Scale I Build

  1. Just completed! SS badging from the Monte Carlo SS kit... (hard to see) Trim - Gloss Black, Body - Inca Gold, Top - Black Vinyl... Hood stripes - '69 Camaro... "CHEVROLET" lettering - Chevy Pickup kit....
  2. I'm back on cars after a number of truck builds.... this is the AMT kit. I actually like the Supercharger in this kit.... Typical musclecar black interior with silver highlights.... Tamiya Gloss Black basecoat and One-Coat Inca Gold... And Black Vinyl Top to be finished today, followed by silver trim....
  3. Thought I should share some pictures of my current project, a factory stock Chevrolet Blazer.
  4. I haven't done fire decals on a model since I was a kid, so I figured I'd play around with what I've collected. Kit is an AMT Snap kit recently reissued, and I decided to throw on some paints and details to make it better. Entire kit was done in a weekend, even while I was working on my "Phantom" van! Interior was done in Semi Gloss Black and Fabric Gray with silver gauges and trim. Body paint is a mixture of One Coat Firey Red and One Coat Mystical Maroon (maroon color darker at the top half, lighter red at the bottom half...). Undercarriage was a light brushing of aluminum paint for the muffler and piping, and gunmetal for the bottom of the engine (hardly any detail in them anyway...).
  5. Hello, I just finished this model car. Took about a month total, which is the longest I have ever taken to build a model (usually takes me a week to do ). The kit is an AMT 1970 Chevelle SS (Jack Reacher Issue). I used colors from Testor's Special Value Acrylic Paint set. It has the LS6 motor in it. Had a lot of trouble putting on the front bumper, needed to shave headlight openings like instructions suggested but did not go all way due to fear of breaking it. Hood doesn't not fit on properly because I cut it into thirds and glued it back to make hole so the engine could be seen. Scratch-built Modifications include: custom roll cage, side exit exhausts, side view mirrors (kit does not come with any ), windshield decal, and rear spoiler. I had a lot of fun building it, learned a lot. On a scale of "shelf of doom" to "completely awesome" I rate it an overall "meh". Could be much better but I'm really happy with they way it turned out. Thanks for reading! Beep Beep! Here comes the pictures... Non-staged photos: wait there's more...
  6. Hello, I am new here to the forums and this is my first post. After several years away from building model cars as a kid, I recently decided to jump back into the hobby. I am trying to build one model a month and have so far built two cars and two trucks. I will post the trucks in the pick-up truck section. This is my first model after many years. It is a box-stock AMT 2006 Chevrolet Camaro Concept. I painted the exterior with Testor's Purple Gloss and the interior with Black Gloss (kit came molded in red). I painted the roof to look like the car had a T-top. This model was built back in March 2014. Overall, this was fun kit to build and I am fairly happy with the way it turned out. Yeah, I know it looks pretty bad but that's alright with me (first model in years)! This next model is a Revell Dodge Magnum SRT8. The exterior is painted with Testor's Red Gloss and the interior with Red, Silver, and Black Gloss. I personalized this model a bit by painting the fenders, skirts, lower parts of the bumpers, and the tail lights with Black Gloss, which was a pretty big modification for me at the time. This was built in May 2014. I am really happy on how this one turned out. That is all for now. Hope you all liked them! Currently working on a not-box-stock AMT 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS (Jack Reacher Issue). Thanks!
  7. A while ago I posted a topic where I was asking how should I build a Pro Mod car body, as they are far from original bodies. I got excellent responses, and here I am starting my first true Pro Modified build. My plan is to build a car that could actually race and that would be NHRA Legal. This is actually practising for my next Pro Modified Drag Car that will be a '60 Impala. I haven't done much progress yet, but I wanted to post this thread here already and do this as a Step By Step build simply because then the Pro Mod guys on this forum can point out if I make mistakes easily before it's too late to fix them. And when this build is completed some day (It will take a lot of time), hopefully this thread can help other people building their Pro Mods, too. If not, then this thread can be named "How Not To Build A Pro Mod" . So I hope that everyone will point out my mistakes and give advice when I'm in trouble... Constructive criticism is highly appreciated here! Anyway the car I'm building will be '82 Chevy Corvette that I got in a trade a few years ago. It was mainly unstarted, but the previous owner had made some room for wider Drag Slicks by cutting the chassis. At first this was going to be an Outlaw Street car, but because of the poor quality of this kit I decided to make a Pro Mod of it. So this is the kit: As an inspiration I will be using a Corvette Pro Mod from Finland, driven by Marko Lantto. I don't have any measurements or anything like that from his car, but luckily there are pictures in the internet that I can use, and they will sure be helpful in this project. I started by taking a couple of measurements. In Pro Modified, the car's wheelbase must be between 104 and 115 inches. The original wheelbase on '82 Corvette is 98 inches, so it needs to be stretched a little. I will be using Good Year Frontrunner tires on this one, and with them I can make the wheel openings a bit smaller in the front. By moving the front wheels a bit further away, I measured that my model had 100,8 inch wheelbase. When the front tire was in its' regular place, the wheelbase was exactly 98 inches. I'm going to stretch my wheelbase with 5 inches, which means that in scale I will stretch the body 0.20 inches. Here are a couple of pics of the original body. The firewall was molded to the body as one piece, so it had to go first. With my razor saw, I cut it away and then I glued the hood shut, as Pro Mods have one piece nose. Today I decided to cut the front end off to wait for stretching. I used Dymo-tape as a quide and used my razor saw again. This picture shows how much the wheelbase must be stretched. I will use a Supercharged Hemi on my build. And I have a question regarding that... What engine you suggest? I have a Top Fuel Hemi that could be modified into Pro Mod Hemi with a little work. I have a Blower and the injector hat already. Another choice would be Ross Gibson engine, but I've seen many opinions on their quality. Are they worth their price, as to me they seem a bit expensive even though I've never built one? I want to thank everyone who has posted their Pro Modified builds in here... I've been reading those threads really actively.
