Scale I Build

  1. Hi Guys, I haven't put a build on here for a while so I thought I'd post some pics of a project I completed today.
  2. Looks like the final box art for the forthcoming 1/25 Revell Foose Ford FD-100 Pickup kit has been released:
  3. As you can see by the award plaque, this was built a while ago... testers Candy red over metallic red with decals from an IMSA monza kit. dats-am03 by Mike, on Flickr dats-am01 by Mike, on Flickr dats-am02 by Mike, on Flickr
  4. Here is an old thread fix caused by the botophucket debacle, Conceived and built in the 80's, it's going to get some attention to resolve some issues (like no back glass) after the Phantom Ranchero GT is done. 5. This was my Memorial Weekend build. Nothing super detailed here as this is the recent release from MPC of the Dukes Charger. Absolutely the crummiest kit I've ever opened, nothing fit, horrible flashing, low detail, just junk as a kit goes and this kit almost made to the curb in a trash-can, but it challenged me to fix the problems and build it as a curbside show-piece instead of curbside-trash. Saturday morning did body mods, fixed all the hood fitment problems, replaced the horrible rear valance, notched exhaust ports, added some plastic and molded in a higher flip to the rear tail, added a front air-dam as the Charger in my opinion just needs something low and front to balance it. Tucked and shaved the bumpers and painted Platinum. Paint is Purple MetalCast over Bright Platinum with EFFEX pearl base and several polished clear coats sprayed Saturday afternoon. Sunday was polish and buff day then assembly on Monday. Pegasus wheels painted spokes Titanium, Clearly Scale Pro-Touring Recaro front seats, aluminum exhaust, disc-brakes and a PE gas-filler, gives this crummy Dukes MPC kit a nice curbside build now sitting on my desk. Under lights the EFFEX Pearl really shows I like the stance, used some stance-style strech front tires Thanks for looking....
  6. Here's an AMT 1960 Ford Starliner with a Revell Roth Beatnik Bandit bubble top and interior. To me it's sorta goofy and sorta interesting but I haven't made up my mind about it. It has some significant shortcomings in design and workmanship. Even though it's a "20 footer," we'll see if it attracts any attention at GSL XXVI. Feel free to make comments, positive, negative or otherwise. See the build thread at http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/121481-3-wheeled-ford-for-2017-gsl/ .
  7. Russell C retired from the yellow 3-wheeled running gag for the "Group" category at the GSL since he snagged the Ed Roth award for his last '56 Victoria. So, I thought that it would be interesting to make my own version of a yellow 3-wheeled Ford to enter at the 2017 GSL in April. It will be my first time going there. Here's a pic of the unfinished underside.
  8. I'm going to be doing this little build for my first Model Contest I'm entering Project C-FFWRC=The paint choice will be Testors Custom Blue Metal Flake. I will be using wheels from a 1:32 Jada Bigtime Muscle Wide Body Camaro<-----(Shown In Last Pic). I have until April 14th To complete the build which is plenty of time however I would have liked to be able to complete one of the other Model In Progress I have. I will Update every couple of days with progress of the build, thanks
  9. Quick and dirty slump-buster, until today it was well over a year since I finished anything. We have two shows coming up and I had this week off. I decided to see if I could knock out a quick curbside in about a week so I would have something to take with us. Got it finished up today and I can say it feels pretty good to finish something. Now to get one of those stalled projects completed.... Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  10. ok, to start this off... this past weekend at our Kustom Kemps meet one of the members brought in a few stahled projects and told a handful of guys to go pick one out. As he said the only one condition on this is we HAVE to build it and finish it!!!!!!!! So with that in mind I picked this one and as he put it he knew I'd grab this one!!!! Think he knows me or something?? anyway, the base is a 66 Chevelle wagon with the Monkee Mobile front clip and lower rockers and wheel wells and tail panel added to the wagon body. I'll be using a 66 Chevelle wagon chassis and interior in it. Engine is more than likely going to be a blown Big Block Chevy!! Color, I'm leaning towards a darker metallic blue of some sort...... Maybe!!?? On to the pics!!!!!! Front clip has been glued back onto the body!! Tail shot of body...
