Scale I Build

  1. This was a really simple kit from Academy. It's not really detailed, but builds into a nice but basic model. No engine detail. It's not really finished, the lenses need to be added, but they are terrible, they look like goggles & distort the lights underneath, so I've going to do something with them later. For now, it's on display! There is a WIP post in the appropriate place if you're interested... Comments welcome.
  2. A high dollar 3 day road trip to support the Phoenix Art Museum. Always has a bunch of interesting cars. https://whulsey.smugmug.com/Cars/2016-04-10-Copperstate-1000/
  3. I finished this one a few weeks back and just wanted to show a few pictures. Here is a list of the stuff used 430 challenge kit Hobby Design detail set. Well worth the money. Scale Motorsports carbon decals Tamiya dtm kit tires for the slicks. Kit comes with street tires. Why? Don't know Tamiya paints.
  4. I thought I would share my latest project. This is Fujimi's Ferrari F430 Challenge kit. I fell in love with the livery the moment I saw it. It was not an easy kit to find. It had been out of production when I learned about it. A buddy of mine found it on eBay for me and I hit the "Buy It Now" button immediately...lol. Progress will be slow due to a ridiculous work load at work. I began by working on the body. No complaints on the molding. The entire kit appears to be very well done. I re-scribed all of the panel lines. After shooting the first coat of primer I found a few areas that needed a little more work. Once I was satisfied with the body work, I shot Tamiya gloss black right out of the can. My first attempt left way more orange peel than I am used to. I let the paint cure and I shot several heavier coats right over the top of the previous coats. The paint leveled out nicely, with no runs, but I ended up get a few specks of dust in the paint. I had to polish it out. I will mask off sharp edges to prevent burning through the paint when I polish out the paint.
  5. I'm starting this kit too, in an effort to get through the stash. It's going to be made with a P/E set. Sprue shots to follow.
  6. The Revell Ferrari California. Paint is Tamiya. Click HERE for a look at the build process... (2012)
  7. Fujimi Ferrari 348tb curbside kit. I recently found this kit, which I didn't remember starting years ago. Since the body was painted, all I had to do was detail the interior & body, and put it all together. Not perfect, but nice. (2010)
  8. Monogram Ferrari 512TR. This is a level 3 kit, and for good reason. The whole rear chassis has a lot of parts that need to fit correctly. I tried building a few different Testarossa kits year ago, and none had good side-strake detail. This is the only kit I have seen in person that pulls the whole thing off. Wheels and tires could be better, but this is an older kit, after all. Click HERE for a look at the build process... (2010)
  9. I'm back to work on trying to finish up my challenge car. The chassis is just about done ,only a few things to add to the motor. The decals are a bit on the thick side and need a BUNCH of decal set to get them to wrap around the nose. Hope too have this done by the weekend and on too something else.
  10. Just finished this Hasegawa Ferrari 328 GTB. Mostly OOB except for PE window wipers and some adhesive-backed felt to simulate the interior carpeting. Hope you enjoy!
  11. Just purchased this bad boy from eBay: I was feeling nostalgic over the kit that was gifted to me back when I was 13. My skills were very modest back then, but I remember that I was able to turn out a half decent build out of it. With that said, I wasn't able to find much reviews/feedback on this kit. Any one have any feedback to give while I wait for Canada Post to deliver my most recent purchase? Also, I noticed that the Tamiya version of the F50 is also 1:24 scale. Its been my impression that the Japanese manufactures tend to lean towards the 1:25 side. Are there any family ties or relationship between the Tamiya kits, Revell of Germany, and the old '95 Revell/Monogram? I would have preferred to build either the Tamiya or Revell of Germany versions, but the price kind of drove me to look for the "vintage" '95 issue. Look forward to your feedback!
  12. After my orange Enzo I'm back at it. I always liked these kits. Easy to build and with a bit extra they look quite well when done. I started on the interior a few days ago and here is the progress. The door panels have had the centers removed. The belts are Scale Motorsports. I'm using the Hobby Design detail set for this car. It has the "shark teeth design on the nose
  13. Well, it's finally done after sitting in the closet since around '99. I managed to get PE parts for it too as I was starting this discontinued kit. I got them in four days. Here it is with lots of pix. Thanks for looking.

