Scale I Build

Found 9 results

  1. Completed in just a hair over 14hrs. The color is Tamiya metallic blue over Tamiya bright white. The stripes (not the number plaque) are painted. The 24 represents not only the 24 hr build but also the year. No name other than my own is associated with this car. LOL! I have to say this was way out of my realm but, it was a fun build. Please note, the tractor was built after the 24hr deadline.
  2. Hello All, anybody who sees my stuff knows I like weird engines and I like to make oddball cars. So when I first heard of the Howmet turbine engine race cars, I was intrigued. Recently, AMT/Ertl rereleased the MPC Howmet II and I grabbed one up. So this WIP is about my build, with a little editorialization about the kit itself shown here: Inspecting the kit, I noticed the body was finely detailed, with good shut lines and rows of rivets. What wasn't so great (and seems to be common with this body based on photos on the web) is that the rear clamshell does not align well with the front section of the body - mostly owing to warping, and a bit to dimensional inaccuracy. Being that the engine was to be the centerpiece of my build, I looked to the Howmet I kit for inspiration. On the Howmet I, the engine cover has a clear window section giving at least a partial view of the turbine. With this in mind, I made the decision to modify my clamshell with a clear window, and glue the two halves of the body together in alignment. And, I thought, wouldn't it be great if this window was louvered to vent heat (kind of like the Ferrari F40)? But where to find such a "window"? After a bit of looking, I happened on a pair of cheap safety glasses at Hobby Lobby...
  3. Started other projects but put them aside for this. Mpc kit so it’s a handful for fit. But it’s comming out. Here is what I have so far, hope you like. Indycal tires
  4. I'm working on 2 VW beetles. Both are hover cars. They'll be completely different from each other. I stopped working on the first one because I'm really excited about this one. I cut the bug in half down the middle. Then sanded off more than 1/3. Making the turbines from scratch. All from styrene rod and some Ford Raptor rims. When it's complete, I don't believe you'll see the face of the Raptor rims. I only used them for the details that are usually covered by the tires. The backside of the rim. Some moveable rear thrusters for vertical take off and high speed turns. Covering up the old passenger door. I had visions of the Return of the Jedi Speeder bikes. I made the front wings for flight control from the 2 front seats.