  11. This here is a model my Dad had been tinkering with every now and then for the past few years. His hands hurt a little to much to enjoy building and he's very busy with work and life type stuff so he offered to me last week to either part out or scrap all together. Naturally I'm doing neither, instead I'm going to tear it down and re-build/restore it for him as a late Father's Day present. Going in a Overhaulin' style with it, he knows it's happening but won't really get to see it until it's finished. I'll be taking a few idea's he's thrown around for his 1:1 Suburban and add few of my own in as well. The end result will be something along the lines of a Overhaulin'/ Fast & Furious/ resto-mod type'ish (lots of "ish" in there) custom truck. Some of the idea's are as follows. The one big thing he'd like to see is the bare metal finish that's becoming quite popular. Got a plan that proved to be very promising. But I'm open to hearing ideas too, backup plans are always good to have. It's going bumper less. Among some of the ideas he's tossed around for his 1:1 removing the bumpers has been something he mentions often so I'll be applying that to this build. Changing the tail light set up in the back. Not going with the usual Corvette treatment, instead I'll go with a tail light design he's very found of and that's the '67 GTO's quad light. Big horsepower, naturally. Swapping the Standard 283 small block with the 396 big block out of the '67 Pro-street Chevelle. Tossing a supercharger on it to for good measure. Custom grill and a few other ideas that I'm still working out. I was initially hoping to have it done before Father's Day but 7 days in and I'm still doing body work. There's a ton more to be done after that and as nice as it would be I'm not going to rush it, I want to do it right and to the very best of my ability. Picture time. Starting point: Believe it or not that color is that $1.29 bottle paint in Wal-Marts craft section, brushed on even. That stuff's not half bad. Rims will also be getting stripped due to the paint and scratches on them. After stripping. Removed the grill mounts to make room for the custom grill. Removed the gas cap and side trim for a smooth body. Will also be bodying in the door handles as the handles themselves are missing. Lower plate for the back with the GTO style lights. And after the first round of body work, starting on the second round. Thanks for looking, more to come.
  12. Starting on a Custom Monogram 94' Mustang GT in 1:25 Scale. I plan to paint it Testors Gloss Bright Blue. (Changed To Testors Blue Metal Flake) Wanted to get rid of the side badges that said GT Mustang before paint (already sanded). The mold is in yellow and I need to get primer so I will paint as soon as I get some. As for the wheels I will be using spare painted Tamiya R32 Skyline Rims and Tires (Black/Blue Lip, will touch them up a little). It's also going to be Wingless and the Headlights will be yellow tinted and Taillights black tinted. Kinda what I'm going for, could not make exact vision but good enough. Hope you all Enjoy!
  13. As if I didn't have enough projects, here's one more. I guess you gotta strike while the iron is hot! And since the Vic is in waiting... I picked this up at the NNL National for cheap. I wanted to build another semi-mild custom some what like my 59 Buick. It was a perfect build up to start with, that is until I started disassembly. Things went well until I removed the glass. In hindsight I would have ground the infected area down completely and then took the glass out. But that would have been to easy! But back on track now, I soaked the pieces in Purple Power for a few days and then finished the taking there of apart, after which I began messaging the body. Clean up and a few custom changes to come including a mild chop and some Lucas Headlights, de-chroming and bumper adjusting too! Here is where the fun begins... Follow along if you like, http://s176.photobucket.com/user/fredjames_2007/library/62 300?sort=2&page=1
  14. My first Tri-Five build. This is the old Revell kit with the crummy molded chassis. I did a lot of mods to this version of a Pro-Touring restomod. Left the body stock - Paint is Duplicolor Graphite top and tail and spear. Front is Duplicolor Gun Metal Gray with Tamiya Clear Red over that. 6-coats of Wet Clear all polished and buffed. Lot's of BMF where chrome needed to be. Hand made custom side mirrors from tear-drop aluminum stock. PE door handles. Completely custom made interior. I used the stock tub, molded in a 1991 C4 Vette dash, center console and door panels. Molded in rear buckets with molded console and C4 front buckets. Made my own suede color mix paint for the interior. Chassis, I built a custom pan and installed the IRS from a C4 rear and front suspension, along with C4 exhaust and custom aluminum tips from tear-drop aluminum stock. Wheels are stock C4 ZR1 wheel I inserted into Pegasus chrome sleeves, I think it gives it a "stock-custom appearance. Engine is C4 ZR1 with custom made dual-horn aluminum cold air intake. hand made radiator. I think I gave this old kit a fresh updated restomod appearance. Before After Build pic chassis Custom pan, exhaust, fuel tank and C4 IRS
