Hi Guys (and lady's) - I'm looking to build a replica of my buddy's 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am - I have the Revell 'Smokey and the Bandit' edition Looking to see if anyone knows of a aftermarket company that makes a '76 nose for it? I think Reliable Resin did a conversion kit years ago but I can't find that one anywhere online! Help? Thank you - Tim

1970 Trans Am Rivals Last 2 builds of 2022 Revell 1970 Mustang Boss 302 built as the Bud Moore Trans Am race car. Doors and trunk opened, wheel arches bulged, engine rebuilt with scratch built induction, roll gage added, fuel cell and trunk detail added, R & M Minilite wheels, decals from 5 sources, and custom Tamiya paint and trim. AMT 1970 ½ full bumper Camaro Z28 built as Jim Hall Trans Am race car. Doors and trunk opened, wheel arches bulged, R & M Minilite wheels, engine rebuilt and under hood ram air tunnel added, roll gage added, fuel cell and trunk detail added, decals from Pattos Place from Australia, and rattle can refrigerator white paint.

My take on the '77 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit Resto-mod styled after Year One version. Mostly built out of the box with exception I added the round fog lights in the front bumper and removed the square ones in the lower air-intake. Added brass mesh in the side fender vents. Removed the molded in AC lines and made my own detail. Wheels are the kit Snowflakes inserted into Pegasus small aluminum sleeves. Trans Am and Bird decals are from Keith Marks, which are outstanding! Paint is all Duplicolor spray can with 4-polished clear coats, must say it's flawless smooth

Had fun with this new release from Revell of the 70 Firebird. Due to licensing this release does not include any Trans Am badging and I noted the blue decal set is much darker than the 1990 Monogram release that did include Trans Am decal badging I built this a a box stock kit, first time I've not "customized" a kit, however I did modify the ride-height and improved the fitment of the headlights. Overall, this kit was flawless as to zero-flash and everything fit perfectly, good job on this kit Revell

I thought I would share the WIP on a '79 T/A that I recently built. I am posting this WIP to help out anyone who is thinking of building this kit. Maybe it will help someone. This is the MPC kit that was popped in 2015. I really fell in love with the box art. Yup, I'm a sucker for box art, always have been and probably always will be...?. I have been around plenty long enough to know that what is on the box doesn't always match what is in the box...lol. This kit was a bit of a pig. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Let's take a look. What I started with. The ubiquitous spoon test. In the end, I got carried away and put too many coats on the body and it was a little darker than I wanted. A picture of the beautiful decals. They really are nice! It goes downhill from here...lol. Here is how the bumpers and spoiler are attached to the sprue. Why?!?! Here is an example of what you will find in the kit. At least this is what I had in mine. I started work on the body. I attached the front and rear bumpers. They did not fit. Not. At. All. I compromise a little on the fit and still had to add shims to fill in the massive gaps. Pictures are from both sides of the rear end.

I'm back! At least for a few posts. So, a quick update on my situation: I have not bought a home yet, but I have moved out of my old place and into a cheaper place that's just as nice. I'm still looking into a home and talking things over with a lender. I didn't want to start any builds until I moved into a more permanent home, but they've been piling up and it's going to take awhile to get them all built. So, I decided to build a few and save the boxes to make sure they don't get damaged when i do finally move. So...........here is my first of the new year. It's a 1971 Trans Am based on the Revell model of a 1970. It's a very nice model and I highly recommend it. Its been a busy summer and I haven't gotten as much time at the bench as I'd like. I finally finished one, as well as the minibike (which was much tougher than the car!). Didn't want to go with the cliche` black and gold, the decal sheet had a blue bird so that's the way I went. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