  8. Good Evening, I am brand new to this site and forum. I used to put together model cars as a teenager just to occupy my OCD, but hadn't done one in YEARS until a few weeks ago. I threw together an '07 Shelby GT500 in just a few days, not putting any effort in. That build brought back the itch, so I needed to do more. The other night I grabbed the '69 Camaro kit to work on. Unfortunately this is going to be another quick build, without the detail I really want. I'm not in a financial position to get all the extra tools and things that I want/need to really slow down and do a great build. Not working with any primer, sanding, etc for now, though I hope to be able to collect these things for future builds. I am still trying to enjoy taking the time and hopefully doing an acceptable job. Below are some pics; I started with the engine block, and added quite a few of the added parts. Any comments, tips, or critiscism is welcome. I'll be posting more as I progress with the project.
  9. I'm building a 1965 El Camino, from the AMT 1/25 kit. But there is a problem with the taillights, look like too smalls ! Maybe there are chrome bezels, but I don't find anythings in the kit... A picture will explain : Anyone has built that kit ?
  10. Ok so here is a project that I am very excited about! Building Junior Johnson's 1963 Holly Farms Impala. I took a 63' impala kit and am pretty much building the racecar from the ground up. I don't have too many pictures yet of the progress but here are a few... This was my first ever attempt to cut a door off anything. Some progress on the scratch built roll cage
  11. Hey guys. Figured I would show you what I'm Currently working on. It's a kit bash of a 1965 Chevy race car hauler. Have had the two kits for a while just sitting in the closet and one day I had the idea of combining the two together and some parts boxes to do it. Let me know what what you guys think and also open to ideas as well. kind of " wingin " it. Debating if I want to run one ton suspension and a dual rear tire axle on the back or not The two kits i'm using are Revell Monogram 1965 Chevy stepside kit # 85-7249 Amt/Ertl Model King Open Road Camper and Racers Wedge Model King #21453p Here's a few pictures of what I got done so far. Bare with the crappy camera, still trying to figure it out not to mention it was a cloudy day I went with a flat white for the ramp bed. the color is a gloss burgundy with a gloss white top cut the rear frame of the 65 pick up and re worked it but still have to add some frame rails so it will be a full frame plain jane interior. Flat white and some detail done
  12. Picked up an opened AMT '62 Bel Air 409 off of evilbay it's missing both intake manifolds and nothing else. It came with photo etch wipers and full detail kit so the two intakes missing is a nuisance that I'll live with I guess. Question - who makes a resin intake manifold for the 409? Dual four barrels would be nice but, Webers would be so fine!
  13. This is the Pro Shop version of the AMT '57 Chevy that was released in 1998. I know some of you will probably agree with me when I say it's such a good kit it's almost hard to believe it was made by AMT. It has over 160 parts and includes a photoetch set, ignition wire, a small sheet of BMF (which doesn't look like it would be enough to do the whole body, but it doesn't matter because I used the Bare Metal Foil brand Ultra Bright Chrome, which I found surprisingly different from the regular chrome), and a sprue of hoses, which also containes the bumper bullets, molded in soft vinyl, which I think is awesome! I think that's about it for extra goodies. I know a lot of people complain that it doesn't have any custom parts, but I really don't care since I think they looked too good out of the factory to customize. I actually started this about 3 weeks ago, but just now decided to put it up here.
  14. I built this to replicate a car my dad used to own and gave it to him for his birthday, the tail lights didn't arrive in the mail so i had to make a last minute purchase and collect the Ed Roth Outlaw. In case anyone's wondering the thing on the areal is a fox tail (My dad had one on his 1:1) I will let the pics do the talking.... All comments welcome.
  15. Here is my last model, for the salvage and shop diorama I'm building. A '85 Chevy S10. Not a shiny gloss paint, but a paint of many years... Some details: I'll add some evolutions on the paint and details. What do you think about it ?