  15. 1949 to 1951 Fords are commonly referred to as “Shoebox” Fords mainly because of the flat slap sided look of the vehicles. I refer to this custom as “Satin Slipper” for obvious reasons. This vehicle began life as an AMT 1950 Ford Convertible “Nostalgia Edition” kit before I made major revisions to it. I had a roof which I removed from a Tamiya Lexus SC430 race car hanging around and I thought it could look pretty good on the Ford body….. which it did, but with one major issue. The roof was too short to look appropriate on the standard length car, but it would fit fine if the body was shortened. So I cut 14 scale inches out of the side just behind the doors and before the rear wheel well. Now the roof fit fine, but the body seemed a bit too tall for my liking. So I sectioned a scale 4 inches out from the side of the car to bring the proportions more in line with what I thought was right for a custom like this. You can see the two pieces of the body I cut out, and on the scale ruler, you can see the sizing issues. Next, I flared the wheel wells with a mild ridge, front and back, so to give the side a bit of a sculpture, which is in contradiction to the style of the “Shoebox” Ford. The body was shaved of all moldings and ornamentations. I grinded back the tops of the headlights and built up the bottoms and added rounded sloping headlights from the new Mini Copper. On the trunk, the license plate area was recessed in to the vertical wall. The doors and trunk were opened and hinged and the hinges on the hood were relocated and rebuilt. Inside the trunk there is a parts box spare tire cover, battery and tools from the old AMT ’49 Mercury kit. For the taillights, I omitted the chrome bezel because they appeared too chunky….. It looks more streamlined without them…..I think. In the interior, the inside door panels were lifted from a 1962 Thunderbird. The area behind the seats, which came from my parts box, has a new panel built in with 6 speakers with the amps being built-in behind that (if it were a real car). The windows are made from acetate. The engine is an old parts box Chevy small block 283 with 6 deuces and trumpets. Wheels and tires also were resurrected from the parts box and the car was dropped down as low as possible. The windshield wipers are photo-etched items I had made from my design when I had the Timbs’ Special photo-etched items produced a few years ago in Scotland. Finally, the body was sprayed flat black to give the vehicle a satin sheen, hence the name, Satin Slipper. see the google album below satin slipper
  16. My choice came down to two - an AMT Kenworth K100 Aerodyne or an AMT Pete 359. I said to my wife "These are the two I have narrowed it down to" and she replied "Build the Peterbilt". So here is the start of my build thread for the Big Rig Build Off. I have really enjoyed looking at some of the ideas others have started for this community build, when I have some time I'll have to look through a few more and catch up on the ones I have already seen. When I used to build these AMT truck kits as a kid they were out of the box builds but I have come a long way since then so this one will be changed around a bit. How it will exactly turn out hasn't been decided yet but it will have a custom flavour to it with updated parts to improve the fidelity of the kit. The plan is to put a Moebius 53 foot reefer trailer behind it. Like most of my hot rod models, it will evolve as the build progresses. This is my first truck model for a long time so I am looking forward to going back to what I started with in the hobby and seeing what I can do with one of my earliest kits now. Here are a some of pictures of the unstarted kits:
  17. My idea of what a new Striped Tomato might look like if the Starsky and Hutch cop TV show was to come back today. Of course started with the Revell kit, which I will say is an excellent kit, very detailed, little flash, really none, and fitment was excellent throughout the build. I of course made several mods to this build, first was tucking and narrowing the huge front and rear stock bumpers. Added a air-dam effect to the front with plastic and putty. added the Eliminator hood scoop to keep Starsky from sliding across the hood, which of course drove Hutch crazy, you're welcome Hutch... Gave the boys new RECARO seats instead of the cozy bench seat, again you're both welcome... I think... Ha... Did minor engine detail, wires and hoses and basic chassis. Added some different exhaust tips to exit the corners. Stayed with the overall theme but I honestly never liked the look of the huge stripe, it never seemed to fit the lines of the car to me, so redesigned and painted my own. Decided to keep the chrome look, but shaved door handles. Paint is Duplicolor Electric Current Metallic Pearl Red with Tamiya Pearl White for the stripe and lot's of Testors Wet Look Clear cut and polished several times. Updated the wheels to a newer version "5-slot" style, and custom deep-dished the rears for a staggered resto-mod look, and gave them huge disc brakes. Had a lot of fun building this one, thanks for looking
  18. hey so just finished my Biggest Build yet i was pretty ambitious and just went for it . this build saw me trying airbrushing for the first time and also working with putty . i wanted to remove the Hump (trunk ) of the continental to make it look like my vision for it. and i also made the hood open side ways and lowered it . i had some problems along the way but it is only my 4th build ever . so all in all im very pleased with the result . i hope you guys like it . im very thankful for all the freindly folks that followed the build so many great and encouraging comments along the way . oh i keept the Trailer of the build tread but i used the Trunk area that i removed and build a little teardrop trailer around it . just for fun ... here it is so that is it . i really pused the limit of my skills on this . im still a noob afterall . anyway im pleased ...
