Scale I Build

  1. Now, for a special treat, the new 71 Demon kit. This has been a grail kit for a long time. I've really wanted one in the collection for years, as I liked them a bit more than the Duster. However, the vintage kits are at outrageous prices. I was excited when they announced the new kit. This kit is great! I liken it to the old 71 Duster kit. The only flaw I found was a hood fit issue, so I had to glue it shut. It would stick up on the front right or in the left back. The rear spoiler I think is also too thick. I did also find a head scratcher with the chassis. You have to poke out the holes for the exhaust, a feature you need stock or custom, but there are holes already in the suspension for the custom drag bars. Kinda weird. You also have to cut out the holes for the scoops, which is weird since you're adding strips and wouldn't be able to see them once the decals are on. Not to mention having to cut holes in the decals for the scoops. I just cut off the prongs and glued them straight on. Over all, the kit is an excellent kit, and makes a great looking model car!   2. I originally got one of these kits about 15years ago and thought it was a really good kit. I also bought a second one to do a conversion to a 71 Challenger. That kit was different from the first in that it lacked the rally rims and racing gas cap. I ranked the first kit as one of the better Round 2 kits for years. My first one came out great, but this kit is another Round 2 head scratcher. It left me more than a little frustrated. First off, this is the new kit in the metal collector's box. The box art has a Plum Crazy Challenger with a wing spoiler. Awesome! I love Challengers with spoilers; it's always been a criticism that they weren't in a lot of kits. Now I can finally build one with a spoiler..............No, no, I won't. There is no wing spoiler in the box. Well at least it will have that nice vinyl SE top and the option to make it a convertible............Nope, neither are in the kit. The vinyl top you get instead is for the regular wide window version. However, the top is not complete; as in there isn't a complete frame and the car's body is supposed to complete the lower portion of the window frame. So you have to paint the body to match the vinyl top. Did I mention the fit is not so great for the top? Yeah, it's not as good a fit as the old kit. I would have done the convertible if it had come with the option. The hood fit is also bad, so I had to glue it shut. The dash fit was also pretty bad and I had a hard time getting it in. The only good thing I could say about the kit was that they have all new decals for SOME of the emblems. Kind of a head scratcher as to why they didn't do the Challenger emblems for the fenders.   3. Pretty much the same kit as the Sheriff Roscoe's Police Car (MPC 707) reissued a few year ago, this time with new box art and a resin Joker figure. "Stock Dodge Monaco" might be a bit of a stretch with the super-deep steel wheels and matching tires, though...
  4. The Charger Squad. The Hemi Orange 69 I built a few years ago, it fell off the shelf and still needs some parts put back on.
  5. Started with a MPC promo from eBay, I added the vinyl top, side trim, transparent signal lights with acrylic sheet and some chrome details. Also casted the side mirrors from a 1/24 Greenlight Monaco cop car diecast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  6. Got the new AMT kit. It's not too bad. I just wish they'd get rid of the hippie sunflower decals and add decals for the dash, turn signals, DODGE EMBLEM. You, know, useful decals. At least they have headlight lenses and mirrors in this kit. It's pretty easy to build. No real issues. Went through three paint choices before settling on the red. Doesn't look bad.   7. Started working on this one last week. I got as far as trying to put the front wheels on when I thought to myself, "these plastic pins are a pain. Plus, that engine doesn't look at all good." I went to my model supply cabinet and broke out an AMT 68/69 RR/GTX kit for the frame. I raided a Revell 68 Charger for the engine and am using a B-N-L resin torque flight tranny for the build. How does that AMT frame fit you ask? Very well thank you. I just had to do some minor sanding on the radiator support and firewall to get them to fit properly. I selected the Keystone mags from the Revell 68 Charger kit and the redline tires from the new 68 GTO kit. I am also using the rear axle from the Charger kit since it looks better than what AMT gives us in the 68/69 kits. I still have to play with the location of the rear axle so the wheelbase is right, but here is how it looks right now. Basic engine is done, just needs all the accessories glued on it. Here is how it looks inside the engine compartment. Chrome valve covers are from the Revell 68 Dodge Dart kit. Thanks for looking.
