Acceptance of 3D printed models?
jdhog replied to jdhog's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think you'd find that downloading and printing files is easier than you think. I've not even began to think about designing my own, but I'll happily pay for and print the work of others. 😀 -
Acceptance of 3D printed models?
jdhog replied to jdhog's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I get that 100%. I don't have any local hobby shops. I don't have any real life friends that are model builders. I do not enter contests. My wife and kids couldn't care less what I build. This forum is the only place I display my builds for people to see. Just making sure I wasn't going to get ridiculed when I started sharing my pictures. Facebook modeling groups seem to bring out the worst of the worst. -

It prints out really good. I'm thinking about reprinting the hood though. Doesn't fit exactly right. Might have been a bad print. -
Acceptance of 3D printed models?

I appreciate everyone's input on this subject. I cannot remember which Facebook groups I saw the negative reactions to 3D printed models. My main reason for asking the question is I wanted the temperature of this forum.. I highly respect the overall attitude and demeaner here. I didn't want to get ran out of town if I posted pictures of my 3D printed builds. Thank everyone. Here's a 3D build on my workbench. -

Acceptance of 3D printed models?

Yeah, I get that completely. I accept that I do not have the time or talent to actually design a vehicle, but I am enjoying assembling ones other people have designed. I don't enter competitions either. -
Acceptance of 3D printed models?

I agree. That is a masterpiece. -
I tried to search this topic, but the phrase "3D" is too short to get results. I've have been really into 3D printing for the last several months. I have purchased several "kits" designed by Andrey Bezrodny on cgtrader.com. He designs some really great stuff. If you haven't seen his work, you can find it here: https://www.cgtrader.com/designers/andrey-bezrodny I'm almost finished with my first completely printed kit. I have really enjoyed working with resin and the newness of the whole concept. It has be interested in building again. I've noticed on several Facebook groups that 3D printed kits aren't widely accepted. As a matter of fact, I've seen several people get really angry when someone posts a 3D printed build. What's the opinion here? Personally, I think it adds to the hobby. Let's face it, scale modelers aren't getting younger. Maybe 3D printing will attract new people to the hobby? Just trying to gauge the temperature in the room. Thanks folks. I look forward to hearing everyone's opinions.

Restomod '57 Chevy Cameo pickup

Beautiful. Very well done. -
Great job! Love the engine bay.

Hope this is cool with everyone that I post this. Bought a couple 3D printers from a coworker and went straight to work on an R/C project. The truck is an 1/10 Element Trailrunner. The .stl files for the body accessories and rear bumper came from Knight Customs. I found the wheels on myminifactory. Lots of fun. Can't wait to implement this in 1/25 builds.

That’s nicely done! Great color.

Wow, Tom. That's nice. I love the colors. -
Hey folks. I bought this probably 10 years ago in a junk yard lot on eBay. It was poorly painted with chrome/silver paint. I have had it in my tub of Totally Awesome for probably over a year. I honestly forgot about it. The body was painted and the frame was partially assembled, but other than that it was all there and untouched. Pulled it out of the tub a week or so ago and scrubbed it down real good. I think I have something I can work with. Not sure which direction I am going with it yet. I have some big Centerline wheels from Pegasus that I have been wanting to use for some time. They may find their way onto this truck.

Yes. Considered it, but flubbed it up.

That's a beauty. Looks like it could drive off the table. Wonderful job.

Edited to improve photo brightness.

Loved this kit. I did not, however, like that the wipers are molded into the windshield. It was a very enjoyable build though. Pearl Blue with Pearl Silver from US Art Supply with Rust-oleum 2X Clear. Pegasus wheels. I built it like if I would have bought it when I was younger. I would have had to have put some aftermarket wheels on it. Thanks for taking a look.

Nice job on some very unique kits. Love it. -
I'm building this kit right now. Love a Camaro.

Yeah, I agree. It was a pretty quick build.

I have a thing for Jeeps. My wife and I have owned 7 throughout the years. Here's the only one I own right now: Fun little kit.
