  1. Not much here grabs my attention, as I have a backlog of kits and money is also very tight for me now. Wake me when they announce reissues of the MPC '82 Celica Supra and the AMT '95 Supra, as those two are great for kitbashes and parts swapin.

    The 4 door Supernatural Impy is cool, but I imagine they'll show up at Hobby Lobby down the road since it's a popular licenced properly. I wait instead of plunking down $35+ at initial release then finding out they carry it months later and being cheaper with their coupons.  

  2. If I recall correctly, wasn't the AMT Mitsubishi Eclipse announced in R2's lists? I imagine the F&F 95 Supra will follow if Round 2 has the Fast and Furious licence from Universal and also the Toyota licence with the 1/64th Supras for Auto World's line.

  3. This is a rebuild of a failed attempt from about 12 years ago. It was so warped and bent on top of the poor hood and glass fit, that it got scrapped and recycled for other projects at some point. A few years back, I acquired a Monogram '92 ZR1 (molded in red) cheap in a club auction that not only had a horribly gluebombed body, but was also badly twisted with a broken section near the trunk area that made it unusable for anything else. However, the rest of the ZR1's contents were untouched and still on it's trees, and that inspired me to locate the body, front bumper, and glass glass of the Callaway for a possible restoration.

    I didn't have the Callaway's original hood, and the ZR1's warped and messy body had the hood heavily glued shut. But I recalled having a unpainted yellow molded ZR1 hood from a parts box I was given at a club meeting. I tracked that down and added trimmed side scoops from the AMT '69 Covair's custom parts as hood scoops. The Callaway's one piece glass snapped on the drivers and passengers side windows, but the rest was salvageable by making it with a windows down look. I also didn't have the Callaway's original taillights, so I made custom two piece ones cut from sheet styrene and painted transparent red over silver. Callaway's body was still warped, but I did the best I could with correcting some of it's horrible fit it as it would probably break and snap further after it's purple bath.

    Otherwise, the bulk of the Red '92 ZR1 filled in for the interior, motor, chassis, and suspension stuff. I also did other modifications as followed:

    Custom twin turbo setup using resin turbos, intercoolers from Mustang Mach II, and styrene scrap trees bent as intake tubes

    ZR1's exhaust was used with slight modifications to where it connects to the turbos and fabricating the rear exhaust to exit out the center of the Callaway's body

    NOS tank and steering wheel gagues were leftover parts from a Revell Mathew and Debby Heys Thunderbird Pro Street

    Mesh screening was used to replace molded rear bumper vents that were broken from storage

    Revell '09 ZR1 wheels, disc brakes, and rear tires were used with front tires from the AMT F&F Supra

    Interior paint is Rustoluem Painters Touch True Blue dullcoated with Rustoluem Matte Clear. Exterior is Tamiya TS-52 Candy Lime Green over Rustoluem Silver cleared with Pledge

    Which also had custom parts for the George Barris hot rod version. Some of the customizing parts looked goofy or didn't fit very well, so I sourced some bits and such from the spares bins to make a modern pickup rod.

    Mods as followed:

    Independent front suspension made from Ferarri Enzo pieces and Monogram 1992 Corvette A arms 

    Monogram 1992 Corvette also gave it's independent rear suspension + axle.

    Wheels and tires are from a Revell Motor City Muscle '69 Shelby GT500. Disc brakes are from a Hummer H2

    Kit's custom exhaust was lengthened at the end using pieces from Revell Shelby Series one

    kit had a wooden style flat bed, or a bed that had seats going on it but no side pieces, which isn't street legal. An AMT 1953 Ford F150 pickup bed was used with a custom rear clear tailgate made using a Hummer H2 rear window cut down to fit

    Exterior paint is Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue over Rustoluem Silver, cleared with Pledge.

    Chevy 350 LT1 block (painted Tamiya TS 74 Clear Red over Rustoluem Bright Silver) and transmission from Revell 4th Gen Camaro Z28

    Corvette LT1 heads, headers, and waterpump/fan belts from Monogram '92 Corvette Convertible. Edlebrock valve covers from AMT 34 Ford parts

    Roots drag supercharger from AMT Silhouette, intake made from ribbed muffler system of unknown source

    Twin Turbos from TheGameBoy Resins, and air filters from spares bin sources. Radiator/intercooler looks to be from a Monogram Nascar piece and intake pipes were made from from plastic tree sprue

    Side exhaust from Monogram '70 Challenger T/A

    Rear axle from AMT 70 Monte Carlo, some other suspension parts from '90 Mustang Drag parts. Driveshaft made from long sprue and sway bars from spares bin sources

    Bucket seats from Revell C5 Corvette and steering wheel from Monogram '71 Hemi Cuda. NOS bottle (also painted Tamiya TS 74 Clear Red over Rustoluem Bright Silver) and side mirror are from unknown sources from the spares bin

    Wheels and tires are large profile custom mag wheels from Revell '66 Chevelle Wagon. Disc brakes are from Monogram '92 Corvette Convertible

    Decals are source from random unused sheets.

