Scale I Build

  1. Hi folks, I'd like to start a WIP on this project. It's about this Fujimi kit: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/966180-fujimi-12450-porsche-911-carrera-3-8-rs Basically, I have started this kit already in May 2017. But gradually finding out about it's numerous shortcomings (more about that later), I put it aside for the time being. Some days ago, after finishing the Porsche 928 S, I opened the kit's box again and it clicked! So I decided to proceed with it. The first step I did last year already, is that I filled the panels of the sunroof. No Porsche RS ever came with a sunroof! I used styrene melted in glue for filling back then. I used this instead of regular filler because I heard that glue can help to prevent the appearance of ghostlines. Someday soon, we'll see if that's true... It does not look too nice but the surface is even and smooth as glass. There are quite a lot of aftermarket parts that I will use on this one. Nearly all of them are coming from Scale Production (SP), a German specialist exactly for these kind of things. Here are the parts: The 964 RS model comes with a different kind of rear bumper but the Fujimi kit has the regular Carrera one. So I cut that out and replaced it with a resin bumper part from SP: It took some sanding and filling with Plasti-Zap CA, but it worked out okay. The big rear wing has been fixed at this stage too: As can be seen, the wing needed filling as it's one part with the engine cover. On the lower side just aswell as the upper side: A little mock-up with the wing "board" fixed. I love that view! The Fujimi kit comes with molded-on door handles like this: Proxxon time! I also drilled 2 holes for the separate SP door handles to be fixed in later on: Like that: That's all for now. I hope you like my progress.
  2. Hi folks, this is a build I finished just this week. A rather easy side project to relax while taking a break from my lengthful work on the Rothman's Porsche 956. It's basically a simple curbside kit by Fujimi that was unnecessarily complicated by fitting issues on the front and rear body parts. It took quite some glueing, filling and sanding to make the body properly hold those parts. As a consequence, the original panel lines on those parts - the black ones which are characteristic of the 928 - got lost. I used thin stripes of black 3M laser plotter foil to re-created those lines. The rims originally included in the kit - those in the "telephone dial design" - have not been used because they looked somewhat chunky. And those rims have mainly been used on the series 1 Porsche 928, most of the 928 S had the so-called "Gullydeckel"-rims. So I used those wheels from the Fujimi 928 S4 kit instead. Btw, "Gullydeckel" is the German word for manhole cover and if you take a look at the following image of a German manhole cover, you will probably get the point. Now to some model images, hope you like them. A meet among brothers...
  3. This build was mostly finished in 2016, there is a build thread on this forum. I just had to finish the license plates - which I did this year... It is a dog of a kit, quality is low, general fit is poor and the way it is supposed to be assembled makes it difficult to get right. It was sprayed with some old nail polish, one of may favourite colours on one of my favourite cars, shame it looks a bit strange... hopefully my '85 Fujimi 911 will turn out better! Comments welcome!
  4. This is the Tamiya 911 GT2 road version kit. I was going for a "Barely street legal look", and I added carpet, and various other parts to make a "closer to stock" looking interior. I got rid of most of the racing bits on the body, relocated thecustom petrol cap, and since I couldn't stand that type of wheel, a modified them by removing some of the "Spindles". Thanks for looking-in!!
  5. This is my Fujimi Enthusiast Porsche 911 Turbo. Its totally detailed, and since NONE of these Enthusiast Porsches has hinges for their hoods, I had to SB my own.
  6. Hello, here is my latest finished build, and at same time my first finished Porsche model ever!" Its nice Fujimi kit and goes together well. I got bit weathering accidently cause i did mess up with panel lines. I think it still looks cool.. I hope you like it.. I used Aoshima BBS wheels and printed finnish licence plates, and also german flag. Rest is out ot box.. I went with bit retrolook with doing chrome foiling on window mouldings etc... They should be black..