  19. Hello modeling friends! This is is the Revell Mercury kit that's pretty amazing. From the building options to the excellent easy fitting parts. I built this kit as a gift for my brother who is an Auburn University graduate. Here is a list of the things I added or changed to the model. A lot of the ideas I got for the car came from all you guys wonderful builds. Hope there's no hard feelings!! -blended the front bumper -cut the B pilar out -smoothed the fire wall and molded in wires -wired the spark plug wires, battery, colant overflow, alternator, oil filter, and fuel lines. -upgraded to a 12v system with a new battery and alternator with custom bracket -added the clear steering wheel, metal springs up front, air cleaner and resin valve covers -paint and clear are duplicolor auto lacquer Thanks for looking and model on!!!
  20. Recently picked up model car building after 50 years! I love designing cars from two models. This one is a 1962 Thunderbird base with a 2010 Shelby Mustang drive train. The windshield is raked and the roll bar is from a portion of the Mustang roof. The front air dam and rear spoiler are handmade. Sorry I did not take pictures of the build. I am chronicling the current build I am working on.
  21. I've admired the Cobra Daytona for many years, but there has never been an affordable, decent kit to my knowledge. Since I always do customs, I decided to do a modern GT restyle of the 427 Cobra with a nod to the Daytona. In order to fit the necessary safety, performance and luxury equipment, it is about the same size as a modern Vette, which would be a natural sales competitor. The front and greenhouse use resin copies I made of other cars. Hopefully, photos of it in primer before too long. tech note: my files were way too big, so I used GIMP (photoshop-like freeware) to shrink them from over 4 MB each to about 300 KB each. GIMP's export function allows this; I went with 19%, but I think they're still acceptable.
  22. Up next in my quest to build the Delta Wing Force, this Jimmy Flintstone body over an original Craftsman chassis and tub. Let's see where this leads us shall we?
  23. Over the years I have done model cars builds so good some not so good. Some I have sold but mostly have kept. For a while I got out of the hobby because life just got to hectic and my cars reflected it. So I but away everything into storage and went on. A year ago we moved and while packing and unpacking I came across " my supplies " and thought maybe it was time to return to it but this time around I wanted to push myself to see just what I could actually do beyond just building the typical model out of the box. Which is a good thing, as I was going through the boxes and boxes of model stuff I noticed I didn't pack everything or packed it well. Some pieces were broken, missing or i had no clue where they came from. So here it is The Anomaly 32 Ford project. Here is where I left off at. As I said before, I really want to push my self on this build. Since part of it is already done I don't really want to redo what I have done. In my mind I have big dreams for this car but we will see if I can get it done the way I am envisioning it. First I want to put bigger wheels so I found an old pair that I casted in resin. Not sure if I want to go that wide so these for now will just be mock ups. To make this a one of a kind........and well because I don't have all the parts I have enlisted the help from this kit. My plan is to use the motors from this kit ( once again because I am missing the bodies ) to build a fuel injected tandem motor. But with doing so I will have to cut the frame and make it longer so the new motors will fit.