  16. This is my '58 Impala, mostly by AMT, with a few bits from the Revell kit because I thought they were more cleanly molded. The color is Testors 1 coat lacquer Mythical Maroon over Tamiya white spray primer, no clear coat. Photoetch set from Model Car Garage, pre-wired distributor from Preston's Car Parts. Not the best distributor I've seen, but this was the first engine I've wired (but yes, they are in the correct firing order!) If any of you have a favorite brand of scale distributors, let me know, so I can get one for my next build. I started this car at the beginning of September 2012 and finished it at the end of March. It took so long mostly because a college dorm room isn't exactly the best place for model building. Still, I was able to clean up almost all the pieces and get them ready for paint so I could do all the painting over Christmas break. The pieces I took from the Revell kit are as follows: headlight assemblies, fender spears, tail light bezels and lenses, metal exhaust tips, tires (mainly because of the convenience of the white wall inserts), door handles, driver's side mirror, steering wheel, rocker covers, generator, and fuel pump. The air cleaner is from a '66 Mustang GT350. I also added a dip stick and a couple other little bits of plumbing. The springs were replaced with real springs from a retractable pen. They aren't perfect, but I think they look a lot better than the molded atrocities it came with! I cut out the trunk, too, but I guess that doesn't really matter since I didn't end up putting anything in it. The dash board gauge decals are also from the Revell kit. (Interesting side note: the chrome 'Chevrolet' script on the display case base is from the dashboard of a 1949 or '50 Chevrolet Deluxe I found in the woods. The rest of the car was pretty much a big pile of rust, but that little piece of chrome was in almost perfect condition!) Overall, I think it came out really well. Tell me what you think and please share any tips or constructive criticism that I can draw upon for future builds!
  17. Well, this is my first completed build for 2013. I took the AMT Kit 2006 Chevrolet Camaro Concept and turned it into a SEMA Show Car. I was originally going to build this car as a "What If" for when the 2010's came out, but I was a tad late in finishing it for that. So I turned directions. Engine is the kit stuff painted in 2011 GM Hugger Orange (fitting for the car) with nothing else done to it. The interior is done in red and white with the red inserts being MicroCloth Medical Tape colored Red. Carpeting is low pile dollhouse carpeting which I gotta find some more of. Exterior is DupliColor MetalSpeck Orange and Satin White over DupliColor MetalSpeck Silver Base over a Black Hot Rod Primer. Wheels are from Pegasus, called Hellas in 19" and 23". Enjoy and Thanx for following.
  18. Got this off ebay and will be making the best with what ive got.
  19. Giving this some fresh paint, the purple is pretty average and there were a few sink marks i didn't fix. So i will change colours and fix the imperfections in the body. while its in pieces i will show a pic of the interior, it has 67 impala seats because my 67 got the bench seats. basicly im just giving the body a respray so i wont be doing much to the chassis or interior.
  20. I started this a while ago and decided to post what I have got so far here. This is what I'm aiming for: here is where I'm at now: i have glued in the doors, removed all side trim, lengthened the roof and begun filling the door lines to make it a 4 door.
  21. Here it is - my 1996 1994 ( ) Impala SS. I like this fullsize, always remember to copcars, when i see one. I built it stock and made only some wiring. I know, that the Chromtrim on the sidepanel is not chromed original. But, why dont show, what kind of engine is working under the hood? Enjoy:
  22. Hi everybody, a short new topic. Last year, my brother and i built on different places of germany (distance about 275 miles) the same model. Same color. How could this happend? I dont know...perhaps...we are twins and some days the same thoughts? On christmas, we had the chance, to take pictures of bouth. Many pictures following... Take a look - the darkblue is mine. Can you find the difference? ...
  23. Hi everybody, today i want to show you my 57 BelAir. On this kit i made some more technics to weather all parts of it. Like interieur, exterieur and Decals. I built it in June this year, based on the first issue of the Revellkit. The History of Belair: The Chevy has come on in years and has a wild youth behind. The current owner has taken care of him. He is currently at the stage when he left the front damage repaired with used parts front and rear wheel arch on the left has been de-rusted and primed. The trapper damage, the rust on the rear and right are still so when he bought it in pitiful condition - for which he cares little by little. Inside, he has had more luck. The inventory lists a broken window on the right, worn seat cover, headliner loose and dirty panels / rear seat, the rear parcel shelf has been cracked by the sun - everything is possible. Well, the side windows are renewed. The owner can not waive his or her means. So he must always carry out the work so that he comes to the job every day. What happens to the engine? Additionally, he is still at odds ... Therefore: "Rolling Restoration": And now? Photos (a little more than usual) around the outside at irregular times. Have fun;) ...
  24. Ho everybody, here i show you a fast build. Also this kit has a story: it was the first Kit, my brother build loooong time ago and i became one simular kit for less in june this year. Only the wheels where missing and i took wheels from a 66 Chevelle Station "California Wheels". To make it complete, i took some brakedisc from a Ford Focus for a real look Take a look. Interieur and engine is all stock. simple and nice look, i think. Thanks for your attention,