  8. The newer Revell version. Been wanting another 68 for awhile. The kit is pretty nice and I love how it had the dog dish rims in the kit. I believe I saw someone on here the other day that did one and had a problem with the front end. I did as well. The A-frame for the front wheels doesn't line up right. It pushes the piece for the turn lights up; which in turn messes the grill up. I eventually had to super glue it down. Didn't realize my grill wasn't quite in place at the time.   9. Started with a a resin dody from southern motorsports hobby. Scratched built rollcage and used parts form other drag car kits
  10. Here is my latest build, MPC’s 1980 Dodge Omni 024, from the “Silver Bullet” box art release. I built it box stock, with the lower front grille scribed open. This is a neat little kit that goes together very nicely. My only issue was the final fitment of the hood. I think if you cut down the radiator support and radiator the hood will sit better, but I didn’t want to risk breaking anything so I left it alone. Body is painted Tamiya Mica Red over pink primer, and the interior is Tamiya Dull Red. Dull red looks more brown in person than the dark red it shows in pictures but I’m happy with the look.   11. Other than the body mods and custom wheels from the AMT ’66 Mustang this is a box stock build. This was my first attempt at a dice & slice since I was a tweenager and the first one ever completed!Thanks for looking! Comments welcomed.
  12. This will be my kit and goal to complete in February. The AMT/ERTL Dodge D-50. I’ll be building the box art version of the kit, since it’s the reason I got it in the first place. Surprised by the parts count in this kit and I’m excited to build it. Should have some progress tomorrow! I haven’t decided on wheels/tires. The kit wheels are not what I think should go on a mini truck. The tires are also a bit large in my opinion. I might put on the Aoshima BBS wheels from my stash.
  13. Built from Fast and Furious Dom's Charger kit. Kit's parts like the motor+ blower and wheels/tires were raided for other projects, but as I had most of the essential parts present I was customizing anyway. Mods as followed: Hood scoop from Revell '68 Charger drag option placed on '70 hood. 7.0 litre Dodge Viper motor from scrap Revell Viper ACR build, with a custom made vortech style super charger setup using a resin turbo, exhaust and sprue pieces. Styrene scrap trees bent as intake tubes and oil filters turned into air filters as the original pieces were missing. Electronic fan/radiator comes from an unknown source. Custom built side exhaust. Seats from Dodge Viper ACR. Wheels are Radio Shack X-mods, with front tires sourced from an AMT Fast and Furious Supra and rear tires from Revell C5 Corvette. Disc brakes were also sourced from the Viper ACR. Various decals were used from the 68 charger, and the red tail stripe is from the stock '70 Charger. Exterior is Walmart Color Place Gloss Black, cleared with Pledge.
  14. Just traded in my 2009 for a 2015 Challenger. I found out that they no longer have parts for the 2009-2014 Challengers and when your rear fuse box goes out; it kinda sucks having to rummage through junk yards for a replacement. The new car though is awesome. It is an amazing car and comparing it to my 2009 is like comparing a P-51 to an F-16. It's night and day. The car is beautiful, fun to dive, and I love all the new features.
  15. This is my second 69 Dodge Super Bee build. The first one was built (in silver) to be a slot car body. This one is the mixture of a glue bomb and the left overs from the slot car. . The wheels are custom one-offs built by marrying the 10 spokes from a 77 Monte Carlo snap kit with a set of forked, spoked wheels from an undetermined BMW kit. I wish I had more so I could try different colors. The decals were quite a challenge as the were VERY old and may have gotten damp sometime in the past. I did the usual BMF and lighting details in red and amber. I researched the real car details so I could duplicate them on the grille and tail panels. Overall the finished product came out pretty well.
  16. I built all of these Challengers, previously posted, in one batch. It allowed me to mix and match parts for the options desired on each. They were all painted in the same week. Having so many at once allowed me to build efficiently and gave freshly glued or painted parts time to dry before being handled again. Their completion resulted in a rainbow of E-bodies.
  17. Haven’t built a truck in 30 years. Bought this lit for $17 on a whim last year. And wanted to challenge myself with a first time weathering attempt. Goal was to do a Nevada -Texas truck that had some miles that were all in the dry climates. Here is the cab finished tonight. The tanker will be picked up in Texas when we can find a driver, probably Monday.
  18. Here's the Revell 1968 Dodge Dart GTS. What a fantastic kit! Everything fit great, and I had pretty much no issues at all with the build, although I did have to shorten the rear axles to fit the wider tires inside the stock fenderwells. The color is Tamiya TS-53 Deep Metallic Blue over gray primer, and was cleared with Tamiya TS-13. The red stripes are decals from the Revell '68 Charger 2'n1 kit. The seats, door panels and dash are Apple Barrel Gloss Black craft paint. The engine is a mixture of Folkart Dutch Aqua with a touch of Apple Barrel Laguna craft paints. The wheels are from Morgan Automotive Detail and were airbrushed with Molotow Chrome. The rear tires are from Fireball Modelworks, and the fronts are from the parts box, although I'm pretty sure they came from the Revell '68 Chevelle kit. I did the trim in Bare Metal Foil and added door locks, valve stems, and ignition wires for added detail. Again, what a great kit, I really enjoyed this build. I included both indoor and outdoor pics to show how the metallic paint pops in the sun. Thanks for looking!