    Interior is Rustoluem "Advanced Formula" Flat Brown, and exterior and floor pan are painted Rustoluem Metallic Black cleared with Pledge

  6. This AMT '66 Olds started life as a very old build crica 2009. It was a mild custom painted a similar red like on the box, and had a LS1 swap from a Revell 2002 Camaro with "20 mag wheels from a Revell 66 Chevelle SS Wagon.  At some point it was mined for parts, mainly the wheels and LS1 motor, to go on other projects. After a few years of sitting on the shelf in pieces, it ended up scrapped in a storage crate until being found in a parts hunt very recently. Surprisingly, most of the essential parts were there even the front+ rear glass, which is rare when finding parts to resurrect an old build. Unfortunately, I could not find the hood and the rear suspension along with small bits like the clear front lenses and clear red taillights were missing.  

    I couldn't find the kit's 442's W30 motor it originally came with (might have given it to a club member in a trade for wheels) and I didn't feel like raiding my other mint kit for it, so I had gathered up an LT1 using a Revell 4th Gen Trans Am for the block and a Monogram '92 Corvette for the heads and fan belt/water pump setup (Monogram's Corvette motor had an auto trans and wouldn't fit properly in the Old's frame). I know it's a Chevy motor in a Olds, but it's the only complete setup I could find that would fit without major work. While I was able to find clear front lenses and make taillights from clear styrene pieces, I still couldn't find the hood after I had stripped the rest in the purple bath and that was gonna be an issue. I couldn't see myself raiding the hood from one of the mint kits in my stash (that I also plan to build someday) and refused to succumb to Ebay prices just for the hood alone. As I came up with ideas I remembered a crazy looking 67 Chevelle I saw at a car show back in 2009 that, apparently had no hood, but contained a big block Chevy with not only a fuel injected Roots high rise Supercharger with plumbing to the radiator, but was also twin turbocharged and appeared to have had the intercooler built in in the radiator.

    With that idea brewing, I got to work on parts hunting! I gathered up a flat manifold from an AMT Chevy 350 motor of some subject, a Roots Supercharger from the AMT Silhouette, and pulley belts from the Revell '68 Firebird's optional supercharger setup. I also sourced different 350 LT1 headers and placed them upside down to put the two resin turbos on. After finding some more tidbits and other '92 Corvette parts, there is where i'm at

    The front suspension was mostly intact, just needed new springs and spindles. I also cooked up a 4 link style rear suspension and plan to add a side exhaust system from an old Monogrma '71 Cuda built up. I had also found a matching set of the custom wheels from the Revell 66 Chevelle SS Wagon that were originally used and used brakes from the Monogram '92 Corvette. I had set a right height setup that looks dope dayumm, but forgot to take pics of it before I got it ready for paint!

  7. Vintage Revell 1/25. No major issues aside the side glass being severely warped beyond any us and the rear glass not entirely seating down. Went through two sets of the rear windows, the first one literally a slope due to warpage. The second one that's on here isn't a perfect fit ether but looks fine all things considered.

    First row of mods:

    Kit's seats were missing, so ones from a AMT 4th Gen Firebird Trans Am were used to fill that void.

    Exhaust tips of unknown source from spares bin

    Wheels are custom ones from Revell Acrua RSX, and painted Rustoluem Metallics Pure Gold

    Brakes are unknown ones from the spares bin and tires are sourced from a Revell SVT Mustang Cobra

    Front suspension has added upper A arms and springs, which the kit did not originally have

    Spoiler did not come with the GTP, but was sourced from a parts Revell 90 Grand Prix molded in white

    GTO/77 Trans Am style hood scoop is actually the optional roof scoop from a Revell Mitsubishi Eclipse 

    Decals are from various sources, Lil Hustler ones being unused leftovers from the previous Datsun 620 build

    Interior paint is K-mart branded Grey Primer, and exterior is painted Tamiya TS-72 Clear blue over Rustoluem Aluminum cleared with Pledge

    LS1 motor from parts bin Revell 4th Gen 2002 Camaro SS

    LS1's T5 transmission was hacked off and replaced with a black molded FWD transmission. It was from an unknown source, but lined up with the LS1 block perfectly

    To fit this larger motor, some of the frame had to be shaved off and alt driveshafts were used instead of the kit's ones

    The left part of the engine bay had some work done with removing material and setting it back further so it wouldn't hit it. It was a very tight squeeze even with the work done

    Headers and K&N filter are spares bin pieces an unknown source, and the Turbo is a resin piece with the tubing from plastic sprue. Intercooler was also converted from a spares bin radiator

  8. Recently reissued 1/25th MPC kit. Fiddly in spots and the side bed pieces were so warped, that I had to glue the tailgate shut and rubber band them all together.

