Scale I Build

  1. I originally got one of these kits about 15years ago and thought it was a really good kit. I also bought a second one to do a conversion to a 71 Challenger. That kit was different from the first in that it lacked the rally rims and racing gas cap. I ranked the first kit as one of the better Round 2 kits for years. My first one came out great, but this kit is another Round 2 head scratcher. It left me more than a little frustrated. First off, this is the new kit in the metal collector's box. The box art has a Plum Crazy Challenger with a wing spoiler. Awesome! I love Challengers with spoilers; it's always been a criticism that they weren't in a lot of kits. Now I can finally build one with a spoiler..............No, no, I won't. There is no wing spoiler in the box. Well at least it will have that nice vinyl SE top and the option to make it a convertible............Nope, neither are in the kit. The vinyl top you get instead is for the regular wide window version. However, the top is not complete; as in there isn't a complete frame and the car's body is supposed to complete the lower portion of the window frame. So you have to paint the body to match the vinyl top. Did I mention the fit is not so great for the top? Yeah, it's not as good a fit as the old kit. I would have done the convertible if it had come with the option. The hood fit is also bad, so I had to glue it shut. The dash fit was also pretty bad and I had a hard time getting it in. The only good thing I could say about the kit was that they have all new decals for SOME of the emblems. Kind of a head scratcher as to why they didn't do the Challenger emblems for the fenders. Over all, the kit came out alright, but nowhere near as good as my first. SAM_1558 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1559 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1560 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  2. Started with a MPC promo from eBay, I added the vinyl top, side trim, transparent signal lights with acrylic sheet and some chrome details. Also casted the side mirrors from a 1/24 Greenlight Monaco cop car diecast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. Got the new Revell kit. Not bad, came out pretty nice. SAM_1374 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1375 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1376 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1377 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  4. The newer Revell version. Been wanting another 68 for awhile. The kit is pretty nice and I love how it had the dog dish rims in the kit. I believe I saw someone on here the other day that did one and had a problem with the front end. I did as well. The A-frame for the front wheels doesn't line up right. It pushes the piece for the turn lights up; which in turn messes the grill up. I eventually had to super glue it down. Didn't realize my grill wasn't quite in place at the time. Still it came out looking alright despite the set backs. SAM_1362 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1363 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1364 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_1365 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  5. Greetings all,,enjoy the works on here. This is a "what if" car,, entire build using leftovers from all my spare parts bxs,,so I have no idea what brand kit it is,,got it at a swap meet 1/2 built blob+ parts in a ziplock bag for 5$. I didnt have a correct front grill set,,so I put a charger front grill on,,looks ok. And the back tail lens area is a front grill from some custom kit of something. So its a kit bash for sure,,but it has its own look,,and thats all it needs. Build on!
  6. Well happy spring to all,,,finished up Revells 68" Hemi Dart,,cool kit,,Revell does a good job on the mtr in this,,but of course,,I have to put my touch on it. I wanted something sticking out of the hood,,duel carbs,,hi-rise,,blower,,somethin in there,,added x-tra roll bar in front, added some basic wiring, plumbing. other than that just the basic kit. Can sprayed testors qukdry enamel, hand painted rest. I did have probs with the rear window fit,,if I lined it up even at the top+bottom,,there was a huge gap on the sides relative to the c-pillars,,bizarre,,so I put it in, with the bottom "Vented" similar to a shelby GT racer rear window vent type. All in all,,it turned out fair. But good enough for my shelf! Keep up the great works here on MCM. S `
  7. Revells Fast + Furious Charger,,from HL fun kit to do,,the kit had drag racer written all over it,,so I grabbed some leftovers from the decals bx,,add some basic wiring. and away I went,,,,, Sprayed from the can testors maroon qkdry. hand painted the rest. Only thing I wish the kit had came with would be some wheelie bars for the back. Revells hemi mtr for this is awsome,,alot of options you can do w/it. And I made a rear spoiler,,as all cars should have a wing or spoiler, lol. {kidding of course} Happy new year to all !
  8. I saw someone post pictures of a 1969 Charger with then engine painted this color. Regrettably, I didn’t write down his name. But it was the best representation of MOPAR engine blue I had seen yet. It’s Tamiya TS-41 Now I have to build a couple more Chargers!?
  9. Hi everyone I've been building and scrapping this build for going on 3 years. This is my first model build I've ever done. I would love to get ideas, help, or any other feedback to help me move this baby along. I have a bunch of ideas I want to incorporate into it from some of my favorite builds. So far I'm going to be making a efi itb dodge NASCAR engine. I made the wide 5 wheels from some wheels off of eBay. I think I definitely need some kind of flares to widen the stance (I think it looks too narrow under the stock fenders). I'll post some quick mock up pics below. Thanks for looking and look forward to see what you all think.