A few months ago at one of the local mtgs, a member was selling some kits and aftermarket decal sheets cheap. Bought some deals and the decals were mostly Slixx drag car decals and 80s-90s era sheets from kits like monogram drag cars and some 90s AMT, but one he had that struck me was a Trans Am Collectors Edition decal sheet (in a baggie marked 2002 Firebird, no manufacturer name) that appeared to fit the Revell 98 Firebird, and it was only a buck so I bought it. Since I had a 2005 Revell reissue of the 98 Firebird on hand and these decals, I looked up photos of the 1:1s to get an idea of what the decals were for and that would give me a spark for a quick fun future project (after dealing with all the work on a incomplete Monogram 41 Lincoln which I also plan to post here). Paint is Rustoluem Yellow (close enough match for the 1:1 sun yellow) and Colorplace black for the roof, all cleared with future. Decals were ok-ish at best, a bit thin and transparent (the silver stripes on the 1:1s are kinda a transparent darkish color here thou) but they did the job well, and I wasn't gonna sweat this being factory stock since I had a plans to do light custom work anyway. Part of the ram air intake had a bit of a short shot so that was cut off and plastic tubing painted silver was used to as an intake pipe to connect to what wasn't half molded. The stock wheels were too small so the custom wheels were used and the toy-ish chrome backings were painted black with rotor decals from another kit to livin it up. The 98 had a single exhaust for some odd reason so that piece was swapped from a snap-tite '93 a friend of mine traded me for another 98 I had that he wanted (he's in love with 4th gen F-bodies and wants to try to build one of these too since I bought the decals first and wonders who originally made them). Apologies if a few of the pics came out kinda blurry, but I didn't notice them on my phones screen (OLEDs must have some kind of magic that hides imperfections that show on normal HDTVs).

Monogram didn't specify a model year for its 1/24 scale Trans AM Pontiac kit, but I think their was intent was that it could be built as either a '77 or '78, depending upon which hood bird decal the builder chose to apply. Here's a look at the original issue, kit number 2247, from 1979, courtesy of various eBay listings: I never realized two hood birds were included until just now, but it does appear both '77 and '78 style birds are included: But wait!, there was also a companion Trans Am Street Machine kit, number 2258, also released in 1979, which featured a custom nose piece, hood, six-spoke wheels, bucket seats, turbocharged induction system, and "Turbochief" decals: The stock version has been reissued a few times since 1979, and now exists as a 3'n1 kit, shown below in the "Warbird" box: The Street Machine version was only issued once, and never seen again... not necessarily a bad thing.

Not a bad kit at all. Very easy to build, bit of a fit issue with the shaker hood though. Over all a very good model. A while back I bought a built 1973 Firebird from Ebay. I have been looking for one for a long time and could not find any that were in my price range so I decided to do a rebuild of this one. Obviously it was built a LONG time ago. I stripped paint with oven cleaner and started fixing the body. I decided I wanted all the spoilers on it so I used the ones in the newly released '79 T/A kit. I always liked this car because of the lack of a front bumper (STYLE) and while doing the body work I decided to get rid of the rear bumper also. So I gave it a roll pan. I had to sand out alot of glue on the body, especially on the hood intakes. It seemed like I would never finish the sanding process. I found myself sanding too much in some areas and had to fill those along with getting rid of the bumps and swirl marks. Primed and sanded and primed and sanded and primed and sanded!!!! FINALLY got some paint on this beast!!!!! I put some Inca Gold on it for and underlying base color. This is NOT the final color but just another step. I would like to have this and my '74T/A completed before the fall Detroit Area Modelers Show because it is a 50th Anniversary for Camaro and T/A's theme.I hope you all enjoy, thanks for letting me be a part of the group!! Well since I got the camaro finished I figured I might as well get started on the next one . This build will be using the match racer firebird. Id like to put more detail into this one than the last so ill be trying some new things. I got the body painted to see how I liked the color and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Hello there! Happy to be making my first contribution to this site. I've been building models since I was 8 years old with my dad and have been hooked ever since. But over the past few years life has come first and my hobby has taken a back seat but over the past year I've got back into it full swing and have also brought my girlfriend into the hobby as well! She loves it and is an amazing painter. She usually paints and I glue and assemble. It's great to have something we both love and can do together. This is her '78 T/A dream car that she wants to build one day just like this. Am I a lucky guy or what!? lol This was her vission she painted all the pieces and I assembled she's amazing at what she does this was only her 2nd model!

