Scale I Build

Found 7 results

  1. Built this one a while back. I had left the grille all chrome, and the headlight bezels also in chrome. The other day I decided to give those parts the "stock" treatment, and paint them body color, even tough the body color was not available by the book on a '40 Ford V8 (non Deluxe). Guess I ended with a sleeper.
  2. greetings everyone, ...some time since I have built a piece and posted one here. finished this today from the new amt issue 40 ford coupe kit. about 3 -4 weeks working slowly, and presto...finally its at least presentable. paint is Tamiya orange spray can, followed by Tamiya spray pearl clear. decals are a mix of this and that,...pretty much a box build,..but removed the stock exhaust and re plated the floor. scratch built traction masters, woody cal custom steering wheel, drivers helmet...I think that's about it. anyhow, maybe I will start another kit this week too. not a great build, but all this old bird can muster up these days. thanks for looking. the ace.........
  3. Amt "40 Ford has been around since the early sixties. It has a few different versions and a bunch of reissues. The Revell "40 on the other hand is relatively new. It certainly has fewer issues with fit and flash and a lot more detail. So which one do YOU prefer, and why ?
  4. Well, here's my first model in 2017, a Revell 40 Ford pickup built OOB. The kit had some fit issues - the opening doors were a problem, as expected. I finally glued the passenger door shut and drilled holes in the driver's door hinges and inserted metal pins so it opens without falling off. Neither of the doors fit well, though. The hood has gaps all around in spite of several rounds of test fitting. I guess dimensions change after applying glue! Paint is Krylon satin olive with Testors pearl clear over it. The pearl gave it a too silvery look, but I can live with it. Apple red in the interior and the wheels for something different. All in all, not a bad kit, but it was more tedious to build than I expected. My build could be better, but I like it. Comments are always welcome!
  5. Finished it here it is sporting my high school's logo.
  6. I built this car about a year and a half ago, but it's never been an MCM WIP, or shown in the Under Glass section. A couple of MCM regulars asked me if I had a few more pictures to share, so I thought that a mini WIP would provide them with some added pics and info on the car. So, to begin, I started with Revell's excellent 1:25th 40 Ford kit. The first order of business was to give it a hair cut. I sliced some Tamiya 6mm tape in half to create some ~3mm strips. These were used to remove a consistent scale 3" from the roof pillars. After adding some length back into the roof panel, it looked like the fit was close enough to continue.Notice how the B pillars were removed just below the drip rail in a "T" section. This will allow the pillar to be aligned with the lower pillar in the fore-aft direction. Still no putty yet. At this point the plastic used to lengthen the roof panel was filed down and primed. The roof was then glued in place with some liquid styrene cement. Considering I haven't reached to putty stage yet, the roof was looking pretty good. Still no putty yet. A layer of sheet styrene was added at the C pillar to provide enough material to level the roof panel with the stub on the body.
