  1. So those are Porcher kits?? I don't think they are plastic. Some of it may be. I can't read the German (not sure about German). I know that you can get the rust on the metal using etching acid and other type acid.. Either way I'd like to see an English version of the text. I guess I'll search for it. I'm interested in his techniques. Anyone else?
  2. Okay- if I remember right the OC came out in about 63? It was orange plastic.- right? I have an OC that's blue plastic. When was that reissue ( I don't have the box)??- I have a reissue from a few years ago but I never opened it up to see what color the plastic is. Is it orange? Thanks guys.
  3. It is very interesting to watch one work-- there was one at the company I worked at. It had a little window where you could see the part come into being. That was a few years ago. I have a part from the machine. It's a sectioned off box about 3 x3 with about 3/8" walls, closed in except for the top of the "box". White plastic. Very clean very distinct smoothe edges and corners. The first thing I thought when I saw this printer was how it could make model parts. Like any new technology the printer was not cheap. It needed it's own air-conditioning unit and venting. That was big bucks.
  4. My favorite is Hobbyland in Reynoldsburg / Blacklick Ohio. It used to be in Whitehall Ohio in the Town and Country Shopping Center . T+C was a mile long and one of the first Shopping Centers of it's kind. Saturday mornings were great there when I was a kid. They had an enormous 1/32- 1/24 slot track back in the 60's. The track is still around. They also had a big HO slot track. Next is the giant Hobby Shop in Dayton Ohio near TJ Maxx, The Dayton shop is the biggest I've been in. They specialize in RC. It looked like 5 + people worked there. That's big-- right? I mean the building seemed bigger than a Dollar General store. If I could I'd travel all over and visit Hobby Shops and model car shows. Would that be cool or what? Another good shop for models you don't see everywhere is in Logan Ohio. Lot's of reissues there, Lil Coffin' and stuff like that.
  5. well - I may pass on it. I know how the lindberg stuff looks when built-- the kit is from way back- I remember the orig kit I had looked a bit like a toy. I'd be better off buying the 1/12 Datsun right hand drive - I think it's Tamiya- prob a nice tool. Building the old tools is about all I've been doing lately. The best new tool that I think has a great fit and great tool is the Dodge Raminator. 1/24. But it's not a big kit so .........
  6. Well then.... I did the math and your basement is 640 ft. long. You have me beat by about 7ft. HAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
  7. My table gets so messed up during a build- I'll stop and put everything away and then the next day I'll get everything back out and start in again fresh. HA! It does kind of keep me organized and on track when I do that- I do that about once a week! Custom Mike--I really like the TV cabinet with the doors- nice! Tom G- the shelves up on the wall are something I should do- only my walls are concrete.
  8. I never had enough room no matter what. I moved into a new house with a big basement so I figured I'd make the work space I've always wanted. I took two cafeteria tables and put them together in a big square then put a 4x8 piece of plywood on that-- so that is 5x8. Eventually that wasn't big enough. I got another cafe table. Still not enough. SO don't get a bigger bench- you'll just end up needing more space. I end up putting all the stuff I need to work on kits on my work tables and it just snowballs into less and less space and I still have to get up and go to the shelves and get stuff. Maybe I should go back to the TV tray (remember those?) I used when I was a kid. Good idea? Anyone else have this problem? Anyone start out on a TV tray?
  9. Grainger---Edco Tool Co. -- check out the ones they have there- they are the kind used by company assemblers. I've use one for about 10 years. I use it for every build. They clamp on a table and have a round bulb , a big mag glass and about a 3 ft radius movement- they work perfect for building models. I couldn't build if I didn't have one. They might be 50 or 60 bucks- but it's well worth it.
  10. I realized I was not a young buck any more when I was about 28 and was still looking at hot 19 year old girls and wondering............
