  1. Sorry to hear about your loss. I know how close pets can get.
  2. Ever since the local track has run a 4-cyl. class it has been dominated by the Saturn SC2 and SL2. I have been looking for a model of either of them for a few weeks and can't find one. Does one exist? Thanks
  3. Looks really cool. I like the color on the car and the base is really neat.
  4. A guillotine with a glow in the dark person? hmm whats the fun of a guillotine if the person is a spirit already, lol. Looks really good. I have a few of the Polar Lights Creepy kits I hope mine come out as well as yours.
  5. Looks like that is going to be a cool build. I will keep an eye on this one.
  6. It's strange that they would chose Tim Flock as the driver for the '53 Hudson. In that year he only raced in and won 1 Grand National race. I know Tim Flock is a huge name and everything but in representing that year they could have went with a driver that is more known for that car. Herb Thomas (won the Grand National Championship that year)or Dick Rathmann would have been better representatives for that year of car. Even Tims brother, Flonty Flock, who is most known for been involved in the crash that killed Bobby Myers raced and won more in a Hudson that year. I'm not saying Tim Flock is a bad driver (he was one of the best I think he still holds the highest race winning percentage) or isn't worth representing on a model. I just think they could have chosen a better representative for that specific year of race car. When other choices would have been just as notable. All that said I will probably get the Model King kit. If they put enough extra race parts in the box to make it worth the extra price. If it is just a reissue with a different set of decals I hardly see it worth the price. Now if they put a Jocko figure in the kit I might buy two or three. Perhaps the Monkey is the reason for choosing Tim Flock as the "driver" wouldn't that be awesome.
  7. Sounds cool. Might want to try contacting Plastruct they might still have it somewhere in their archives. Could be a project to put in a future MCM.
  8. As others have said we know you are trying to be helpful but seriously I don't think you have the experience to be writing this stuff. Using a Q-tip can leave lint stuck on or under your decal. And your steps are not the only way much less the best way. A good teacher will lay out several different ways of doing something and let the student, in this case the builder decided which works best for them not just what the teacher deems is the right way. I applaud what you are trying to do but I think you need to step back and think harder about your posts and their content.
  9. Their are many many others out their with great parts and accessories for a model build. Perhaps instead of ONLY posting your favorite aftermarket vendors you should just create a links thread and post up all of them. Otherwise this 101 just looks like a big ad for your favorites.
  10. Really cool. How did you get the ramp cut into the base? Those yellow posts are all over shops here. Mechanics must not be able to drive. Did you make any of the walls removable for taking photos?
  11. Well guys I did some homework on the models and found out that the kid and his parents along with his sister and three pets died in a house fire. The models were part of the estate and came from one of two storage units the family had. Guess not every story can have a happy ending.
  12. I have NEVER heard of a shop using a roller paint job. Every couple of years though Hot Rod magazine does an article on how to roller paint your car and I wouldn't doubt that has made a few people think it is more widely used than it is.
  13. Craigslist is a great place to find models. Sometimes they are cheap and sometimes they are expensive. I put a ad on their (back when I first started in models) and I pretty much got the same thing a guy who had a lot of models and was willing to pass some of them on. He claimed to have a few models he was willing to sell. Since I didn't hardly have any models myself I was willing to take just about anything. I get to the guys house and he takes me to the basement. Opens a door that looks like it should lead to a closet and BAM a HUGE model room with over 500 sealed models and probably twice that in open complete kits and who knows how many boxes of partially built models. He said take your pick and walked out of the room to go back upstairs (he was watching a football game). I didn't even know where to start and wound up just picking 10 out of the first several dozen I saw. To bad I didn't have more knowledge about what I was looking at he had some really rare stuff. He came back down a little while later and talked to me for over an hour gave me a little paint and I was on my way. He told me to come back anytime and he would sell me more but I lost his number and he has never responded to any of the other CL listings I have made.
  14. I bought 30 boxes of parts and parts cars (badly built but can definitely see a progression in the models) at a local auction and while going through it I found some interesting things. Hotwheels cars photographs christmas and birthday cards pogs - if anyone remembers those homework from 4th grade unopen bag of Doritos - My girlfriend dared me to eat them but I so far have declined But the coolest thing I have found so far... copies of auto trader pages with phone numbers, addresses and thank you cards. The kid who must have been around 8 would look through the auto trader for 1:1 versions of models. He would then call and set up a time to visit and go take photos. Then come back and write thank you cards to the car owners. I saw that and it made me smile. Think about what would be going through the mind of some middle aged guy trying to sell his hot rod/muscle car for whatever reason when a kid calls you wanting to take photos. And what about the kid calling these guys. At that age I don't think I would have been that brave around strangers. The kid even got some letters back from the car owners about how polite he was and them wanting photos when he is done building. I wonder if he ever showed anyone what he built. He was a huge Mopar fan as most of the cars and things are mopars but then again the mid-late 90's was full of Mopar reissues. I am not even half way through the boxes but I am already glad I bought the models just finding this stuff was worth the money.
  15. Not in my top 50 but it's better than what I have now so I would take it.
  16. I can see how box stock could be more of a challenge than just adding a bunch of aftermarket. Taking the same exact thing 100's of others have and making it great and unique is much harder and requires more thought than just gluing on a bunch of aftermarket goodies.
  17. I've got to say 249 for a Mini Exotics isn't all that crazy. I don't know much about Mini Exotics but I do know some of their limited releases will fetch close to 500 bucks now-a-days. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and what you want to spend it on.
  18. Looks like a fun meet up. I will make it to the next one.
  19. Definitely watch it. I would like to know. I highly doubt they will value it any higher than maybe 50-75 dollars. BUT... you have to remember they value things to insurance value not retail value so it could be higher.
  20. Get a couple other lighted cars and prepare for some night racing. It's really cool.
  21. Testors has redone a kit or two from almost every manufacture at one time or another doesn't anyone remember the Testors reissue of the Pocher Ferrari Testarossa Spyder?
