That is so sweet, my teeth hurt! Nice build, reminds me of my Dad's. He bought a used on in '60, grey. Loved that ol beast

Thanks guys, I didn't know if it required special treatment or what. I imagine I'll use it sometime, but these particular colors are fluorescent and I have nothing I'd use them on in my stash.

    Polycarbonate Paints
I recently picked up a few Pactra paints for Polycarbonate in a bulk purchase on everyone's favorite auction site. Having never used them, I'm curious as to if they can be used on styrene. I'm kinda thinking that as long as the styrene is primed, it should be ok, but don't want to waste a good kit to ruined body. Does anyone have experience in using these paints? Any tips or things to avoid? BTW, these are in rattle cans, if that makes any difference.

    Thanks, John

Nice ride, Eric. I'm waiting for mine to arrive in the mail. This build is also going to be my first attempt in detailing...wiring, plumbing and polishing. Hope it comes out as good as yours did!

Thanks guys! I kinda thought they were decent from all the pics I've seen on eBay, but I've never seen one built. It looks like I have something to look forward to when they get here. Hey Bernard, where can I get one of those engine stands? I had one a gazillion yrs. ago, but I'll be dipped if have it now. Got rid of all my 60's and 70's kits when I got married in '79 Sure do wish I still had 'em...sigh

    Thanks again gents,

I just picked up 2 of these on eBay for basically a song. I got a Chevy 283 and a Pontiac 421. I thought it was cool that they offered a couple of versions of these motors to make things a little more interesting. How many of you guys have used these and what can I expect for detail? Not all that fond of the "all chrome" idea, but I can paint to suit if I need/want to. What say the masses? Should I just relegate them to the parts box, of use them in a build?

    Thanks, John

Might it be a vacuum canister?

If you have a "gourmet dog", those lil plastic containers their food comes in work well for all kinds of stuff. I also use Hillshire Farms deli meat containers for storage and stripping smaller parts. I also like to organize my spare parts in ziploc bags then store them in a shoebox sized tote.

Good deal, Nick. I also quit from 1982 to 1999, then went back to my "crutch" when I was going through my 1st divorce and the passing of my Dad right in the middle of it all.

My main hobby is woodworking, then fishing, followed by listening to good rock and roll. Unfortunately I am finding I can't do the first two too much anymore, thus my re-emergence into modeling. Yrs of beating the hell out of my lungs is taking its' toll. Can't do the things I loved doing.

advice to others: if you don't smoke, don't ever start. If you do smoke, quit now! Don't wait til you can't breathe anymore.

My Dr. said I had to listen to something different. Last time I did the head bangin thing, I ended up in traction for 4 months. Into more mellow stuff these days, especially Floyd, Zeppelin...late 60's to mid70's R&R

  12. madisonwoodsmith added a post in a topic How much $ do you put in a kit?

I haven't actually built a kit yet, but have a small stash of 40 kits and a few boxes of junkyard parts I got on Ebay. All tolled, probably $5-600 tied up so far, including tools and finishing supplies. When I do finally get back to building, I plan to do box stock builds at first and go from there.

Now, my primary hobby is another story. Being a woodworker/cabinetmaker, I have acquired quite an arsenal over the past 35 yrs. I probably have at least $10k in tools, accessories and supplies along with another $6-7K in lumber inventory. Now, mind you, if I was a pro, these figures could easily triple.

Ok, so what's the difference between buffing and non-buffing? This 40 yr absence from modeling has so many questions being raised...and I haven't even started a kit yet!

    Thanks, John

Thanks a bunch guys. I kinda figured the AMT wasn't worth much and the Revell kit would offer more detail and whatnot. @Bill..Nice build! Does this not have mirrors? or did you delete them?

    Thanks again, John
