Scale I Build

  1. Hi guys. Today I share a rare Cadillac I have in my collection. As we know, the 1960 Cadillac promos ( as well as many from 1958 to 1962 ) are all deformed and warped now, but since kit versions were not produced with the same material, some are still straight, like mine. I have replaced the original wheels with the ones from the '59 Eldorado Monogram's kit, which are way more accurate. This Cadillac needs a bit of work and detailing but overall is worth to show its fins !. Hope you'll like it.
  2. I love all aspects of car culture, but I really do admire the artistry and devotion that goes into lowriders. I can safely say my next few builds will be either bombs or lowriders. I love playing with colours and tape.! I added subwoofers and a switch box and dropped the rear end as far as it would go. I hope you like it, even if it isn't your bag
  3. Officially starting this project today (Jan. 14). Been planning to build this anyway, but the GSL Common Kit is Tamiya's excellent kit of the 1966 Beetle, so that has lit the fire under me. Other than the typical masking to airbrush several colors challenge, the ski rack and back-dating some details is going to be fun. I'm also going to weather it, with the cool ice. Another first for me, will be using Splash paint. I got the Best Model Car Parts 1957 Beetle conversion last year, but the rules state no resin bodies, so that will be for their first Bug. But I can use the engine lid and wheels. Early VW wheels have no slots, the Hasegawa Bus wheels are also slotted, but I can use the hubcaps and skinny tires. There is another detail that has haunted me, when I get the package, will comment then. An interesting detail is the mirror location, the primary picture is on the dash, but other pictures are the normal location. Only one exterior mirror, which will be the right one located on the left side. The front turn signals are too big, considering making out of clear sprue. The taillights need to be smaller, might make out of red sprue. It looks like the steering wheel needs to be modified to not be deep dish. I just learned the windows were increased in size after 1960, but that will guarantee doom, just opening the vent window should be enough to distract the rivet counters. Now I'm committed (for a mental institution?). Primary reference picture.
  4. Hi everyone, Here's a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. This beautiful resin kit was created by Shawn Carpenter, based and converted from the Monogram-Revell 59 Eldorado. I built it at least 10 years ago. This is an extremely rare kit and at the time of purchase, it was already hard to find. Although she's presentable, that Cadillac will receive a complete restauration, as my skills were so-so back then. Need a new paint, clear coat, cleaned windshield and new bare metal trims. I don't have any further informations on Shawn Carpenter nor its creations so if anyone of you have some, please feel free to share. Hope you'll like the pics. Cheers.
  5. I as at a car show today and saw this 17k mile 1960 Pontiac Ventura. Does anyone know if there is a resin body of this out there.
  6. Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and this is my 2nd post here. I've been lurking on this forum for a few months and I must say you guys sure have talent! I've picked up a few tricks here and for that I'm greatful! I just started this Impala today. The body is Duplicolor Chrysler gold. The interior is Duplicolor GM red. The wheels came from a 1/25 scale R/C Camaro - Maisto I think. The idea came from watching Iron Resurrection on the Velocity channel. Thanks for looking. Stay Tuned...
  7. hi everyone, just thought I would share some info regarding the recently issued MPC 60 vette......I am unable to provide pics, as the camera and photographer in my life is no longer in my life, so if anyone out there wants to jump in with pictures, that would be helpful.....seems quite crisp in general, some flash on the white parts trees, but nothing radical. chrome is very nice, with little flash, and clean and bright. tires are 4 stock blackwall polyglas style, but not lettered. slicks are the pie crust MH variety and lettered as in several other Round2 kits. body is very nice, little flash. decal sheet is exactly as the original, with the addition of a few more product sponsors like Howards cams, etc. basically, its every bit as sweet as the original in that all the goodies are included....tow bar, driver figure, rally equipment, skis, the works. the only slight difference I notice are the front coil springs, as the originals had working metal coils, where this has white plastic ones. all the parts are nicely bagged, and the kit has a fold up mini box too. again, sorry I can't provide pics, but any and all questions will be gladly answered.....I have always had a soft spot for this kit dating back to the summer of 69 when I received one as a gift......its just as nice now, I think the MPC guys like myself, and the Corvette guys will love it...thanks again, to the Kats at Round2...........best regards to everyone,....the Ace........
  8. The stock 1960 Starliner by 70mach1 here on the Under Glass forum is gorgeous! Here's a different take on the same kit. I built this for the H.A.M.B. jalopyjournal.com (website for pre-'64 traditional hot rods and customs) custom model contest in 2011. It came in a distant second place in the radical custom class online voting by the mostly 1:1 forum members. The AMT '60 Ford kit body was pie-cut to create a wedge shape, as seen from above, but in such a way that that the front and rear of the car did not become V shaped. The bubble top and interior are from the Revell "Big Daddy" Roth Beatnik Bandit. My idea was to build something that might have been a Ford concept car in about 1957 to see how the public would respond to some of the 1960 styling cues. Paint is a custom mix of House of Color silver-white pearl and Trueblue pearl with several clear coats of Pledge (Future) floor finish. Here are some views of the body during construction. It's a curbside model but this shows the basics. I later removed the engine and only attached the air cleaner to the body. To see the other entries in the H.A.M.B. contest, go to http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=596428 -- mine is the Radical Custom #8 entry.
