Scale I Build

  1. I've had this Solido model since the 1980s or so, and I've been converting it into a railroad inspection car. I cut a hole in the diecast chassis and fitted an AutoWorld slot car drive. Metal railroad wheels were installed, with electrical contacts connecting to the motor. So far it doesn't really want to crawl at a slow speed. It likes to scoot around at a fair clip. šŸ™‚ The interior detailing is basic, and the front seatback, rear floor and inner door panels were omitted. Those were filled in with styrene. I went ahead and represented bright trim and doorhandles even though in the end they may possibly not be visible through the window openings. I "rolled down" the rear windows to remove glare and improve visibility of the detailing. Four seated crew figures will be added in the future.
  2. Hi all, I have had the idea for this build for years and finally got around to building it. A couple of things I like about these cars, they have a ā€œgangsterā€ look about them, and they have a slightly chopped top look straight out of the factory. IMO they have stood the test of time. The idea was to give it a much more aggressive look, and convert it to a 2 door. The first photo was the main inspiration. Soā€¦. Convert the 4dr into a 2dr, and add suicide door handles. Remove the body molding, add a splitter and rear spoiler, mold the front and rear bumpers into the body. The front bumperettes were thinned and ā€œtucked inā€ flush, the grill is speaker grill screen. Open up the lower front grilles, the 300c logo was removed from the side trim, sanded thin, then installed higher on the body by the door handle. Side exit exhaust in the rocker panel. Wheels, tires and brakes are Pegasus, wheels have several coats of smoke. All the trim is semi gloss black. The paint is Tamiya TS100 semi gloss gunmetal, followed with a light coat of smoke, then flat clear. All lenses have multiple coats of smoke. This is just a simple curbside build with no interior, and only the bottom half of the engine. Unfortunately, I didnā€™t notice the warp in the hood til it was painted, I decided to live it. Thanks for having a look, all comments welcome. Inspirationā€¦. My visionā€¦. A big thank you to those of you that followed along on the WIP. Your input and comments were inspirational and very much appreciated. Cheers, Steve
  3. Hello all, This build (like many others) has been rattling around in my head for a while. Not quite ready to start it yet, as I need to finish my Impala wagon, but hereā€™s the planā€¦. Iā€™ve always thought the newer 300ā€™s have a gangster look to them. A few things I know for sure. Colour will be Tamiya TS100 semi gloss gun metal with flat clear, wheels will be either dark bronze/gold, or dark smoke. Am playing with several wheel options, but the 2 front runners as of now are in the photos. Build will be curbside and LOW, no engine (but imagine it has the Hellcat unit), no interior. Definitely a few minor body mods, hood and grill will be changed. I have a handful of hood scoops but hoping to blend in the Mustang hood in second photo. Itā€™s almost certainly going to be a 2 door. Some of my inspirationā€¦ Colour.. 2 door, I wonā€™t chop mine tho.. I like this grill and hoodā€¦ This one is killer aggressive, I probably wonā€™t go quite that nastyā€¦ Soā€¦. still planning this one but open to feedback and ideas guys. Hope to get it rolling in a couple of weeks. Cheers, Steve
  4. Hello I ran across this blog and I'm hoping for some help here. I just got the Moebius 300 kit and it looks terrific except for the hood/grill there is no decal with the "300" and the checkerboard... I'm hoping for some help with creating my own decal, but I've never done that before... Other than that, I have not done a whole lot of car models. I'm hoping to start a small collection in my spare time sort of thing. The cars from the 1950's are my favorite! 49-51 Mercs Mid 50s Cadillacs Anything really from the 1950's. Thanks and I hope to hear from you guys soon.
