Scale I Build

  1. Hey folks... Finished two more early this week. First is this rare Airfix kerb-side from 1992. TBH not a great kit, fits where it touches, rides waaaayy too high and generally short of any meaningful detail. That said I only know of one other kit of the stunning 3.5CSL so... Paint is Tamiya TS20 'Metallic Green' over Panzer Grey, decals are by Studio 27 and were fantastic. Three coats of Tamiya Clear followed by a good, long session with the Turtle Wax and it's still not a deep enough shine. Ahhh well it looks great in the cabinet alongside my NASCAR builds. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Ian.
  2. Hey folks, back with another non-NASCAR vehicle project: This time the excellent Revell ’65 Stepside. No chrome, low-profiles or carbon ceramic discs on this one, just good old sheet steel and skinny cross-plies and brakes the size of milk-bottle tops. Built straight from the box and painted in Tamiya acrylics (my own mix), great relaxing build with no vices apart from the bonnet/hood that doesn’t match the contours of the main body – apparently a common problem with this ‘family’ of molds, but I guess most folks here know that already - I didin't !. No matter I thoroughly enjoyed it. As ever please feel free to ask any questions or make any comments or criticisms. More soon, stay tuned. Ian.
  3. After a l-o-n-g gestation period, finally finished the Esci Ferrari. Definitely not my best work but whilst 50% of that is down to my lack of skills, the other 50% is down to the poor quality of the kit itself. That said, if you want an 'affordable' 1:24 'Berlinetta' on your shelf as much as I did, then this is pretty much the only way to go unless you are lucky enough to stumble upon an Italeri or Gunze kit. Ok, enough yada, yada, yada on to the pics: Thanks for taking the time to look, criticise and/or comment. Not sure what my next car build will be, but the Revell 458 Italia is looking very, very tempting, but then so is the AMT/Ertl '67 Comet !! AFN Ian.
  4. Day one: The usual box & contents shot - The Esci plastic dates back to the mid 1980's and is quite soft, massive mould seams running along the top of the wings, then along the roof gutters down the middle of the C-pillar across the top of the rear wings and through the middle of the tail-light bezels. What a PitA But not as much a pain as the integrally moulded bonnet that you need to cut from the body and that frankly awful thick lip on the bonnet scoop - that will be thinned right down. I built-up the engine & trans which sensibly goes together exactly the same way as a Revell or MPC car kit. Interior is multi-part as is the engine bay. I also assaulted the poor wee thing with a coat of Tamiya grey primer straight from the rattle-can ready for some serious seam-removal. More in a min... Ian.
  5. Monogram 'Dirt Devil' kit built straight from the box with the superb Powerslide decals. The 'Harvest Yellow' was mixed by eye with Tamiya acrylics and several light coats sprayed with my Iwata at low pressure, the black is (again) Tamiya acrylic but blasted straight from the rattle-can. Working still on the Wright Brothers Chevy, but also started stripping and re-working a '98 Taurus aswell, not sure which you'll see finished first out of those two. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Ian.
  6. Hi this is a my build thread of my WIP 1:24 scale bobber. I started with a 2002 Harley sportster replica, pulled it apart and stared building a custom frame, Im using the same technique I've used in customizing 1:1 scale bobbers just this is trickier because i have to plasti-weld this frame not Tig it LOL, so far i feel like im off to a good start im looking forward to posting more pixs soon but heres what Ive got
  7. Hi my name is Dru Green I'm From Chickamauga GA, and I build 1:1 scale hot rods and customs as my main hobby but in my spare time I love building 1:24 and 1:25 scale model hot rods. my favorite thing to do is think out side of box stock. I enjoy kit bash as well as Diorama... I have yet to build a full on Diorama my only experiences with it is a few trailers made out of scrap polystyrene, wood, and left over wheels and tires, I like swapping engines and once as a kid even built a shade tree style A-Frame for pulling engines and looked like I was swapping the engine out of my 69 Camaro. Good times Im looking to get in to resin casting and model building for some of my rare and hard to find models as well as some of my scratch build stuff Thanks to all on the forum
  8. This car has been sitting in a case for a couple years now, but I want to actually build something for me for a change. So i'm going to try to get this and a couple other cars done in time for NNL 2012. This car is going to take some work. It was an early prototype that i used to test parts and work some things out. A lot of parts are going to have to be replaced throughout.. but it's a start.
  9. Hi there, I'm new on here but have really got into modelling in the last few months and have successfully completed a 1:24 scale '05 Subaru Impreza (Monte Carlo spec) and a Mclaren MP4-25 (Lewis Hamilton). For Christmas my lovely partner bought me the Tamiya 1:24 scale '98 Toyota Corolla (Rally Catalunya - Carlos Sainz) among other cars. I have recently started work on it but wanted to add a touch more realism to this one. One aspect i wanted to change was the exhaust heat shielding on the underside. The instructions suggest painting it a flat aluminium colour, which is easy enough, but i thought about using aluminium foil to create a more realistic effect. My question is, actually i have two: Whats the best way of keeping it flat and moulding it to the underside and 2, what the best way to fix it in position as normal plastic - plastic glues won't stick metal to plastic. Many thanks in advance. Dan
