  1. I sold mine. Have regrets still, but I would never do it justice. Half and half is the way to go. Maybe do a cutaway engine?
  2. Wow , 10 pounds of McLaren in a 9 pound box. Nice packing Mark!

    Dome Zero RL

Nice job on a hard-to-finish kit. The details really make it pop!
  4. A little progress... I've shaped a single fuselage out of modeling clay and shot it next to a mirror to simulate its counterpart. Issues: 1) What to do next. Possibility #1 is to make a mould out of plaster of each fuselage half, then cast a copy to use as a shape for vacuum forming. Possibility #2 is to take that same plaster mould and lay fiberglass cloth and resin on the inside of it. At any rate, I figure great female moulds will be key to making this thing symmetrical. 2) I think I'll graft the headlight (including long horizontal strake) and tail light areas from the 2 kits I bought instead of trying to shape them out of clay. 3) I have to find out a way of working the rear fender arrow motifs into the car too. Also the rise just aft of the B-pillar. No solution yet, but for the long horizontal chrome trim on the rear fenders, I'm thinking of making that just a groove, maybe to intake air. I dunno. 4) It looks too "race-car" still. Maybe changing the shape of the cockpit surround. Again, I dunno. Lost and searching, as usual...
  5. I'm new to this post. wOw... that was brilliant Ira, to graft on those those side pieces! The result just looks "right." (saved a lot of work too, way to go.)
  6. Hey, That's a nice job!
  7. That is some tasty looking paint job!!
  8. I agree with Dirk. Green is so unexpected, but so appropriate. And the smart white interior plus the BBS's make it the most refreshing take on a Countach that I've seen in a long long time. Nice design sense! You should be proud.
  9. WOW Austin, that's terrific !!!!! Many more awards in your future I think...
  10. Roncla, add my comments to all of those above. Great piece! I love the subtlety of the colors chosen, the glosses, sheens, and flats. Oh, and the headers, they are brilliant A+++
  11. Nice nostalgic color combination! Yes, I agree with Gus, some stuff in the back would look great; maybe a vintage toolbox?
  12. Geoff, I love seeing that square on the wheel! You have a nice, tight building style. And ditto again, about your great sense of color :)
  13. Romell's right! By the way, Radio Shack has a very skinny-diameter solder called "Silver Bearing Solder" that works well for me. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062725 Also, I use one of those small hand-held butane torches instead of an iron. Best of luck!
  14. Pretty interesting kit I've only read the controversy about... Looks like you are taming it ))) Sounds like the end will be like stuffing a packed suitcase (wink)
  15. Wow, good thinking David! Hmm... I never thought of that approach. OK, I'm back to the drawing board. PS: Your signature quote = so true.
  16. Two cents worth---> As for me, I'd like to see some great wording on the panels. Ficticious business, real business; I like the commercial aspect.
  17. I too, remember that kit and have a fondness for it. Beautiful job you did
  18. Aha! Thank you doctor. I have not only a penchant for cover songs, I even have a S.N.Z. CD somewhere here. Zany. ...minutes pass... Hahahahaa .. I LOVE "I Get Around", "Mercy" hell I love them all. btw Have you heard of Don Tiki? Not similar but you make appreciate... Now, back to our program:
  19. Of course I can tell Dr., that you feel good tunes are an essential part of good modeling. I saw your blue Cobra video (nice! shiny!) .. enjoyed it, but also enjoyed your soundtrack just as much. Now who is it that is doing that cover of "Been a Long Time?" or is it called "Rock and Roll" as on the first Led Zeppelin album?
  20. The "rocket red" has changed over the years it was active. I know that the red and white paint for the Penske PC-18 was manufactured by PPG. But the red of the era McLaren you are building was far more orange looking in person. By contrast, the fluorescent red of a 1990s Senna McLaren was far redder and more similar to the Penske color.
  21. The yellow Tamiya masking tape cuts a pretty fine line. Also there's this stuff I sometimes use called Parafilm. It's reeealy stretchy and will conform to just about any shape you put under it. http://www.micromark...ilm-m,7551.html Not cheap anymore i notice...lol Heres an idea that may or may not work. What if you waited until the paint is really dry, lightly sand down the rough edge, then take a thin strip of clear decal film which you've painted with the same fluorescent red and lay it over the edge, it might do the trick. Since the color breaks are all straight on that McLaren, it might work. I don't know if the paint will melt the decal film, gotta test that, but just thinking out loud ... lalalalala Oh PS: If you can rig up an X-acto knife with two parallel blades, you can cut nice even-width strips from the decal film. You just have to figure out how wide you want them to be before you make the knife.
  22. Mark, You probably know about this site, but I found some good pix of, not the A, but the M8F, at Gurneyflap (3rd car down): Maybe it can provide some surface detail refs if your are doing curbside. http://www.gurneyflap.com/canam.html
