  1. The Tamiya Light Sand followed by clearcoat looks pretty convincing as leather. Just a few sprays of the coat though, you want to keep a realistic "used" appearance to the seats.
  2. I have interest as well. I have yet to build mine and want to spruce it up when I do.
  3. My latest build. This is the Lindberg Unmarked Police Car kit, and is a breeze to put together. I stole the glass out of the Revell snap kit since it already had the black frames and a blue lightbar from the Tennessee State Trooper kit. I also added 2 antennas to the trunk and roof.
  4. THAT would be a crime. And this thread just gave me an idea....
  5. Then I got an older kit. Mine was all red with clear in the middle.
  6. The "Unmarked Police Car" has a red lightbar, which I thought odd. After all, shouldn't the bubbletop be clear so the builder can make a choice of color depending on what city/county/state he's trying to build? Not my pic...
  7. Ahhh. Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering how this was done.
  8. I take ALL CRITICISMS as a learning tool to improve my work. I want people to look at my models and help me to be better. I have never wanted anything less.
  9. I pulled out my Lindberg unmarked Ford LTD Crown Vic Police Car as an easy build and to play with my recently printed local county police decals and noticed that the bubble top that comes with the kit is red. Since my local police uses blue lights for police, I set out to Hobbytown to see if they had any other Lindy cop kits I could swap out the lightbars for. I picked up the Lindberg Tennessee State Trooper kit and saw the Revell Snap Tite Ford LTD Crown Vic kit on the shelf. And since I've been in a "government/cop" mood lately, I bought the Revell kit as well for a quick build. So, here I am, trying to get a decal stripe to lie down on the model and having to wait until it sets, and I decide to crack open the Revell kit. As I'm sorting through it, I noticed that the chassis detail on the bottom looks VERY CLOSE to the Lindy kit, with minor changes in the exhaust pipes. I flip over the chassis and see that the mount holes are also different (the Revell kit doesn't use screws...), but still they are almost identical. I looked at the interior tub and see that it is identical to the Lindy kit in every way, right down to the handheld radios in the center console! The dash is also identical, AND mounts to the tub in the same way as the Lindy does! Interesting! Thirdly, I looked at the bodies of both cars and saw only a few differences there, all in the mounting of the body to the chassis. Otherwise they are completely the same. The front grill and rear lamps mount in exactly the same way in both kits, but the window glass doesn't have pins on the Revell kit as the Lindy kit does. Now, I thought Lindberg/AMT and Revell were two completely different companies, so how can Revell get away with selling this kit? Wouldn't there be licensing issues at stake with these two?
  10. What they said. Dullcoat will tone that shine down pretty easily.
  11. I also suggest clear coating your paint prior to BMF. If it becomes too glossy you can go over it with Dullcoat to drop it back down again.
  12. Top is removable with added mounting tabs on the bottom to secure it in place. Rollbar added for good measure. The tools and posters along with the Delorme Virginia roadmap are all removable from the truck for better display. Also added CB and antenna as well.
  13. Finally completed my first build of the year. Virginia Forestry Service '72 Crew Chief as "Smokey Bear"
  14. I've used it for years and never had a yellowing problem. May have been a problem with a 70's or 80's type formula, but the stuff I've used since the 90's til now has been fine.
  15. I need to figure out how to make the body more "dirty" without destroying what I have on it now. I'll have to research on here the best way to do that so I get it right rather than screwing everything up and make it look forced and unrealistic.
  16. Great work! I have GOT to build my 2 Ecto's at some point. Awesome detail on the roof area!
  17. Added tabs to the shell so that it would hold to the body better. Now it won't readily shake loose... Still need to install the rear glass in the shell.
  18. Thanks! After a lot of fussing and fighting, got the body to behave well enough to glue it down to the interior... I had to mount the rear gate and bumper to get the back to sit like it's supposed to, otherwise it probably would've bowed in when I put on the rubber bands. Now letting it dry and hopefully the tailgate will open and shut like it should. Thank the maker for rubber bands.
  19. Test shot of the rollbar support behind the seats... Test shot of the white canopy on the body (leaving it removable...) 2nd test shot from the side... More to come.
