New Mad Max Film
checkmate replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've never seen a resin kit of Max's van, my mate moulded a few but never sold them commercially. The others aren't real accurate. -
Volksrods, who's building these?
checkmate replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Love them, unique and cool -
I've kicked off building one of these, I always wanted one of the original issues but never seemed to win one when they popped up on ebay and was stoked when they reissued this kit even if it's missing the green windows. I'm planning on building it basically standard out of box with maybe a few little mods. The chassis went together really well, nice and square after I removed all the mould lines. I painted it Duplicolour Magma red. I started assembling the engine and the diffs, making slow progress. I managed to get the cab and bonnet painted in Duplicolour Imperial blue. It's been going together well just a little slow with other projects on the go as well. Sorry about the iphone quality pics, I'll get some better shots over the next few days.

I've started building an AMT Ford Econoline van based on the reissued Phantom kit, I've decided to take a different approach to this build instead of my usual custom van approach this one will be a stock delivery van for a change. Smile I've started by taking off all the kits mould lines and painting the body Holts Duplicolour Glacier white.

I've kicked off another build and this time I'm building the '41 Willys gasser of Burns Brothers Racing. Before my love of vans took over I use to mainly build pre '48 cars and gassers. The basis for it is the Revell Stone, Woods and Cook Willys kit. I've put one of these together before and they're a great kit, this one will be basically stock with a few minor mods and some wiring to make it look the way it should. I've had some decals made for it by another forum member and cant wait to try them out. Today I cleaned up the mould lines and laid some primer on it, aiming to get some colour on it tomorrow. To cool will cause this result with Holts Duplicolour automotive acrylic paints. I've has it happen before, wait for the weather to warm up and recoat it, when it happened to me I didn't even sand mine I just recoated it and it came up fine.

New Mad Max Film
checkmate replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They'd be all buggy type things anyway. It would be good to see them do as you guys mentioned the cars out of the first movie. The MFP cars, the Interceptor, the van and even Night Riders Monaro. No one has done an accurate kit of any of them so far, Aoshima's kit is the most accurate out of them but even it's not the best in the accuracy stakes so a few new issues would be great. -

My wife's claimed my built ones already and my sons have an interest. So mine are safe. -

Exactly, great way to look at it. I've thinned mine out and kept the things I can see myself building in the next 5 years. Makes it easier for the wife to sort through should the worst happen. The problem I've seen is when someone dies, someone gets in early while the widow isn't thinking straight and offers her a ridiculously low figure and cleans out the whole lot and resells them for their actual worth. At least if you thin them out while you're still around you can get what they're worth or a fair amount instead of your wife getting ripped off and getting $2 a kit. -
Fake model kit box arts
checkmate replied to 57peppershaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's a pic of my daily driver van and the fake model box top a mate of mine made a few years ago for me. He also did his own Type3 VW Squareback, very clever guy. Love some of these designs especially the Rockford Files Firebird. -

Love the vans!! I've just started one of these too but not going my usual custom route, trying something a bit out side the box. Keen to watch this one come together. -
I've got one of these to put together too so I'll be watching this one to see how it turns out.

Thanks very much Lee, it is a battle mate but one I'm not about to give up on. I've had most of my liver removed, my gallbladder and a few other small bits and pieces, I have an appointment next week to discuss starting my chemo. It's a long way from over but hopefully I'm here for the long haul. Cheers and thanks again. Rob -
Why was the AMT 1941 Plymouth kitted ?
checkmate replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I picked up one years ago second hand for $5, the body has had a horrible paint job but the rest is unstarted. I than bought an aftermarket sedan delivery body to add the chassis too. Just need to get around to building it. -

After finding out in Boxing Day I have liver cancer I've had to make arrangements to sort through my stuff. I had major surgery two weeks ago and before I went in I told my wife what was to happen to my models and added it to my will. My collection of van models, van memorabilia and full size vans go to my two sons, my wife wants to keep my built models and anything not van related I told the wife to sell off or keep for the boys it's her choice. It's something everyone should think about, anyone that has a huge collection of unbuilt kits should consider thinning them out before they go I think that way your family won't have to deal with it or get ripped off when they sell them. No one lives forever and after being told I've got cancer I can't see the need to have 500 unbuilt kits I'll never live long enough to build, think of your family and make some dollars to put into something more useful. -

Great looking build, nice weathering and well thought out. Two thumbs up. -
Wagons that HAVE been kitted . . .
checkmate replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exactly, and station wagons look nothing like sedan deliveries. -
Wagons that HAVE been kitted . . .
checkmate replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Station wagons have back seats and are designed to haul families not parcels. They also usually have 4 doors (although some have only 2) and windows also. Sedan deliveries don't have back seats or windows. It's two totally different styles with two different purposes.