  7. Here is my Porsche project.. Color is Ivory from Maston colors, its rattlecan spray paintjob.. Chassis is done, interior is almost there and body is awaiting for detailing, decals and first of all polishing. Wheels are from Aoshima.. 17 inch, BBS Type RG
  8. Seeing if I can stay sane building two models at the same time. The Paris Dakar 959 is a really nice resin transkit, and I could not let the donor kit just sit in the box, so I am also building something different. The fun thing about a project like this, I need to be accurate with the race car, but can design as I go with the Speedster. A disappointment is how Tamiya left out the intercoolers and piping, and the transkit ignores that feature too! The Paris Dakar 959 pushed the envelope in it's day, and I have seen 1:18 die cast models. But it really needs to be done like it was rode hard and hung up wet, perhaps scraping it along the ground will add appropriate texture. I have found some fitment issues, otherwise so far so good. The Speedster, I know it would be sacrilegious to hack up a real 911 Speedster and 959, but that's what's fun about models! I built a 930 slant nose Turbo Speedster with some of the parts, other parts are in another project (stalled for some time). I'm thinking of hinging the door on the bottom, so it could be used as a camera car. It's also just a Curbside. Good & Evil Twins.
  9. So this is Tamiya GT3 kit that I build mainly in box stock style. Modifications include aluminium spun hubcaps that were make by a friend of mine and restyled rear wing. Idea was to create a slat flats racer- styled street legal sports car with local ( Finnish ) EU- plates. Color is Tamiya Blue Violet and decals are from different kits.
  10. So I’m new here, but this is what I currently working on. It’s almost finished but what is everyone’s honest opinions?? Its painted Tamiya light gunmetal spray paint with a testors high gloss enamel clear spray can. I used splash paints polishing compounds on the clear. The interior is painted Tamiya red brown and aluminum. Wheels are gloss black and chrome pen.
  11. My intention is not to spam all you guys with tons and tons of builds, its just i got alot of time at the moment, and therefore spend alot of time building (beats sitting behind the TV or anything like that in my opinion, and its more productive too ). However i do like to document my builds, for myself, but also for other people to enjoy and pickup some idea's for their own builds (hopefully). This Porsche GT3 im building for my dad as a Xmas gift, my mom is getting the Jag MK2, and my dad a Porsche as hes a Porsche guy . Like the title says its a 996 generation of the 911, this was the very first 911 series they build with a watercooled engine, and is still considered as the "purest" GT3 that porsche has build to date without any electronic "angels" as i call them. Making it a real "man's car". The car is curbside kit, which is a shame for a Tamiya kit, all other ones i have so far were with a full detail (the SARD Supra being an exception to this but had a cool interior to do). So no engine to build for this except what you can see from under the car just like in real life. Here goes: For the real GT3's the whole undercarriage is painted in the body color says the instructions, i thought this aswell, but luckily an old class mate of mine actually has one of these (and every other gen of GT3 (rs)'s the lucky sod!) and asked him to take some pic's of the undercarriage to see if this is correct (it is) and some other details for my build. Engine area done: Front drivetrain in, made a little mistake with putting it in, as i glued the topmounts into the chassis, thus preventing the wheels to turn in either direction (still need to fix that): Protective guards on: side view of the undercarriage with the brakes in (yes the callipers seem different colors, only difference is on the back (right in the pic) its done straight onto the black plastic, on the front (left in pic) ive layed down a white layer first: 1st wetcoat on (pic taken directly after the coat went on): 2nd (and final) wetcoat on (pic taken after 30 min of dry time approx.) Velvet carpet laid down in the back (need to make the "center" piece fit a little better, any idea's?) , with the metal GT3 badge, sadly not really able to see it on there but ow well: Gave the seats some color, as i hate full black interiors, sadly due to the 1st layer being yellow, and the tape being yellow, i missed a small part on both seats: Made some "custom" carpets for the front from the velvet sheet leftovers, turned out pretty good if you ask me: Thats it for now, more to follow soon!