  11. Anyone have this kit? Are the tires plastic? 2 piece vinyl? Hows the tool? Pics. ? The Hobby Shop here has a couple of these and I'm thinking about getting one. They didn't want to open one up so I could check it out. I can understand that. I had the original release at one time- If I remember right it had plastic tires the same color as the rest of the kit. Recent builds= 1/8 deuce, 1/12 Fiat , 1/16 Dukes, Raminator I can trade info -
  12. Street Rod? HA! That thing looks awesome BUT if you drove that on my street the Highway Patrol guy that lives a few houses down might have some questions for you.. You could probably outrun him except for the Motorola.
  13. I spent a lot of miles in one of those. I always thought the Freightliners were the best looking cab-over out there. One thing though- in the Winter your toes tend to get a bit cold! HA!
  14. I'm doing mine as a camo black nightime smuggler/ shine runner/ black opps looking thing. No chrome. I guess the military could use it for black opps. No machine gun mounts though.
  15. Lots of flash, parting lines, injection marks- I spent 3 solid days scraping (xacto), sanding and cleaning. The plastic is thicker on one side of the body. The front wheel wells are cut like Nascar type- . There are certain parts in the kit that appear to go to the nascar Petty that are not on the instructions. The roll cage is too short. If you were driving the car it would obstruct your vision. The instructions don't have part names. The front loop may be a little warped. The cowl doesn't have the same bow as the back of the hood (on mine). The front sus is tricky. I'll prob have to glue mine so the ride heigth is what I want. The dash instruments are cheesy. I built an all new dash face and guages. I've only just started to build mine. It's all painted though and ready to go. It looks like test fitting is the #1 thing to do with this kit. I really like mine and I'll fight with it and get it right eventually. I hope the Petty kit is better but I bet it's the same build wise . You may want to figure out where you don't want to follow certain steps in the instructions. I've had to skip around a bit because I think it's easier to build that way.. I've added brake lines and other detail parts and have had to figure when to do them so I don't get messed up further down the line. It's a bit of a challenge this kit. I've had worse though.
  16. I'm building a modded General Lee which is close to the same as this kit (Petty) engine wise and chassis wise.......I looked thru this thread and couldn't find it BUT I read somewhere about having to tweek the headers and header gaskets to make them fit the engine right so that when the engine is installed in the chassis the headers won't touch the tie rod or some other chassis parts. I wanted to get a little more detail on that.. if anyone knows? I'm going to be ready soon to do the tweek but I want to figure out all my test fits and gluing so it goes smooth. Plus that will help when I get to the Petty kit if it has the same tweek needed.. Thanks-- I remembered the AMT stock cars and how the T Bird was messed up- I'm glad my memory went back that far-( *80's) I guess I'm doing pretty good! And---- I'll buy any 1/16, 1/12, 1/8 Nascar kit-- a 1/8 kit would be beyond cool--- ( I know- they'll never make one)
  17. I hope that the Petty car is a big hit. The other Stock cars were the Hardees T bird and The Pontiac in 1/16 that I used to have- I forget who made them. If the Petty car goes well it would be nice to have those other nascars back also. I'd like to see as many as possible 1/8- 1/12- 1/16 kits come back.
  18. looks like the MPC Street Charger- prob with a mix of that kit and General Lee?
  19. Great job- I'm currently building the kit. 3 days on parts clean up (flash) so far. I'm keeping it close to box stock but not doing a General. I'm makeing it similar to a diecast release I saw in 1/18 that is an actual Moonshine runner. I'm going to go minimum chrome and lot's of dark and flat black color. I don't want the Sheriff to see it at night out on the 2 lane and on the back roads. I'm thinking lower than stock height and some mesh up in the compartment to keep chunks of mud and gravel out -- stuff like that-- then there's the shine. I have to figure out how to make 1/16 moonshine bottles for the trunk- oh yeah - and a wood box for them. These kits are cool but the tool leaves flash on everything. Your General is really nice.
  20. I do all may painting out side so the model is on hold. I had some problems with ":crazing" and I'm thinking I may have some bad primer if there could be such a thing.