This is a race car restoration project I've worked on over the last year and a half. It's a 67 mustang which was one of about 25 built by Shelby for the SCCA Trans Am race series. Like the GT350s Shelby built for the SCCA B/Production class, this had all the Shelby tricks. In 67 the Shelby team used 4 of these cars to win the Championship. The rest of the cars were sold to customers for racing. Equipped with a race prepped dual quad hi-po 289 engine, Top-loader 4-speed trans, relocated upper a-arm mounts, Monte Carlo bar, bigger disc brakes on the front from a Galaxie Wagon, Drive shaft retainer strap to keep it from falling if a u-joint failed, 9" rear axle with the customer's choice of gear ratios and Galaxie Wagon rear brakes with racing shoes, racing oversize wheel studs and nuts, an SCCA-approved roll bar, "Over-Rider" Traction Bars from the top of the axle into the interior, stripped interior with 1 fiberglass racing bucket seat and racing harness, special racing gas tank with dual electric fuel pumps with the battery in the trunk, rear fire wall, no heater or even fan, American Racing magnesium Torque Thrust D Wheels, Goodyear racing tires, racing headers and straight dump pipes ending in front of the rear tires, front license plate recess cut out for an oil cooler, window retainer straps, hood pins, brake cooling ducts, racing springs, Koni double-adjustable racing shocks, fire extinguisher, aluminum plates where the headlights go, racing wire harness, Tach and Oil Pressure gauges set in an aluminum dash insert, No speedo, aluminum switch box on the center tunnel behind the shifter, etc. They left Shelby's Culver City California factory truly ready to race except for numbers and fuel. The car is owned again by its original owner Fred Sutherland. He had bought it new from Shelby for about $4,000. It's now worth in the neighborhood of 100x that. He won some races and set some lap records with it. While working on the car, I ran across a race program from an SCCA race at Willow Springs in 1969. In the back there is a list of lap records for the track. For the A/ Sedan Class which is the over 2-liter class for Trans Am cars, Fred held the lap record with this car. That is in spite of the fact that the Shelby team and many others used this track for practice. Just before ordering this car, Fred had won the regional Championship for B/Production with his 289 Cobra. The engine was rebuilt by Dave Dralle who successfully raced Cobras in the 60s and is considered still to be one of the best with Cobras and Mustangs. It dynoed at 487hp, which is about 17hp more than the Bud Moore Mustang Boss 302s achieved in their Championship year of 1970. This was a full rotisserie rebuild. The car had wound up in the south parked outdoors with some serious rust before being re-acquired by Fred for us to restore. The 3rd photo is from the 1st test session at Willow Springs with John Morton driving.

This is a Project, I'm working on and on. I think, it started with the built of the latest Trans Am (MJ 2002). I saw one on ebay.com in red. It looked so incredible hot that I built my kit of Revell/Monogram the same way. Then the idea was born. One reason. The other reason is, that I own a 1988 Firebird Formula - my beast. I fulfilled a dream to have one in 2000. Sadly it is nowadays to expensive to drive such a piece of GMs history in Germany. The vehicle taxes are so high that I had to overthink if it's worth to pay ~600 Euros vehicle tax a year only for maybe 1000 km driving fun. Insurance not included. So I sadly de-registered the Pontiac 7 years ago and parked it in my garage. Nevertheless I love the car. I love it to "visit" it in the garage and let it idle from time to time. My goal is to register it again in a couple of years. In 2019 would be an option because the Pontiac turns 30 and it's a historical car by law. Vehicle tax will be less then half and insurance definitely cheaper as today Back to my little project. I wrote to build some Firebirds / Trans Ams of all generations on my to-do-list. I started to restore some kits or built some new. I'll show you here what I've reached so far. This thread isn't done already. When I'll have built another red Pontiac, I'll post it here. Hello. Have been working on this some week now,i did not make a WIP on it,i have this irrational fear Photobucket will black out my pics if i upload to much lol. Revell 1:24,it does have some fit issues but i did my best,most problematic was the front end lower part and rear spoiler. At first i wanted to make a Brewster Green original car,but i found a good 1:25 MPC resto object i will attempt to do stock. So this one got the engine,trans,brakes,suspension and wheels upgrade to be more street machine or pro touring. The body is completely stock,i like it this way,most muscle cars this era looks great only getting a little closer to the ground and some wheels,stock is sweet to. Enough bla bla. here are some pictures. Hope you like it and feedback is welcome,good or bad.

Hello. Is there made any resin kit`s for 70-73 Pontiac Trans Am,Formula,Esprit or Firebird ? I could be blind but it seem to be a rare model out there. Looking for the model with this bonnet/hood.

Hello I have always wanted to build a model of a 78 Trans Am. The car will be Gold with Probably a Tan interior, The kit is pretty crude, Engine parts dont even want to fit properly, The stock rims in this kit are horrible, So i may use a different set, Thanks for looking. Thanks for looking.
