This kit is really a poor representation of the 70's GM pickups with it's crude engine and chassis. Sure hope someone decides to do a new rendition of the squarebody trucks and gives the modeling community something long overdue.

I think our best hopes are for Round2 to continue making improvements to their series of trucks, or for Revell to go all-in starting with the upcoming Stranger Things Blazer.

Beautiful build. The 90's taurus is probably my favorite car of that decade. It looks just as good today as it did back then. Awesome job on the build and photography.

Thanks! My new Iphone 15 has definitely made photography easier, especially with it's zoom features compared to my previous Iphone XS. I wish I could do better with lighting when taking photos.

Thanks! Your unboxing vid a few months ago in part drove me to get to working on this one.

    Absolutely Awesome Build, Alberto!

Your L.E. Models are some of the best I've ever seen. You take the time to sweat the small details, and it really shows.

    Good Show.

Thank you, Alan! I appreciate the comment and it makes me happy when people recognize the details.

  5. Here's my latest, a 1990-1991 Ford Taurus in Arizona Department of Public Safety livery. I used the Rescue 911 version of the kit as it comes with the correct 1990-1991 interior and has some good police car parts. I did some body work around the wheel wells to de-SHO the kit and turn it into a base model. The wheels (which have separate center caps), front and rear bumpers are 3D-printed pieces I had designed and printed by canuck3D model parts. @Wylde did an excellent job on these. He will be listing these parts on his website (https://wylde.ca/) in the next few weeks. Push bumper is scratch built, light bar is a Dave Panek piece, and decals are a combination of Inquarters and Chimneyville. Unfortunately the door decals on the DPS Tauruses were smaller than on other vehicles , so I trimmed what I had as best as I could to make them look the part.

Very nice! I used the same mirrors on the two I built. Weird how AMT provided those mirrors in the '92 and not in the kit they actually belong with. 🤣

Thanks! Yup, I'm still scratching my head at that one. The good thing is that I wasn't planning on using those mirrors on the 1992 that I took them from.

Great Job! You see this kind of truck pop up on Craig's List here in Bakersfield fairly often. Usually 10-15 years old, very low mileage, used mostly for towing the Toy Hauler and Buggy, or Motorcycles to Pismo. They are clean and well cared for and are a bargain when you find them. They sell quickly.

Alberto, you just Nailed the look of these Trucks. I'd say you scored a direct Bullseye on your stated Build Backstory. Excellent Job!

    Good Show.

Thank you! Funny that you mention that; I was in Pismo last week and saw exactly what you're talking about.

Wow! If it were not for the gloss on the side view mirrors, I would have been fooled into thinking it is a 1:1.

That is beautiful! It definitely looks like the well cared for, seldom driven older truck you described. That paint is amazing!

  8. Here's my completed 1996 C-3500 Dually. The truck is mostly box stock, except for the aero mirrors from the companion 1992 Silverado kit and a Gofer Racing bumper sticker decal. Paint is Tamiya TS-33 Dull red clear coated with Mr. Super Clear UV Cut Gloss, both from aerosol cans. It got me fairly close to replicating GM's Dark Garnet red color available for 1996. I wet sanded and cut/polished the paint with Meguiar's Scratch X, Compound, and Polish. My vision for the project was a then brand-new truck with the high end Silverado trim that was purchased by a family to tow their fifth wheel, boat, etc. during specific times of the year, but that otherwise remained un driven.

Overall, I liked the kit and it was 95% hassle-free. My only complaints are the lack of appropriate side mirrors included in the kit, the fit of the front window, and the lack of decals to replicate the side marker lights on the bed. I only bring up the side marker lights since the decal sheet is otherwise very comprehensive and includes decals for every other need. Side marker lights would have rounded everything out.

    Here is the WIP thread:

  9. Here she is all wet sanded and polished. I wet sanded with 4000, 6000, 8000, 10000, and 12000 grit pads. I then buffed it out with Meguiars Scratch X, Ultimate Compound, and Ultimate Polish. I'm still working on my polishing skills, but I figured the truck finish looks shiny but not perfect, just like on a real truck. I still have some detail painting to do on the cab, but the bed is just about done.

Unfortunately, the rear bumper had a small chip on the otherwise great chrome finish. Not huge by any means, but enough to bother me:

I decided this would be a great time to use this Gofer Racing bumper sticker decal set that I have:

I went with something appropriate for the 90's and that still fits my overall theme:

The TS-33 Dull Red is great. I just used some on an AWB Chevy II and cleared it with a Hobby Lobby matte clear. I bet that Tamiya TS-65 clear pearl would look great over it.

I originally purchased TS-33 to do a red interior on a future OBS project. I ended up buying more because of how versatile it is, especially depending on what clear you use.