  10. This is the new Revell AAR kit. I bought it with a gift card I got as a bonus from work. I had gotten the old kit when it first cam out, but I bought the wrong paint and did not like the results. This kit is not a bad kit, but it just doesn't look right to me. I like the original kit better. SAM_0047 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0048 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0049 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0050 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  11. One of the first car models I ever built was the 1967 GTX. Uncharacteristically of me, I built it as the custom street version. Ever since I have wanted to get another one to build stock. I finally got my chance, as this model was on sale at Hobby Lobby. It's a little different than the one I previously got. I was sad that there were only black stripes, so I had no white stripes to go on my black car. It was also strange it had some of the custom parts, but not the decals or all the modification parts. I made the mistake of using the custom headers as I did not know that the stock were also in the kit, and thought the custom parts were the stock parts. The kit also put together a bit differently than I remember of the old kit. The hood fit isn't that great, but I guess it cam out looking alright. It's a pretty good kit. 12. I've had this kit sitting in my collection for over a decade now, and thought it's about time I did something with it. I'm starting with the Mr Norm's Revell kit and a photo etch set from MCG. I'm not sure if this will be an exact factory stock build or a very mild custom at this stage. A quick bit of googling and I have some inspiration... I rather like the gold, but we'll see if I can find a good colour match. I've always used automotive spray cans for bodywork, but this time, I'd like to try Zero, Scale Finishes or Tamiya paints. I've never used any of these for a body, so any advice/recommendations would be welcome. First step for me has been to remove the kit hinges and make my own. I do like a precise working hinge on opening panels. I've also reduced the size of the slot in the body where the hinge fits through. According to my reference pic the slot in the kit is too wide. Its still not perfect. I guess the best way to do the hinges in the correct width would have been to make them from brass. This will have to do. Its just a start. I'll post more progress as I go (but I am the world's slowest builder!).
  13. Hi all,,hope alls well for ya during this madness we see around us everyday,,I guess we all get more time to build during this,,the plus side I guess. So,,dug this out a few weeks ago,,Revells Street burner series 70' Superbird. Painted with Testors quikdry rattle can,,,some minor wiring/plumblng,,added a hood scoop{it looked kindof neat when I mocked it up} Hand painted all else. Funny though,,there was no Rdrunner cartoon decal for the side rear wing spars/supports,,maybe a licensing thingee. Anyways,,stay safe,,and enjoy whatever building you do get a chance to do.
  14. Another thread, two nights in a row. Kind of hard to ignore. My build of a '71 Cuda 426. The paint is model master Sublime green. I started and painted this car in January 2018. My first model build with bare metal foil!!! No looking back now. The pictures do not do it justice. The shaker hood scoop needs to be trimmed down. I just painted it and notice it won't let the hood sit flat. What do you think??
  15. I am getting ready to start a 1958 Plymouth kit (The Christine one) and realized this interior is a little more accurate for Plymouth Belvederes of that year. Any idea how one could replicate the interior in the first picture? How would one make the white seat background? How could one recreate the black textured part of the seat? Both are slightly different. Thanks
  16. Hi folks, I did another restoration... This is the 1/24 scale Monogram kit. Bought it some time ago from a modelling mate and it looked like this: The hardest part was getting rid of the white stripe decals that had practically "eaten" into the plastic, even after stripping the paint. I may show some WIP photos of that later on. The paint I used is Testors Plum Crazy to replicate the In Violet Plymouth purple. The first time in decades that I used enamel on a car body and I was quite annoyed by the 72 hours plus dry time so for the next step I used a food dehydrator which helped to save a lot of time and patience. I also did my very first tyre lettering on this kit. By the way, no clear coat on this one, just elbow grease...
  17. Talk about polishing a turd. My dad got me this for Christmas and, if anyone knows me, I like stock vehicles. The Lindberg kit here is not stock. I ordered a Hart's Parts resin hood and got the stripes from eBay. I came out descent, but this kit is a nightmare of issues. The chassis is smaller than the body! I had to apply the glue and hold the body on the chassis for an hour to get it to stay on! The tail lights look horrible, the hood was glued shut because the engine wasn't stock, and I hate that there were no side mirrors. My stripes were also the wrong scale and I had to trim them. The sides are also wrong which caused an issue with the stripes as well. SAM_0447 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0448 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0449 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  18. The very first car model I ever tried to build was a Challenger T/A I got from Hungate's in Independence Mall Wilmington, NC. I always wanted to get another one and do it in Sublime green. I got a few gift cards and decided to use one of them to get this kit. It came out great. The kit is a pleasure to build. 19. Been wanting one for the collection. Found resin parts from Hart's parts and found some stripes on ebay. Came out alright. The grill is a little warped and the rear end isn't exactly correct, but it does look pretty good for what it is. 21. Gonna start posting some of my pics that got lost. Here is a 1969 Charger that I did a few years ago. Guards Red and Black 1 (7) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (8) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (9) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (10) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (12) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  22. Hey ya'll. First time caller, long time listener ha ha. I've been viewing this website now for like, 4 years. Figured it's about time I created an account and posted something. I've learned so much from different members of this group, and I want to say thanks. So here is my current project, 1970 Challenger T/A, pro-touring style, with a 392 Hellcat engine.
  23. AMT's 1/25 scale '71 Plymouth Duster 340, coming in late 2018:
  24. I've noticed some Lindberg Dodge L-700 kits being parted out on eBay; the engine has been referred to as a "361 V8". Is this the same engine as the 361 that was in the early Sixties Mopar passenger cars, and if so, is the IMC unit an accurate representation? I'd like to see if I can use it for the Revell '62 Chrysler Newport. Thanks for your help!
  25. One of more recent build. I found this kit on eBay for a great price (both rear door panels are missing) but I couldn’t refuse. Its pained model master emeral green metallic spray can with a testors high gloss enamel clear coat spray can. The interior is just flat black and wheels bare metal aluminum spray from Tamiya. Opinions??
