Not too long ago, a John Deere tractor with mower deck was one of the Hallmark Christmas ornaments. My grandson got one that year and I wanted to "borrow" it from him
. If I remember correctly, the blades spun independently. And, if there's a Tractor Supply store in your area, they have die-cast replicas of John Deere equipment at reasonable prices.

Yep, I made my own, using clear decal material by a company that starts with a "P" and our HP printer. I don't think I did anything weird with the print setup: I might have selected photo paper as the decal material has a glossy surface. I'm not sure of the print quality I selected as I printed the images a couple of years ago. The black letters came out PK, but the yellow are semi opaque- over medium blue, they look olive green- and many of the red letters bled like a stuck pig. I allowed plenty of time for the images to dry before I coated them with Micro Scale liquid decal film. And, I applied the decals many months after they were finished. Does anyone have some tips or hints or tricks, or are any good tutorials available? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know where I/we can find images of old ('60's-'70's) car model box covers, with the side panels and end flaps intact? I found several for old aircraft and a few for newer car models, but none for the vintage, stuff. Thanks in advance.

I went to Ollies about a month ago. It's "next door" to a local Hobby Lobby; we went to that store first. HL had the usual suspects at the usual prices- most too high, especially the Lawman Belvedere kit ($39.00!!!- not even worth it with the 40% discount as I wouldn't even use the decals, which probably drove up the co$t). I left empty-handed, but I suggested a visit to Oliies. A little hunting yielded a nice assortment of Lindberg kits, including the Maverick and Ramchargers Mopars and some Revell kits, including the Sox and Martin '67 GTX. Each kit was $7.99. Hey, they might not be the latest and greatest, but I got four kits at Ollies for just a bit more than the price of just one at HL. Even if I just use them for parts, it's worth it.

So, I have one of the repops of the old Racer's Wedge on the drawing board. The body is set up to run tandem axles, with single wheels at each corner. How practical and realistic is this setup, and should this be coverted to a tandem axle dually? The truck will also be towing the trailer seen in the picture. Thanks in advance for your input.

It will happen in time. Think about simple stuff such as putting working headlights in a model, with those big, heat-generating incandescent bulbs. Now, we can get a full set of flashers for a cop car that uses micro miniature LEDs and have adjustable flash rates(thanks to variable RC components).

Snake, I built two of them a few years back. They are not perfect kits; if I remember correctly, the distributor has just six plug wire towers. But they are good slump-busters, just to build for fun, and they can be great starting points. You can see more of mine in "Super Stock Dodges" in under glass, back around June of 2014.

Brodie, I like my Mopars but I'm not a true engine tech person... would a SBC intake serve the purpose? I have no idea about the differences between intake runners, etc. I have never seen the real parts side-by-side to be able to compare.

A mid -90s issue of the Monogram P-38, in 1/48 scale, with the addition of the warp nacelles from an AMT/Ertl(?) USS Enterprise. Not sure of what color it will be, and a stand of some sort is a must.

Sorry to take so long to get back, but it is that time of year. Yeah, it is taking me a while for this one, but I want to get it "right"(at least in my head). The bed cover and rear fenders have rolled beads that I created with an empty ball point pen cartridge. The rust was done using inexpensive pastels over Testors Burnt Metal Metalizer. I use that line often; all of the metallic finishes are Metalizers, either sprayed or brushed on. Thanks for the compliments.

Lindberg '34 Ford with AMT/Ertl 312 y-block. Test fitting at this point. Only 7 original kit parts used; the rest is sourced from my parts box, scrounged from my kit stash, aftermarket photoetched or fabricated. Trying to have it done for the Hope it Don't Snow contest in Spartanburg in January.

Does anyone have any experience with the products from Clearly Scale? I am considering getting some stuff(Hemi, back halfs...) but I would like to hear from previous customers first. Thanks

Didn't like them when I was younger, don't like them now. I can remember buying just two Tom Daniels kits- the Red Baron when it was first released, and (just last year) one of the many reissues of the Badman, just for the gasser-style parts.

Use different brands, types (acrylic v enamel) and shades (aircraft interior black, flat black, grimy black, etc- there are so many to choose) and finishes (gloss, semi-gloss, matte or flat) for the surfaces that you will paint. If you want to simulate carpeting, embossing powder works better than flock. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Tape them on and check it out.
Use Elmer's (white) glue to temporarily secure the headers, then see how things fit. No problem if they pop off as the white glue can be peeled off the plastic.

You have some radical thoughts there, Mike. I like that. I like to think that those of us who do appreciate cars do so as not just mechanical devices used (primarily) for transportation, but also as works of art. "Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder". Then again, maybe the builder just forgot to remove the sticker. Stuff like that does happen in real life. Should it really matter?
