Hey Zipper! It was a resin Wagoneer that I converted to the Cherokee Chief. I got it from RMR and I think they have one with the grill that matches your 1979. I've always loved the old full size Jeeps.
That's a neat model you built, I like it a lot-I'm sorry that I didn't see it when it was on the workbench,
Is this a resin body or did you convert it into a Cherokee your self ? I'd like to build one myself-I had a 1979 for many years...what a cool truck !!
Thanks!
Sweet Jeep!

I've finally finished my Jeep Cherokee Chief. Pictures of the build are in the On the workbench section.

Nize job on the shinny Red piant but the widnow, look’s lik it is insides adn the maskins iz fuzzy’d. Jest don’t mach the pictures.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean but if you are reffering to the area between the black and red along the roof I haven't painted the chrome trim yet.

I installed the Cherokee Chief stripe decals and some other decals today. They came out better then I expected. Here are a few pictures with the flash on and off.

Thanks guys!

I've finally gotten back to work on my Jeep Cherokee Chief. The main body paint is done (except for the hood) and now I'm working on the painting the details. I've installed the Jeep CJ lights and grill. Next up is painting chrome trim and interior of the body, bumpers, installing the windows and decals.

Hey Wagoneer81,
I've been away for a few months and just saw your question, I got the Wagoneer body with the Gladiator nose from Race Motor Replicas (RMR). I modifed the Wagoneer body into the Cherokee body because RMR didn't have a Cherokee body yet. Your Chevy Suburban looks like a cool project!
Ok, I'm blind! I just now found this thread! Lotta great ideas here!
Jeepster25, where did you get the Cherokee body and the old style, Gladiator nose? I've been looking for both and would love to get ahold of a couple of each!
OK, I just fired off a PM to Rolltide expresing my interest in joining this build. It'll give me an excuse to build a '57 Chevy. I'm pretty sure what your first visual image was... trust me, not that '57 Chevy. I want to build a '57 Chevy Suburban. I'll use a Jimmy Flintstone resin body and an AMT 1957 Chevy Stepside for the donor kit:

Thanks guys! I've got another quick update, I decided to start work on the decals today and I think I got them pretty close to the original stripes.
-
That is an incredible build! I really like the look of it and your detailing is amazing!
-
Here is my update, bodywork is done and primer is on. Just some more sanding then cherry red paint.
-
Very realistic, Great job! The detailing is incredible!

Here is a quick update on my progress on the Jeep Cherokee Chief. I had the car primered and painted but when I did the final coat it was windy and some debris got into the paint. I waited a day and lightly sanded the debris out but when I resprayed the paint it aligatored so I decided to strip the paint. Everything I tried to remove the paint wouldn't work so I decided to use some paint stripper which got the paint off but also melted the styrene fender flares and the side window panels . Luckily the body was resin and didn't melt. I had another donor body for the fender flares and remade the window panels and I'm into primer again. I have some more sanding to do before I try the finish paint again. I learned an important lesson of not to use paint stripper with styrene, next time I'll be smarter .

I decided to take a break from my other two Jeep builds and build this Revell Jeep Honcho Racer. The kit was from 1983 and the decals were dried out so I scanned and reprinted them. I tried to make this model look like the box photo so I didn't paint the body and only painted the detail areas. This was my first attempt at painting white letters on the tires and it came out good.

Great job! The weathering is awesome!
-
Great job Nick! Nice decals too.
-
Yes, jeepster thats fine.
Cool, here are some pictures so far. I just got the front grill glued in and painted the interior. I have some detailing to add to the interior. The rear side window opening was just cut and still needs some adjusting.

Can I enter the Jeep Cherokee Chief I started a few weeks ago?
-
Nice job!!!

Hey I got my decals today, thanks again, just thought I ought to tell you hope your air hoses get there soon.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your ambulance comes out.

Nice project Jeepster! I would definitely go with the Wagoneer wheels. Would that grille fit in the pickup from Revell? It looks like it would. What is RMR's website?
Thanks! I think the grill would fit the Revell Jeep Honcho, I've already glued my grill in so I can't test it on the Honcho. RMR's website is www.freewebs.com/rmrresin/.

Nice to see one of these being built, the Cherokee / Wagoneer is a neat old truck. I assume the chassis is from the Revell Honcho? Looks like you have things off to a good start.
I hadn't noticed RMR offered the older style grill, I've been wanting to build the Honcho as an old military Kaiser Jeep M715 and that grill is a lot closer to that than the one in the kit.
Yes it's on the Revell Jeep Honcho (Pink Poison version). RMR doesn't have a picture of it on the website but when I asked him about it he sent me this picture below. It's pretty close to the 60's front end although the real grill has 12 slots.

Looks good, BTW PM with your address so I can send your air hoses.
I tried to send you the message but it said you can't receive messages.

This is an update on my progress for the Jeep Cherokee Chief. I have painted the engine and chasis. I tried to get the light blue correct like the 1970's AMC engines. I have added the fender flares from the Honcho, I still have some putty to add to fill small gaps between the flares and body. I've filled in the rear door seams and sanded off the door handles. I have temporarily fitted the side rear window areas and tried to figure out the correct window size before I cut. I don't like the wheels from the donor kit so I might go with the Wagoneer wheels shown in the last picture or I might try Jeep CJ wheels.

My first car was a 1987 Suzuki Samurai, it was a fun ride especially in the summer with no top on it. Here is a picture.
