MPC Petty Roadrunner
Rodent posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)Two questions: 1. Has anyone tried to mate (can you say this on the forum?) an old MPC Petty Roadrunner body with a Salvino's Charger frame, engine, etc? We all know that the original MPC stuff wasn't that great. 2. Does anybody make reproduction decals for said Petty Roadrunner? Thanks!
1972 Chevelle SS 454 (Star Spangled Blue Lacquer)
Bills72sj posted a topic in Model CarsThis was an open box purchase from a friend who wanted me to build a replica of the 1:1 car he is building. Unfortunately this kit was not appropriate for his build. So instead I built it for me. It is Testors Star Spangled Blue and has been top coated with Testors Wet look clear. I have only used rattle cans and this is the best paint job I have EVER done. The silver SS stripes are from Keith Marks. The rear window took some fine sanding and Future clear to remove the glue smears. The engine is a BBC mixed and matched with parts box pieces. The side emblems are photo etch and the wheels and tires are parts box pieces. (I wish I had more) Be advised the grille is NOT for ANY year Chevelle. It looks like is was adapted from a Monte Carlo. This is definitely one of my top 3 builds (so far).
Just finished this project that was mothballed since 2008, until about two weeks ago. Revell Rough Rider kit from 1972 with an Imai Wild Chopper girder front end. House of Kolor Kandy Gold over a Duplicolor gold base. Taillight is from a 1/25 Lindberg ‘34 Ford pickup and the headlight is from a 1/25 Revell ‘32 coupe. Very fun, but challenging, build. On to the next… Thanks fer lookin’ In-progress photos here: https://public.fotki.com/fivets/my-model-motorcycles/revell-112-rough-ri/
1972 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe Custom Cabriolet
Jeffcad posted a topic in Model CarsHi Guys, Sharing with you the first "light" restoration/conversion of the year. I had this Jo-Han's 1972 Cadillac Promo in decent body condition but the paint had some scratches, especially on the roof. After some paint clean-up, I decided to build it with an option that Cadillac was offering that year, the Custom Cabriolet edition, a half padded vinyl roof option on Eldorado models, with curved edges wrapped around the B pillar's side base. In comparison, the "regular" Eldorado Coupes had the entire roof covered with vinyl, with straight edges on the B pillar. I have detailed the interior with a new color, carpeting, "wood-ich" door panels, dashboard, etc. For the exterior, Bare Metal foil everywhere of course, some X-tra thin white decals on hood, new Cadillac emblem, front and rear black rubber bumper stops were added, new larger white walls, specific and accurate hubcaps for the model-year. ( In fact, 1972 Jo-Han's Cadillac promos were offered with the 71's Cadillac hubcaps, which are different from 1972 ). This 8.2L V8 baby needs some work again on chromes and I am still trying to find a source for int/ext. mirrors though... Anyway, not a mind blowing conversion here but at least some inconditional love for one of my favorite Cadillac model ever. Hope you'll like it.
1972 Dodge Challenger 440-6 (one of none)
Bills72sj posted a topic in Model CarsThis started as a Lindberg 1972 Challenger kit. The overall lines of the car are not too bad but, unfortunately it has some cartoonish qualities which needed to be addressed. To start with, the molded in side scallops are of the wrong size and finger count to work with factory graphics. So...I had to sand them off since they could not be reworked. Second the imitation shaker hood and scoop were all wrong. In its place I sourced a 440-6 pack scoop from a Dodge 440. It covered the hole just right. The engine is a 440-6 pack from my parts box. The front grille needed some filing to get to fit properly and some BMF to look close to correct. The interior turned out alright in contrasting black and white. Overall the hood gave me the most trouble. Starting with an annoying warp, I progressively made things worse before they got as good as it is. Four repaints and replacement of the whole rear edge is what it took. I tried some textured paint to dress up the tail panel but it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. One thing I did get right were the wheels and tires. I also NAILED the stance. I love the color as I was shooting for Mopar B5 blue metallic.
MPC Mustang FC 72 (HOTROD MAGAZINE) this was my 1st detailed build & contest entree. I installed every aftermarket plumbing, Aluminum Billet pulleys, A/N color coded fittings, Wrinkle Wall Slicks, even added the Chrome Valve Stems on it...for a EXTREMELY SIMPLE "BOX STOCK" build that would only take most beginners a few days to complete, took me about 350+ hours...(and I still wished I had 25-30 more to do everything that was in my head.. I had nothing but FUN all the way through.....
Hard_2_Handle_454 posted a topic in Model CarsTalk about polishing a turd. My dad got me this for Christmas and, if anyone knows me, I like stock vehicles. The Lindberg kit here is not stock. I ordered a Hart's Parts resin hood and got the stripes from eBay. I came out descent, but this kit is a nightmare of issues. The chassis is smaller than the body! I had to apply the glue and hold the body on the chassis for an hour to get it to stay on! The tail lights look horrible, the hood was glued shut because the engine wasn't stock, and I hate that there were no side mirrors. My stripes were also the wrong scale and I had to trim them. The sides are also wrong which caused an issue with the stripes as well. SAM_0447 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0448 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr SAM_0449 by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
