  1. 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO 3909GT In 1962 Ferrari introduced the 250 GTO which became one of the most iconic Ferraris ever. The Swiss racing team Scuderia Filipinetti bought GTO 3909GT and quickly put it on the track including the Nurburgring in Germany where it wore #54 1n 1963. The model: This model is an older Italian made 1/24 BBurago before the move to China. The main change was to replace the BBurago wheels and tires with a PE set of wheels from a long forgotten source painted aluminum to reduce the bright chrome finish, not appropriate for a racing Ferrari. The number decals were printed using MS Word on a white decal sheet and the Scuderia Filipinetti lettering and logo sourced from Lemans Decals in Spain via eBay. Sliding door windows were also added and the PE headlamp surrounds are from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. The one thing I did not do was to place covers over the 3 vents in the nose because of the fear of not matching the body paint. (where did Tamiya Italian Red TS08 go?)
  2. Was thinking of getting a book about the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO. Several have been published, was checking out what is available. I'm surprised about the price of some, but this one is insane! And you need to know French. Anyone have one of the other books, to give a quick review or opinion about?
  3. For more out of curiosity than anything else I bought this 1/24 BBurago Ferrari GTO for under $30 shipped....and it is not red. I wanted to see how it compared to the other GTOs which have been released in the past. This particular car is based upon GTO 3445GT as it raced in the 1964 Targa Florio. The model is OK but could have been better. The major issue I have with it is the windshield surround depicts an oversized black gasket on the outside of the chrome surround. The 2 hood scoops are undersized and the taillight bezels are not chromed. On the plus side the wire wheels are pretty good but definitely need to be painted, not chromed. Unfortunately there is no engine. I found it interesting the Chinese based BBurago chose to start from scratch and did not use the earlier Italian based GTO diecast which is IMHO must better and with an engine. For comparison purposes shown left to right are the Jouef GTO64, K&B slot body, Gunze, Italian BBurago, Revell slot body, and the new BBurago. As a footnote, the Gunze model is really special to me because it was expertly built by my good friend Wayne Moyer for a magazine review article. He had coated it with Future which unfortunately over time had crazed and he gifted it to me. I was able to fix the finish and it remains a special tribute model to Wayne.