    Modifications as followed:

    L28ET SOHC I6 Turbo engine swap from an AMT Datsun 280ZX Turbo

    Exhaust tip from AMT 4th Gen F-body kits

    Bucket seats and steering wheel from Revell Datsun 240z. Steering Wheel gauge is kit's custom part and shifter is from unknown source

    Kit's leaf springs were warped and the left one was snapped on the tree. Kit's rear axle was used with custom 4 link like setup with rear springs.

    Wheels and tires are custom pieces from a wheels parts baggie of an unknown Revell subject purchased at a swap meet long ago. Brakes were from a AMT '67 Mustang, wheels were painted Rustoluem Metallics Pure Gold

    Interior paint is Rustoluem Advanced Formula Flat Brown; exterior paint is Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue under Rustoluem Aluminum cleared with Pledge.

    The frame is the kit's unit. This is the AMT kit which had the suspension and exhaust components molded separate. The MPC Monzas from what I've seen have those elements molded in to the frame, as they were originally promos converted into glue type detail kits.

    Neither have I, though i've seen some folks build the Monza SS wide body race version, which i'd love for R2 to reissue or happen to get a hold of one at a decent price someday.

  10. Recent "Original Art" series reissue of AMT 1/25th scale kit.

    Modifications as followed:

    Custom "Aero" front and rear bumper parts that came with Monza were used. GTO style hoot tach bump from unknown source.

    Most of LT1 motor from AMT '94 Camaro manifold; oil pan and water pump/pulley pieces came from AMT Monza V8

    Custom headers (may have been the ones for the 350 turbo setup) from a MPC 82 Knight Rider Firebird

    Custom side exhaust made from scrap plastic sprue and muffler+tip from unknown subject

    Ricardo like seats and shiftier from MPC '70 Super Bee Pro Street

    Kit came with 3 dashboards, one was a newly tooled piece with better details that was used. Little did I know it was such a poor fitting piece that it required trimming to get in the grooves in the door panels. It worked out, but still Round 2 double check these things!

    Wheels are custom ones from a Revell '50 Ford F-150, painted Rustoluem Metallics Pure Gold. Front suspension was lowered as it sat too high, rear was left as-is.

    Yet again, front tires are from a Revell Acura RSX, and the wider rears come from what could be an AMT Fast and Furious Veilside Toyota Supra. Brakes are from a Revell 4th Gen Camaro 

    Interior paint is Krylon Rose Gold Metallic; exterior paint is Rustoluem Color Shift Galaxy Blue cleared with Pledge.

  11. Revell-Monogram 1/25th kit circa 1998. Kit was missing quite a few pieces, but regardless modifications are as followed:

    Kit's dashboard was lacking instrument gauges,  ones were added using unused Revell Datsun 240z decals

    Kit's side glass pieces were missing, so mesh screening pieces were used in their place

    Custom LT1 style fuel injection setup made from an AMT 94 Camaro manifold and a 67 Impala Prostreet 427 intake

    Edlebrock valve covers from AMT '34 Ford 350 V8. Air Filter is unknown piece from parts bin.

    Kit was missing headers, so ones were gathered using stock headers from a Revell '57 Ford motor, which give it a custom look and fit the ports on the heads nicely.

    To accommodate the new headers, a new exhaust system was made. Plastic spruce pieces were cut and bent to route to the kit's rear muffler

    Wheels are from an old Radioshack Xmods wheel set, which look about 1/24th and resemble OZ BBS style wheels. Brakes are from an old AMT grey molded source of an unknown subject (Fast and Furious Monte Carlo?).

    Front tires are from a Revell Acura RSX, and the wider rears come from what could be an AMT Fast and Furious Veilside Toyota Supra.

    Interior paint is Rustoluem Advance Formula Flat Brown, and the frame is Rustoluem Universal Aluminum.

    Exterior paint is Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue over Rustoluem Silver, cleared with Pledge.

    Ignore that the valve cover had lettering upside down. I thought they were installed correctly but the engine was faced a different way before it got panted. Oh well, should still run fine!

