Glad to see the Impala back on the bench Jason! 😊  It would be a shame to let this beautiful project gather dust... Obviously, it will move some when it is completed! 😁

    thanks Francis!

no plans on pushing this one aside just life has gotten in the way. now after the holiday season I can get back to this project and look forward to making more progress

This is a fantastic build so far! I love reading posts like this to learn about new techniques and where to get certain aftermarket parts and pieces. Thank you for sharing! I do have a question. What is your method for bending the styrene for the cage and chassis? Do you localize heat it? If so, what tools do you use?  Thank you in advance. I will definitely be following along on this build.

    Dave

thank you for your wonderful comment Dave

when I bend my styrene rod, I use a candle. I hold the part 3.5 or 4 inches away just enough to make it bend without distorting the diameter or stretching the plastic. it takes verry little heat.

    hope this helps!

thanks marcos! I've got a couple on hand.  if you'd like one let me know

  3. made some small progress last week. printed up a set of mirrored turbos and some mandrel bends. made a new headder collector and assembled the headders, turbos, bov, and intake tubes. the headders look much better to me and are closer together. ill just need to do the bullhorns on the body to finish them up

So, I rolled out of bed and thought I'd just whip up an engine today in CAD........yeah, that's it..........SERIOUSLY Jason, that is pretty darn sweet not only that you can do such work but do it so quickly.  You're very talented.   Love the position of the turbos too.  The entire car looks great and has a realistic look about it that is hard to get in 1/25th.   congrats. tim

hey Tim, it took some time to learn but really happy with the results. I have learned enough to fall down the rabbit hole of 3d. I appreciate your comments watching you and the others build these cars is really inspiring and always gotta get out of the comfort zone and try new stuff!

  5. well I've gotten carried away with this project i decided to try and make an engine in CAD took a couple weeks and a few test prints but I'm really happy with it. I'll have to fix the valve covers because they have no bolts.

  6. i was really stuck on the front suspension so I remade the front suspension to be more realistic. properly lifting it instead of just blocking up the crossmember. made new strut towers and crossmember still need to lake the tiebreaker for the lower control arms and a skid plate.

Your new valve covers are very beautiful Jason!  They're 3D printed, I guess, if so what technology do you have FDM or SLA?   What do you use as CAD software?  You have a nice twin turbo setup by the way, as others have mentioned. ?

thanks Francis! they are 3d printed. I'm using a resin 3d printer had have been doing work with auto desk fusion 360. ended up making a whole new engine for twin turbo should have the final parts finished soon. may end up doing a swap

You're doing an amazing work man, you have a good direction on this, i have a question, what size of styrene tubing or rod are you using, i did use evergreen #222 on my roll bars and chassis work, for me they are easier to work with at this scale...

marcos, my frame and main bars are #212 .080 the the supports/gussets are #222 1/16 and the rest is #221 3/64 and thank you!

I build 1/1 street rods and Pro-Touring for a living... and I must say your steering rack is spot-on. Even the retainers on the pinion case are spot-on. World class, really!

  11. OLD vs NEW

made some new valve covers for the 932

    old:

    20210113_214158.thumb.jpg.785fa15e4ed404f070e22c96652fca30.jpg

made some headders, downpipes and charge tubes and firewall panels. headders need some fine tuning and cleanup but they don't look to bad and they clear everything which was a task in itself.
