  1. Nicely done , I wonder what other micellaneous items can be used for bodies (food for thought for yet another CBP perhaps ?) .
  2. I thought it'd make a cool looking engine and it does . Go on Jim , you know you want to do it
  3. Thank's guy's , the Fujimi mini's are kerbside unfortunately and the bodies are less detailed than the Tamiya ones but still worth doing (I have another three to do yet too ) .
  4. Several times when I've bought mini motors (complete motor , gearbox, diff unit) cheap I've taken the passenger seat out (two bolts with wingnuts is all it takes) and sat the motor on the floor where the seat was . Ratchet strap from the seatbelt mounts and it's set One I took about 350 klms like that and it travelled well . The motor unit weighs about 150 kgs and is pretty stable . Another time I did 900 klm in the sports850 with essentially another mini (bought a restoration project , the body went in a furniture truck , the rest in the mini) in pieces in it . I have photo's somewhere of it loaded and then everything from it laid out on the floor of the garage . I only had the space of the drivers seat and all the stuff weighed around 450kg (with me the load was the same weight as the mini itself ...) .
  5. Come on Jim , you know you want to convert a corvair flat 6 into an air cooled straight 6 for this build ...
  6. Firstly , I'd like to offer my condolences to you and your family . My thoughts for this is perhaps to talk to a fiberglassing company about casting the model inside a cube/pyramid/sphere of something like this , http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plastic-a/c5_1120_1156/index.html (I have no idea on this product , just found it by google) , perpaps with the sunward side (here the northerly side cops most sun damage , is it the southerly side for you guys ???) painted or shielded in some way for more protection ?
  7. Well I found another old unfinished build so will bring it into here , somewhere around 1996 I started this one but the white paint bled under the tape and my nice shiny green painthad huge white dribbles on it so it got put back in the box till I could find out how to strip it ... Well , now I've found out so here it is after being cleaned and scrubbed (no idea what paint I used back then but it refused to come off ...) and ready for primer . It's sitting on some original sales brochures I have for the full size mini that it's modelled off so have plenty of resource material . If anyone is ever after resource material for mini builds give me a yell , I have over a hundred brochures from around the world starting in 1959 up to around 1997 , I'm happy to scan and email anything anyone is after .
  8. Sounds great , a previous dog ended up with one side bright red when I painted one of my 1:1 mini's years ago ... It spent 6 or so months on stands in the garage while I was working on it and she had a habit of sleeping underneath it , I thought she would have moved when the compressor kicked in and didn't think to check , she lay there for the whole coat and was still asleep when I finished . I agree though , where's the photo of yours ?
  9. That club Dio is amazing , especially when it's all mounted on a surfboard .
  10. I'm a bit far away to trade I'm afraid Jonathan , but would really appreciate it if you could check the measurements of some to see how close they are to what I'm after ?
  11. Excellent work Charles , I love your attention to the small details like the birdsnest in the headlight bucket .
  12. Thank's guy's , Bart , I didn't think of other types of slicks other then from hotrods , I'll have a look at Nascar ones as well . Dave , I built a winged speedway car many years ago , never thought of the smaller wheel from it , will seee if I can find it for size comparrison . Thank's Casey , more to have a look at
  13. That's a great build and a cool concept , well done .
  14. Those wheels look great Lawrence , love the detail . Hope you can sort the paint out on that Jonthan , it looks too good to start again . The weather held long enough to get the wheels painted and on the FJ , but not enough to take it outside and photograph it (rained all long weekend with a friend and her kids staying here with my two as well so definitely no model time , was good fun though) .
  15. No worries Andy , that Crossley must have been an odd looking vehicle Thank's Casey , I'll have a bit of a search for those slicks , I didn't think of 1:25 scale to be a bit smaller . I'm also searching through a slotcar site now for other alternatives as well . Where there ever any 1:35 scale drag cars produced ? Not that I've ever seen Christian but I'll have a search (plus it'll be a good one to build with different wheels after stealing it's wheels too ) , thank's . Thank's Roger , I'll have a look for them too . I'm also waiting for a reply from the parts box to see what they have .
  16. Looks great Paul , that's a really nice shine
  17. WOW , I wasn't expecting that colour but it looks cool , is it going to be solid colour or are there highlights planned ? I was only just thinking of what colour I'd paint one after your last post but never thought of a minty green like that (just looked back at your photo's and see the can of green paint sitting behind it , how did I miss that ) .
  18. Not sure what they are from I'm afraid Casey , They came from a kit in the late 80's , was a pro stock squarish 80's chev from memory .
  19. The problem is that wheel combo won't physically fit under the body width wise or diameter wise otherwise I'd use them
  20. The Lambo's looking great , they still attract my eye more than any modern supercar does .... Huge thankyou to Paul , the wheels arrived safely today and are perfect . Hopefully tomorrow the weather will be kind and I'll get a chance to paint and fit them and the FJ will be done .
  21. Morning all , I'm looking for some wheels and drag slicks to use on this build , the body is from my first attempt at a drag mini over 20 yearss ago and the chassis is from a lot of plastic I got in a swap (yes Marshie , I'm onto this one now) . The slicks I had used before are too big , they measure 35mm in diameter and 20mm wide each tyre . The space I have inside the body/chassis is for wheels 30mm in diameter and total width 46mm (but have to fit the diff as well as the wheels so probably can get away with a wheel/tyre that's 15mm wide and 30mm diameter . Has anyone got any ideas what kit would have something this size that I can find down here (in Aus , bit too far away to trade with anyone up there so more looking for info than a trade) ? Also after advice on some smaller fronts too , these are 25mm diameter by 5mm wide , the width is fine but a bit smaller diamter would look better . Thank's for the input .
  22. That's really cool , love the way you married the two shells together .
