The EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin will be hosting a new scale model contest and show called "EAA ScaleVenture" on Friday September 30 and Saturday October 1, 2011. Participants need not be members of the EAA or IPMS to attend. Although we are an aviation museum and this contest is heavy on the aircraft build categories, we welcome all car modelers as well. Here are the basic details for those interested:
Registration is $20 for adults, $10 for juniors ages 11-17, and free for juniors aged 10 and under. Registration includes: admission to the EAA AirVenture Museum for Friday September 30, 2011, Saturday October 1, 2011, and Sunday October 2, 2011; entry of up to five models in the contest ($1 for each additional entry); and one commemorative EAA ScaleVenture t-shirt featuring the ScaleVenture logo above designed by Chad Hill of Django Studios (first come-first served while supplies last). Registration is open at the EAA AirVenture Museum from NOON to 5PM on Friday September 30, 2011 and continues from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday October 1, 2011. We are working on creating an online advance registration form and I will post that as soon as it is complete, or you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can send you a printable registration form that you can mail in with a check.
MUSEUM TOUR & COCKPIT CLIMB: On Friday September 30, 2011 starting at 5PM there will be a special behind-the-scenes tour of the museums artifact and archives collection and an open cockpit opportunity with a number of museum aircraft - your chance to get inside some of EAA's airplanes. This special opportunity is an additional $5 and is only available to registered contest participants.
VETERANS PANEL: On Saturday October 2, 2011 there will be a special moderated guest speaker panel of World War Two veterans on hand to talk about their combat experiences during the war. This event is included in your contest registration or regular museum admission.
Vendor tables are $20 each if purchased before September 1, 2011 and $25 after September 1. Vendor registration deadline is September 25, 2011. Any leftover tables on the days of the event will be made available to registered vendors for an additional $10 per table on a first-come, first-serve basis. Vendors not set up by 9:00AM on Saturday October 1, 2011 will forfeit their tables unless notification is given 48 hours in advance. Vendors are encouraged to set up on Friday September 30, 2011. If you are interested in purchasing a vendor table(s), please email us at email@example.com.
Oshkosh's Hawthorn Suites has offered a discount for this event of $78.00 per night with breakfast included (applicable taxes still apply) for Friday September 30 and Saturday October 1. Use the code "ScaleVenture" when making your reservation.
Although this is NOT an IPMS contest, judging shall be conducted using the guidelines set forth by IPMS/USA. Entries will be judged using the following criteria: Basic Construction, Overall Finish, Overall Accuracy, Additional Detailing and Degree of Difficulty. Scratchbuilt detail will be favored over commercially available detail if quality is comparable. A great amount of added detail will not make up for poor basic construction. A copy of the IPMS/USA Judges Handbook will be available for review. Judging procedure will be based on the AMPS style of judging modelers will be responsible for bringing their models to the judging table. For all the rules and regulations, please visit the events section of the AirVenture Museum's Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/EAAMuseum. You need not have a Facebook account to view this.
