  1. Hi all, Well I finally got around to making a 77 Dodge Charger funny car body and its ready to be molded to get me some resin copies and get a good thin body to make some decals for. I've always liked this body but got tired of waiting for someone to produce one that I can buy. I started with what I believe is a 78 Monaco resin body then started cutting and fabricating it to were its now a Charger. It just seems to be more interesting to build cars you don't really see, thanks to companies like Competition Resins that mass produce many different bodies for filing that gap. I really want to make the Tommy Ivo car and the Mr Norms Charger into reality. I'll keep you posted, Thanks
  2. Hi all, Just finished awhile ago with these dual builds and i thought I'd post this for all to check out. It was a fun build for the sake of just seeing how things change over roughly 20 years. I started the 70 Max with the Polar lights kit, really only using the body and then tweaking it more to what I thught how the car should look. Slightly longer hood, flatten the nose and I think i shortened the roof as well.I made a Don Hardy chassis for it (see my earlier post from 2019 pleading for help) complete with working front springs. I put a revell hemi in it,custom headers more correct tires as well.I did custom tin work as well as making custom decals using what I could with what came with the kit. The 1989 Trans Am I started with a resin body I got from somewhere, made the necessary corrections and remolded it.I used a late model chassis, engine, and rims.I made a new fuel cell, custom headers, and tinwork. I made custom decals and finally got to use my Ghost white laser toner to print white on clear decal paper Yay!.Thanks for looking
  3. WOW ,nice job, color is dead on
  4. I think the body I have is a rework of the monogram kit, body lines, are all different, same wheelbase. The roof seems a little too low but I'll take a closer look when I get to it,maybe remold it
  5. Thank you all for the great compliments, It really helps keep me going. Yes I did make my own decals on clear inkjet decal film using Photoshop.
  6. Wow!I am thoroughly blown away . Thank you so much for the help I think I can get what info I was missing . Thanks again Dragcarz,Afx,and Magicmustang for the help. Im on my way to start smashing things together a lot more coherently.
  7. Just fantastic John, cant wait to see it all done . amazing my friend!
  8. Hi All, I'm putting out a call for some reference help to get more info or pics of a 69 Don Hardy chassis. My next builds I want to do are the first and last Blue Max funny cars . I'm starting the first Blue Max car with the Polar lights kit and the chassis supplied is not what was under the body. The only pic I could find is pretty grainy and I could use some help with more info. The body has some fixing to do, front air dam, cut door panel lines, fill out side vents a little and add a center-line detail on top of the hood. Any help I would be very grateful.
  9. Hi All ... I Just recently finished my companion dragster rail build that raced at the same time Dale Armstrong's Alcohol funny car did. There are some W I P pictures in an earlier post. The fun stuff was making poseable front wheels ,the one piece vacuumed formed body panels and the decals . I used Photoshop to make the decals on clear inkjet film and painting chrome under the Dale Anderson name area on the body, then the decal over the top of that. Thanks for lookin'. And yes I was surprised to see funny car headers on a dragster
  10. Thanks , I always try to build the car not the kit. I believe the kits are usually 75 to 80% there and its up to you to tweak it till its right.
  11. Hi all, got a quick update. I got the chassis painted, I have the seat and pedals roughed in. I have the engine painted and back together and ready to put final details on it. Thanks for looking
  12. Another truly fanastic job! Great detail, could swear its the real deal. Can't wait to see it with my own eyes.
  13. Oh , I also have made my vacuform buck to make the body skins. All i did was glue all the body panels from the Jeb Allen kit together and filled the inner void with bondo. I then do a little bodyshop work making more useful for future builds that may have skins that go all the way back to the rear tires. I should get a good one piece body using .020 polystyrene plastic that i can cut back to the car tin shape. Also I can scribe in panel lines and re section the skins for an exposed cockpit or whatever. thanks for looking.
  14. Hi All, Got a quick update on what I've been up to. I have the engine and trans roughed out using some stock parts and some resin bits to get to the cars configuration more true. I have the firewall done as well as the top of the roll cage and seat that is vacuum formed so I can bend it and get it in the roll cage . As far as the cock pit controls I'm using best guess cause the reference pics I have don't really show that area real well. Now I'm off to final sanding and fitting to get stuff painted. thanks for looking.
  15. Great job and fantastic build! I to ran into the same underwhelment of the AMT kit. I absolutely loved the car so I decided to do a remake for myself. I did the box stock version and what I saw as a truer version which AMT could of saved me the trouble many years ago. Again great job on a tough kit
  16. How very cool. Oddly enough ,that is going to be my next project car after I get the dale armstrong rail dragster done. If you need ref pics I took a ton of them of the Ivo car that's at the NHRA museum. Let me know if you could use some.
  17. Hi guys, I have a couple of updates, I think I have the rear wing worked out. I used styrene for the uprights cause they have an oval shape to the pole more like modern struts. I used polished stainless steel .032 rod and found some real small aluminum tubing to make the rod ends. I think it looks good for budget concerns. I also have put in a brace for the parachute mount. I have also started the beginnings of the fuel cell which for some reason is located behind the driver seat. Thanks for looking
  18. So I started with the front axle, I wanted to lower the front to match the car stance a little better and then what the hell and made it position able. The front solid wheels are from an old McEwen build, don't know if I'm going to use them. I also got the rear brass work coming together pinning the plastic chassis to the hollow brass tube.
  19. Hi all, Now that I have the funny car done I'm diving into the companion alcohol dragster. I'm using bits and pieces from a 1/25 Jeb Allen TF kit. As we all know we can only add as much detail as that can be seen in reference pics we all hunger for. The build will be pretty straight forward and I'm doing brass from the seat back and a working brass front axle. Thanks for looking.
  20. Absolutely beautiful work! If the photo was in black and white I'd accuse you of just posting a pic of the real car. Nice job again.
  21. Thanks for all the terrific responses. It really helps me keep going and Fun-E-Car I got the front and rear Cragars from Futurattraction Cragar super trick W-CST1-4S , really nice wheels
  22. IBorg, In answer to a few questions, I made the decals with Photoshop and an Canon iP7220 inkjet printer with clear film. I painted the back of the car alclad white aluminum, bright candy silver under the stripes and Molotow chrome paint under the Dale area and laid the decals over that and the chassis is modified plastic. The body is right to use for the ALCOHOLIC car , the only mods to it are reducing the front wheel humps and making a roll cage hump in the rear window. Thanks again for the copliments