    Thanks! Yeah, stuff that BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH with an LS when it blows LOL! Straight pipe exhaust is the stock piece from the BRE version.

    The Northstar motor was initially developed by Oldsmobile but originated in the '92 Cadillacs. The 4.6 liter version was the most widely used version in all GM cars until 2011, but only the smaller 4.0 liter version (which was used in the 99-02 Olds Aurora and the Shelby Series 1) was the only one ever kitted. The Series one version of the motor is not only supercharged, but is also in a RWD configuration that required trimming of the trans+ molded drive line to replace it with the Fieros separate transmission.

    1/24th Scale, reissued in 1994 and 2004. Most parts went together well, but the rear bumper is a challenge since it has to go on after the chassis is in, otherwise it's near impossible to get the frame in with it on.

    Trim can be a nightmare if one were to use pens or brush. It was relatively easy to do using rounded toothpicks.

    Got two of these dirt cheap that time I was at Emerald City. The other one I'm keeping sealed but my dad build one of these box stock back in the day and still has it. Maybe i'll get of that one on here sometime.

  14. 2015 issue of Revell BRE Datsun 240z racer. On top of having some warped spots (that were partially fixed without breaking another hood or set of glass into two), most parts needed massaging, hollowing, and trimming to lay in place. Main offender was the dashboard being too tall and making the body look like a lift up funny car. That and the firewall needed to be trimmed to get the body to frame/interior fit in line. It's not perfect, but acceptable considering the warping didn't help a kinda messy 70s era Revell kit.

    Following modifications were made:

    Upgraded wheels/tires + brakes from an Aoshima lightsports series MX5 Miata. Wheels were painted Rustoluem Metallics Pure Gold

    Custom built twin turbo and FI system using Tamiya Toyota Supra 2Jz header

    Custom built intercooler

    Frame/interior paint is Rustoluem Universal Aluminum. Exterior is an unknown (can had no label) brand of Satan Black. I figured this color combo would replicate a stealth jet lightweight racer design.

  15. Nice work! Monogram's Vette kits were fickle, especially with the hood and the glass fitments. How bad did the one piece glass affair and hood fit go once all the motor and radiators were in?

    Have one of these unstarted (that was checked and had parts de warped by me) in my stash, seeing yours makes me want to start it and hope things go for the best. I had attempted to build one of these about 12 years ago, but my kit was so warped and bent on top of the poor hood and glass fit, that it got scrapped and recycled for other projects.

  16. I applaud your take and ideas on improving this steaming hunk of garbage. Now I see 67 GTO becomes a totally different kit when you dump the janky frame, motor and interior and swap it out with anything else.

    Is that the AMT 67 Pro Street Chevelle frame you used? It looks different to the Revell 67, but then I remembered the AMT kit had inner fenders in the frame compared to the Revell with them in the engine compartment.

  17. I applaud you for even getting those nasty fitting noses to look proper! The underlying MPC kit is OK, but the custom front nose is one of the worst fitting things to crop up in any model build, second to the AMT 69 Daytona's nose and the AMT Lamborghini Diablo body to chassis fit.

  19. Normally i'm not in to these (and supposedly they're rare for being kinda curbsides), but a few years ago I saw the '97 HHO reissue and the 1980 Street Freak issues cheap as some shows and figured what the hey. White/Red/Blue is the 1997 issue of the Hurst Harry Olds (in the vintage Monogram boxart), Green one was the 1980 Street Freak reissue (which is really the same Hurst Harry Olds with new decals). Green 442 was finished weeks ago but was in progress on/off for about 4 years waiting for paint, which was applied on one of the worst and windiest thanksgivings ever that tossed the body around. Luckily, most of the severe chips were covered up with decals and all worked out. Mods (that were started in 2017) were some lowering, and has spares bins wheelie bars, different seats and steering wheel. Wheels and rear tires are from a parts Polar Lights Tom McEwen Barracuda Funny Car (that had an unusable short shotted body), while front tires are spare slicks from one of the Revell '57 Fords. Paint is Tamiya TS-20 Metallic Green rattle can cleared with Pledge. Decals were unsurprisingly shot, so the spare bins came to the rescue with extra decals from other kits,

    White/Red/Blue 442 was started shortly after completion of the Green one. This one is almost OOB with the exception of Cragar mags and smaller drag slicks up front from the Revell '67 Charger (which caused the front to be unxepecently lowered, as the kits tires were the same size as the fronts and made the front too high). Paint is an experimental white/red/blue fade job consisting of Colorplace Gloss White, Fire, Red, and Dark Blue. Decals were heavily water damaged, so the spare bins came to the rescue yet again with leftover decals. Bon Appetite!