    Ferrari enzo

I was able to finish it. Just in time for it to leave for a contest in the am. It's the usual Tamiya kit with Tamiya gold as a base. Met. Orange was sprayed over top with Testors wet look clear. The carbon decals are from Scale Motorsports. Heat shield foil is from MFH. Will post better pictures later. Thanks for looking.
  15. Just some update photos on my progress. Trying to finish this by Friday . Fingers crossed. I have not picked a wheel color yet. Maybe a grey color?
  16. With my McLaren gt3 done and a bunch of free time today I was able to start work on my Enzo again. A Tamiya kit with a Scale Motorsports carbon kit and detail kit. The color is Tamiya gold with met. Orange over top. The clear is Mr. Hobby. Super clear. The body panels are on just for the photo mock up.
  17. this is my third model, another ferrari... my previous model 458 can be seen in my posts, still learning, best kit fit wise i have done but still a few things to work on.. starting the Porsche 918 next week which most excited about as a model iv wanted to build this for a while
  18. Well, I've had this kit since about '99. It was originally $25. So when I decided it was time to build it I researched the car on the net and came across the kit on Ebay for about $150. And I also came across a PE set for it. I sent away for the PE set and got it in four days. Amazing for a collector kit that's not in production any more. Thanks for looking. Here is the box art first: Here is a walk around the chassis with the engine and transaxle installed: Here's closer up on the engine. My ref photos had red plug wires with a white sleeve. I just dipped the wires in white paint:
  19. This has been an on and off project. Scale Motorsports decals and there detail set is being used. Model Factory Hiro heat shielding is on the bulkhead . It was also used on the exhaust to replicate the heat wrap. Then it was weathered with the Tamiya weathering sets. I will post more pics as the build now moves to the front of my line.

    Ferrari f1

A few quick pictures of a project that was a on again off again build. I finished this about a year ago. It's a Revell f1 kit. A good kit for a quick build. Decent detail. The car was built post race winner. Note the light weathering and tire clag. The clag was made by taking an eraser and rubbing it on a sanding stick. It was stained black with some ink. I used a clear glue that I tinted black with the same ink. Then blended it in with chalk. The driver is a Tamiya rally driver with a Different helmet . Helmet details were done with a Sharpie markers.

  22. Attention all 1:8 scale model and Ferrari enthusiasts in the UK, There is company called Hachette which distributes Ferrari magazines week by week, with each magazine, you get pieces of Laferrari parts in 1:8 scale. There are 100 Magazines in total to collect, in order to get all the parts of this beautiful Laferrari diecast model. Unfortunately this product is only sold to Italy and Japan. If you live in the UK and want to get your hands on this fabulous model by collecting it week by week, please let me know because only with enough customer demands the company Hachette can sell it here in the UK. I know for a fact that there are a lot of model collectors here in the UK, so if you are one of them please send me a message saying you are interested in this kit. I have uploaded a link for a video of this model from a Youtube channel called hachettecjp. I have also uploaded a few images of this model that I got from Google images. Apologies if the resolution is low, I couldn't find any high resolution images.
  23. Hello Everyone, my first post... this is my last build of 2015 the Revell Ferrari Aperta S.A. in baby blue made with enamels and aqua colors of revell, hope you enjoy! thanks for watching!!
  24. On the bench is my first "Full" build 1/12 Tamiya Ferrari 312T. Very challenging, but a lot of fun. I decided to pull some real photos and try to customize it by adding as many electrical wires and connectors as possible (with my amateur skill) to make it look as real as possible. I also decided to make my own racing seat belt harness but using cloth surgical tape and folding it and painting it. I found some parts to make it also look as real as possible, but still working on it. Hope you guys like the detail.
  25. Good afternoon gents, Here's my first model in a year or so, the Tamiya Ferrari F60. It's my first F1 model and I learned a lot about the construction of these guys. Several parts fought me and I had extreme issues on the front suspension. The paint went well, I'm very happy at the paint I messed several things up during the build. The rear wing was an absolute nightmare. It fell apart several times as I attempted to build it. Then in the process of attempting to attach it to the car it again fell apart. It truly was the most frustrating experience. However, I learned a lot about the use of the carbon fiber decals and have prepared a jig using balsa wood for my in progress Ferrari F310B build. It was a fun first F1 build although I don't believe I did the kit justice. Thanks for looking!