  12. Does anyone have instructions for a Testors (Fujimi) Porsche 911? I picked up a buildable kit on eBay, but the instructions are missing. Thanks! Steamboat
  13. Well this kit has been an incredibly long WIP. I bought this kit back in the mid-90s when I was still working for Porsche. It was to be one of the kits that got me back into building. So I started it, then promptly stopped working on it. For whatever reason. And now I'm going to finish it. Back when it was new, I decided purple was the colour of choice. And I decided to spray that right onto the body, no prep, no primer, big mistake. So now I've done the purple bath, properly prepped the body, primed it using Tamiya white primer, then sprayed Tamiya Gun Metal. Needs some polishing, but I like how the colour turned out. Interior is now a semi-gloss black, with Model Master Dark Crimson. I think it's a pretty close approximation to Porsche's Oxblood Red. Over the years, the kit's wheels and seats vanished. Thanks to Steve (Intmd8r) I have a set of wheels and tires that could be interesting on this one, going to require some suspension tweaking, but it should look cool when done. I have a set of seats coming from Clearly Scale, so those will look pretty good once in. Not going too nuts with detailing on this one. Just want to finally finish it and have a good looking curbside kit to put on the shelf.
  14. I wanted to make another fast build since my last one was a lot of fun and turned out great (Link to its U-G thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/123302-porsche-911-outlaw-8-hour-build/ ). This newest build took three days from start to finish, but the middle day became a resting day with no progress since work was very tough that day. I decided on the Tamiya Starcard Porsche 911 GT2, and at the start I was going to build it with the Starcard livery, but in the end I decided to dust some Tamiya TS19 Metallic Blue over the black plastic which the body is molded in. It turned out great; a very dark color with a lot of blue pearl and sparkles in it. Here's a few photos, enjoy!
  15. This has been a real labor of love. This has been a three year project. The kit is by Starter and is built box stock. The first sheet of decals exploded in the water. I looked for a year until I found a set on Ebay. Then after sitting I miss placed the interior . I found it in another kit. Then just forgot I had the kit in my stash until finding it on Friday afternoon. With Memorial Day just passed I thought it was fitting. My hats off to all you vets out there. Cheers!
  16. I was bored yesterday and decided to challenge myself by building a car in less than a day. My kit of choice was Revell's re-release of the Porsche 911 carrera 3.0 which I've built as an Outlaw. I already knew tires were completely wrong so I'd already dug out another set, but I also had to find another set of wheels because the originals were simply too badly molded... I also need to find another set of door handles due to the same reason but so far no good. Other than wheels and tires it's got a bit of lowering done to it, otherwise it's box stock. The body is painted with a light dusting of Tamiya solid black, and misc. details are painted using Humbrol paints and sharpies. I'm pretty satisfied with the result considering it only took eight hours from start to finish. Here are a few pics of the car together with my first Outlaw 911, enjoy!
  17. This is Tamiya's 911 GT2 Porsche in Gravity colors Porsche Pig Pink. Heat stained exhaust and added details like Hobby Design Bride seats with Edward harnesses and other small details.
  18. I started out with good ol' 1/24 model cars, and have gone through some major burn-out bouts. About 12 years ago I started looking into model railroad kits, and once I settled on N scale, which is 1/160, it was only natural I have a few vehicles! There isn't a huge selection of "kits" out there in that scale, unless you are into trucks, but I did do some pewter vehicles. The Crown Vic you see in the photo with the Checker taxi was a resin model, but the rest are all pewter. Alas, I sold most of them... I wish I had kept the silver 911 Cabriolet and "Mini Stank", the garbage truck. Please keep in mind these vehicles are roughly ONE INCH LONG (other than Mini Stank)
  19. This is the Tamiya Porsche 936 kit. The real-life Porsche 936 won Le Mans in 1976, 1977 and 1981. Curiously, Tamiya chose to kit the 1978 Martini livery version, which was not a winner. I am going to use aftermarket decals to depict the 1981 winner. This kit is so old, it still included a motor! Looks fairly simple, there is only rudimentary engine detail, lets see how it goes...
  20. Hi this is my 4th model the Revell 918 Spyder. I have used some scal carbon fibre and Plamoz wheels which was not from the Kit, Gravity and Zero colors for paint. I like the final result i am happy with it unfortunately it was rushed as i had a due date to finish but there arnt really many imperfections to be seen by the eye. any feed back is appreciated i may build another one of these in the future as a very enjoyable detailed model.
