the tire. Good luck
  12. Thanks everyone who posted a response for the warm welcome, I'll do my best to post work from time to time. But don't look for much to be finished, I tend to only mess around with mods here and there, i.e. chopped tops, engine builds, paint jobs, etc. Bill, I couldn't agree more with you regarding the good old days of Indy. If I had a hero it would be Smokey Unick, I should learn to spell his name properly. I've see a few of your builds, such as the charger, your skills are mad for only starting out, keep it going. Do you know of the shop called "Keiths Hobbies" up in Brooklyn, great shop, they used to be in Norht York on Young Street. If you haven't been make an effort to get up there it was a great shop in TO. As for the casting, great stuff Duke. By the time you reach my age you'll be a master. Post up some of your casting I'm sure everyone would be interested in seeing your work. voljeepx, re your wheels. I have never tried sculpting from scratch, but ya never know maybe I'll take a crack at those wheels some day. Feel free to remind me when I post up any progress of my casting experiance or PM just me. MikeMC, thanks man for the props. Gramp-xrds, I'll try to fit in. Thanks again everyone, glad to be here.
  13. So far Bill (thanks Bill) is the closest to my recolection, of what I can remember. Luke if you can find some box art that would be great, but I don't think it was 1/8 scale. That would have been huge from an 8-9yrs perspective. The colour purple has always been one of the out standing memories I've had of the kit, must have been molded in it. Thanks for the help guys. I guess my search will go on.
  14. That looks great, wacky but great
  15. lol, fat fingers. Thanks elan, I'll check it out. It's the 1/25 kit, not what I'm thinking of, thanks just the same.
  16. As a kid of 8 or 9 I remember building a large scale car kit. The problem is the type of car the kit was has eluded me forever. I remember the basic shape and the wheels being wire with knock off but that's about it. Until I saw Mr. Obsessive build I had very vague memories of what that kit was. Bills build has spured a memory of what that kit might have been. Do any of you life time builders over 40 possibly remember or know of a kit that was produced of the '63 Cougar II? Thanks for any input.
  17. Beautiful looking build, from the trim work to the paint, simply stunning. The wheels really set it off. Not wanting to high jack this thread I have a question in the General forum re this car.
  18. ...thought it's time I posted and say hi. First off let me say there is some REAL talent on this site, MCM is one of the sites I use for inspiration, mad skills here. My name is Curt I'm 42, I hale from Burlington, Canada, a town which is 45 min from Niagra Falls and 45min west of Toronto. I've been building on and off my whole life. Just got back on the bench in Jan '08. I've only managed to build about 10 kits since then. I tend build in fits and spurts, usually kit bashing and sctrach building. I may only build 1 out of 10 or so OOB. I like to build anything with an engine and wheels be it two, four or more. I'm currently getting very interested in casting resin parts. I have purchased an industrial vacum pump, and made a vacum camber. I'm just waiting to get my new work area set up until I start that craft. Oh and I tend to ramble. Anyway, I hope I can find a spot on MCM, I look forward to being more invovled. Here's a kit I finished back in Jan-Feb of this year. It started life as a Tamiya Honda F1 RA 272. I've always liked the old ways of The Indy 500, back when it was pretty much run what ya brung to make the field, the days of Smokey Unick (sp). So I thought I'd try building something different. The wheels and tires are from one of the Ferrari Tamiya kits, the rear wing is from a McLearn M8b kit, cut in half and a rear tail section added from a 1/72 Gee Bee kit. The end plates need to come off and be thinned out. The front wings are from some other 1/20 F1 kit, the nose section has been filled. I scribed panel lines into the body, and layed down the checkers by hand, (six times) then I shot the body with Spaz Stix Ultra chrome, it needs to be cleared and polished. Hope ya like it, any comments, positive or otherwise welcomed. The last pic is of a converted Tamiya Lotus T98 into the T99 via F1 Specialist decals.
  19. The paint is super, the engine looks top notch as well.
  20. Very cool, nice looking wheels. I look forward to watching this WIP. If you need more 1/16 parts contact this guy, www.herelart.com. He doesn't list any parts on his site, but be specializes in 1/16 drag parts. His work is simply amazing, I've been to his studio and seen first hand everything and more that is on his site.
  21. This is a great looking WIP, I really dig the style. Looking very forward to seeing it complete.
  22. I like your plan, don't forget to add a few dings here and there. I have the same kit, the Swamper tires are super accurate aren't they. What wheels are you using, they don't look like the kit wheels?
  23. Bravo. The headlights insprie thoughts of eyes over a Big ass mouth. The car looks like a seriouly grumpey old Large mouth Bass.