  19. I wanted a late 60s to early 70s period look, so I swapped out the kit tires and wheels for TorqThrust mags on the front with slot mags and Micky Thompson slicks on the rear. I do wish that I'd set the seat and roll bar back a little, but I guess that with each kit we build, we have to find one thing that bothers us and keeps us humble. This one was a two-fer though. Between tweezers that refuse to keep hold of the door handles and uncooperative fat fingers, I managed to set the door handles too high. The front valance on the kit had a factory defect on it that looked like somebody had laid a hot bar or something across it, so that was not used. The paint color was selected scientifically. I didn't want the orange, red, or even the black that is currently very popular, so I selected several colors of paint that I found interesting, laid them out on a table, closed my eyes and moved them around, and with my eyes still closed, picked up a can, and that's the color I used; Testors 1642 Gloss Custom Gold Metal Flake. I did make a couple of minor alterations to the engine and chassis from the kit offering. I'm one of the few modelers that really don't get much into engines, with most of my kits just receiving basic engines from the box, and the hoods glued shut. Once-in-awhile, I let loose and get serious in detailing. This Dodge got full engine and chassis detail. Here, Flo, one of the mechanics at Otto Ray Sing Classic Car Center inspects my work.
  20. Not a stock color, but the yellow paint didn't want to stick to the hood. Had trouble finding a stripe for the rear as well. Wanted a black stripe, but had to settle for the white. Went with the day two look. Hood. scoops, and tail lights are from Hart's Parts. The pics came out alright, but it's been storming here lately, so there wasn't much sun.

  22. I built the Dodge A100 monster truck many years ago (approx. 1990). It has a number of scratchbuilt features including forward-tilting body, working simulated hydraulic cylinders for body and steering, working 4-wheel steering, full wiring & plumbing, etc. At the same time I started a rebuild of an old IMC Dodge L700 to match the MT. The frame was stretched and a tag axle added. An IMC Big Rig semi trailer donated it's floor for a custom drop-deck trailer. The project stalled and went into a box. I recently got it out and was determined to get it finished! This is the result. The ramps store under the trailer deck. Trailer wheels, tires and suspension came from AMT 1/32 reefer trailer
  23. Is there really no kit of the Dodge Challenger or Charger SRT Hellcat? I see there are die-cast models. Reason I asked, getting a Lamborghini Chetah kit, which is motorized, thought keeping with the Chrysler V8 theme would be cool.
  24. Here is my ‘82 custom Dodge Van! It’s the re-released “Bad Company” kit from MPC, with my own mix on the decals. The black flaming horse decals came from the MPC Pinto Pony Express re-issue, and the sunset flaming horse came from the recent release AMT ‘66 Mustang coupe kit. I thought the wizard decals in the kit looked goofy so I swapped in those horse flame decals. I think they look like they belong together! I painted the body in Tamiya X-12 Gold Leaf, and the interior in XF-7 flat red, with Future on the seats, dash and walls. This was my first time using Future floor polish and I am definitely a convert! The body paint really pops with three thin coats of future. FYI, it’s now called “Pledge Revive It Floor Gloss Original” - it took me a while to find the current name and I had to order it from Amazon. The interior is mostly box stock, but I added a simple mini fridge and 32” flat screen tv that I modeled up in CAD and had my brother 3D print for me. The TV wall mount is just a cut piece of scrap sprue. Overall this kit went together pretty well, but it took some finessing to get the interior tub and chassis to seat properly in the body. The large glass roof panel is definitely supposed to be glued in from the inside, but it then won’t fit with the cab partition panel in place. I left it removable and just set it in from the outside. I wanted to use the chrome side exit exhaust pipes, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to actually attach them to the body or frame without doing custom fab. I didn’t realize this until final assembly so I won’t bother adding an exhaust. This kit’s eye candy is up top anyway, no one is ever going to look underneath! I probably should have left the engine out too since you can’t really see it. This is definitely the wildest looking kit I’ve ever done, and I had a blast doing it. I grew up well after the custom van scene died out, but it definitely needs to make a comeback!