  21. this will be a slow build, I don't get much time any more. I started this a month or two ago, and a week or so ago, I came across a member selling the SMS Super Detail set and I jumped on it. I am using the SMS Super Detail turned parts, SMS PE set and the Hobby Design McLaren F1 GTR brake set, which uses the same brakes and hubs as the 911 GT1. The Hobby Design brakes are a lot bigger than the kit brakes, but still kit inside the wheel just fine. I don't know why HD only includes enough PE brake faces to do 2 rotors, so I decided to not use them and paint the rotors a carbon color. PE Brembo faces nice crisp detail I nipped off the molded in bleeder detail Made the crossover tube Added the .5mm brass nuts from Scale Hardware Not too difficult to make 1, but making 4 look the same is time consuming Mockup with the PE face that I didn't end up using I decided to go one step further and add RB Motion bleeders. Tiny Painted the calipers Brembo Gold from Gravity Colors, then diluted some Tamiya red acrylic to paint the Brembo letters Painted the hubs Alclad II Pale Gold. Now comes the fun part, adding all the PE bold heads Before & After A million years later Rotors were painted with Model Master Metalizer (I forget color) then gently rubbed with a dense cotton swab for contrast Before & after. Not a huge difference, but enough Looks great when done More to come
  22. I'm more or less finished with my Porsche 930 Outlaw now. Started life as a Monogram Porsche 911 Carrera which was built in 1976 by another Swedish model builder. I bought it, built but unpainted, and tore it down completely. And I remodeled the front and rear bumpers and I shaved part of the sides too. Interior has been heavily modified. The whole floor with seats molded into it was removed and a new floor was built. I used seats from a Tamiya Ferrari FXX, made a new handbrake, and used the steering wheel from a Tamiya Honda Accord JTCC. Before.. And after. The body was sprayed with Humbrol Silver 11. Rear lights and reflector panel replacement are all custom made. The finish is not top notch, but the guy driving the car, think of him as Magnus Walker and his 277, and I think you all know why!
  23. Good day guys. Today I finished 'spirit of America' which is a Porsche 956 raced in LeMans 1986 and listed third at last. I would like to say that on building models, sometime i really like to reject the old but crave for the new. Recently i bought some 1/12 big scale F-1 kits, they're really great and i just can't wait myself building them. So here is this 956, my all time favourite group C car, with a really nice decal, an flag of USA. I didn't do the engine..becasue i just put this car body on my old tamiya porsche 956's chassic. Tamiya's 956 is a good enough kit that i can easily remove the car body. So here she is: had to mention that the decals on the front window should be white withe black words 'joest racing' , but unluckly i messed with that decal with some glue..so i chose the 84' Newman 956 #8 to replace it for now. Maybe fix with homemade decals next time. this time i tried a little bit different tools called 'electroplating powder'. i used this powder on wheels and front lights and i think the result is good enough to me. To sum up, i still have another 6 porsche 956 waiting for me i really like this car. Such a legend. any comment welcomed and thank you guy for watching.:)
  24. Finally finished this one. It's the Tamiya kit and I bought it about 5 years ago for $5 on Ebay. Body parts had been partially glued together, but no painting done on it. Luckily, after I got it stripped (without breaking anything) I discovered that everything was there. Yellow isn't my fav Porsche colour, but I went with a combo near and dear to my heart. I spend many years working for the local Porsche dealership. After I transferred to sales, the first factory order I took was a 2000 Porsche 996 coupe. Speed Yellow with black leather, 18" chrome Turbo alloys, sport exhaust, manual transmission, navigation, sunroof delete. When the car arrived, all orange reflectors were replaced with clear pieces. So this is my version of that car. The holes in the front bumper are intentional. In my province, we don't require front plates, so the when the new cars arrive, they arrive with two holes in the front bumper for mounting the plate holder. I think I did a decent job on the interior, but I'm not happy with my paint. The black trim bugs me. Having said that, I'm comfortable enough with it to call it done. As for photography, I think I need to start wiping everything with microfibre cloths or something, as there's dust all over this thing that wasn't visible when I was taking pics. Anyway, there it is.
