  1. Prices never go down. You know that. The manufacturers might receive the raw materials at a lower price, but they never pass the benefit on. Most of the time they invest in upgrades to make the product better.
  2. I have only one unbuilt AMT kit and it has thus far eluded the search of my storage unit. I wanted to do that very thing Richard. A "Compario" if you will. I also wanted a stock grill and radiator so I didn't have to sand off the stupid electric fan molded in by Revell. Still sanding btw.
  3. I agree with Tim on the Cowl. The Revell kit is more correct. Overall profile is right on and even tho the rear wheel well recesses are too deep and maybe the arch slightly too high. It still doesn't detract from a nice hot rod. (It's a hot rod afterall.) Just wish the '32 Ford frame was more stock appearing with a banjo rear end. But maybe that's just me. We are modelers after all....
  4. You are better off watching eBay. Little to no chance Revell/Monogram will release any of those anytime soon. Only exception might be the 911 based simply on the fact that the 911 Porsche has been around for ages. And... get off my lawn!
  5. Aliens are real! But they are not extraterrestrial but inter-dimensional. Too much proof exists to deny THEY exist. That said, the fact that they exist dovetails nicely with the holy scriptures in the Bible. Just saying! That's all I am going to say since I don't want Harry to give me negative points or ban me for talking about Jesus.
  6. Yeah I feel your pain. For some reason the AMT Cougar kits tended to have more accurate chassis and engine compartment fender wells. But the '67-'68 Cougar kits are quite rare. Even if you had one... the wheelbase is longer than the Mustang. For my '68 Shelby kit on the shelf I put Revell's 1/25th '69 Super CJ body and chassis in the box for the future project. Haven't done any cutting yet but the chassis is much closer than what the vintage AMT molds show.
  7. I like it! Keep going and the devil will be in the details. I am working on a RM myself off and on. Painting the figures is taking longer than I thought... but a bus is worthless with out people in the seats. Or in your case, race cars on the ramps and tools on the rack. ;-)
  8. Before drawing up my Sketchpad for the January issue I considered using this kit as the basis. Went with the Revell '29 kits instead figuring that Brad would take the lead on the '61. But the more I look at the beautiful lines of this car I find myself considering it's flanks to be like "hallowed ground". A lot like trying to customize a 1968 Corvette, in that it CANNOT BE DONE! They are perfect as they stand! Even if the Ventura looks a little George Jetson. The 1961 Pontiac Ventura, as will a few other designs to me, remain a beautiful machine that need no improvement.
  9. Nice photos Tim. Good coverage and I hope you had something to do with this. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
  10. That is very nicely done! 10/10 if it was a box art model. Changing out some of the bits were an improvement to be sure. But what really excites me is the high quality photography. This guy has skill!
  11. Those poor Korean's did the best they could having never seen a real one. Could be a lot worse!
  12. Yup, it's in my hot little hands and looks GREAT! Don Wilson you did a great job building that Sketchpad concept and Mike Lomaka I love the '39 Chev truck idea! Bill Coulter and Curt Raitz both brought their "A" game this time. Some really great projects displayed in this issue along with NNL East coverage so... well worth getting a subscription if you don't already. Oh and one note. After receiving Model Cars since it's inception in the mid 90's... this issue marks the first time I have ever had a damaged cover arrive. Hardly worth noting but a tiny bit of the cover 3/16" by one inch bit just under my printed address label was torn and hanging there like a Florida voting ballot. Well, I tore it off like the man I am and read the issue cover to cover with no qualms. So, man up and read your issue when it arrives, regardless of the condition because we have the BEST bar none hobby magazine for the static scale model hobbyist in the world!
  13. You don't need a kit to get started. Car drawings are out on the Internet. Just down load and size it correctly. Then you just need some tools and beer!
  14. Very interesting that this should come up now. I tried hard to get interest in our Balsa wood proxy couple years ago and very few bothered to comment. The thread is down in the Slot Car section where all entrants hand carved from drawings balsa wood racers. Even tho they were only slot cars, most of them demonstrated higher quality details than many static models built today here on this very forum. Here are a few pictures of my entry if anyone is interested. And all the entries on the starting grid. Two three were from France, four from the states and one from Switzerland.
  15. Very nice! Any idea where the RR engine came from? Fits the theme of my Sketchpad article in MCM last January issue by the way.
  16. Subscribe to Slot Cars Magazine. Ours is shipped in a plastic bag! Just saying.....
  17. New issue #3 is out! Got mine yesterday and the print quality is now better than Model Cars Magazine! Mostly because it's now bagged and tagged! Yup, the very biggest gripe from model car guys about dogeared corners and ripped covers is a thing of the past! The new issues of Slot Cars Magazine now come mailed in a sealed bag for your protection. Subscribe today so as not to miss an issue... or the entire program. Since unless we get our print numbers up we can't keep doing this. So please consider supporting a growing modeling how-to source. Oh and static model car guys. Before you dismiss this just because you don't build cars with motors. This is one hobby! We all build model cars and trucks. There are many painting and wiring and detailing tips and tricks that are informational for static builders in our pages. So drop your 'raceist' attitudes and get your subscription NOW! (see what I did there?) www.slotcarsmag.com Thank you, Jairus
